High School Sports: 2 Wildcats named Academic All-state (3/17/21)

Wednesday, March 17, 2021 Cassville High School seniors Dylan Berndt and Zane Mebruer have been named Soccer Academic All-State. This award is the highest academic honor for soccer players in the state of Missouri. The Missouri Soccer Academic Team is a highly select group of seniors from all four classes who have excelled both on the field and in the classroom during their high school careers. This year, 37 players made the team and had an academic score of 120 or higher which corresponds to an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and an ACT score of 30. Cassville is one of two schools in the state, Barstow being the other, with selections on the last five Academic All-state teams. Recipients from Cassville include: 2018 boys, Andrew Berndt; 2019 girls, Kamryn Jaques; 2019 boys, Eli Herrin; 2020 girls, Alexis Mann; 2020 boys, Dylan Berndt and Zane Mebruer. Berndt, left, is pictured with Head Soccer Coach Jake Forste, middle, and Mebruer. Local News: 2 Cassville principals retire (1/27/21)

Weaver, Barton leaving district at end of June Two Cassville school buildings will be under new leadership next school year, as Eunice Thomas Elementary Principal Catherine Weaver and Cassville Middle School Principal Jimmie Barton are both retiring. Richard Asbill, Cassville superintendent, said Weaver has served 27 years at the district, 22 as elementary principal, and Barton has been principal at the middle school for 7 years. “Catherine announced her retirement on Jan. 1, and we posted for the job internally and on the state job posting list,” he said. “We had several internal and external applicants and started the interview process, then moved to top candidates and worked on developing a recommendation to the board, which we made on Thursday.”

Local News: Treasurer Fitzpatrick sworn in for 4-year term (1/13/21)

Wednesday, January 13, 2021   During Monday’s inauguration at the Missouri State Capitol, Missouri State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick was sworn-in for a four-year term by Barry County Associate Judge Johnnie Cox. The Treasurer was elected November 3 with more votes than any treasurer in Missouri history. “I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving as Missouri’s Treasurer,” Fitzpatrick said. “As a husband and father, a business owner, and now as State Treasurer, I value fiscal responsibility. Over the past two years, I have worked to increase government transparency, to support small businesses, and to help Missouri families save for the future. 2020 was certainly a challenging year, but I am hopeful for Missouri’s future and I look forward to continuing this important work to ensure that all Missourians are able to thrive.”
