Silchar, May 19 : Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, corona curfew and heavy pre-monsoon downpour, tributes were paid on Wednesday to the 11 people who died in police firing on May 19, 1961 in Silchar during the Bengali language agitation.
Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli, Lok Sabha Member Rajdeep Roy, newly elected BJP MLA Dipayan Chakraborty led the main event at the Silchar railway station in Tarapur. A very limited number of writers, singers, artists from all the three districts of Barak Valley Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi gathered at the railway station and paid their tributes.

Guwahati, April 20 : Over 66 per cent of the 2,532 voters on Tuesday cast their votes in the re-polling in four polling stations in three assembly constituencies in southern Assam, officials said.
Election officials said that there is no untoward incident reported from any of the polling stations under Cachar, Karimganj and Dima Hasao districts. There were certain irregularities were found in these four polling stations, where normal balloting were held in the second phase of Assam assembly polling on April 1, forcing the poll panel to conduct re-polling.

Guwahati: The Election Commission (EC) has ordered re-polling in four polling stations in southern Assam, where normal balloting was held in the second phase of polling on April 1, officials said on Saturday (March 10).
The EC Secretary Ajay Kumar Verma wrote a letter to the Assam Chief Electoral Officer Nitin Khade and said that considering all the reports and other circumstances, the EC has ordered re-polling in four polling stations on April 20, news agency IANS reported.
