SALT LAKE CITY â Governor Spencer Cox has terminated a mask mandate for state facilities, effective Saturday.
In a memo sent to state agencies obtained by FOX 13, the governor s chief of staff announced they would end the mask mandate for places like Capitol Hill, Driver License Division offices and state-run liquor stores. It is in light of the recent CDC guidance on masks for fully vaccinated individuals. Nevertheless, until the Utah Department of Health determines that the COVID-19 pandemic has abated, employees may continue to wear masks. We also continue to strongly encourage the following:
First lady Jill Biden seemed right at home Wednesday interacting with students and praising teachers at a middle school on the west side of Salt Lake City.

Utah has reached the COVID-19 pandemic “endgame.”
The state crossed the threshold in the three metrics outlined in HB294, also known as the pandemic “endgame” bill, Tuesday afternoon, according to Utah Department of Health officials.
That means that most state and local health orders are ending. The law passed by the Legislature in March set the end of those health orders on the day that Utah’s 14-day case rate is less than 191 per 100,000 people, the seven-day average of COVID-19 intensive care unit usage is under 15%, and 1,633,000 prime doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been allocated to the state.

The bill required restrictions to be lifted once the state reached three benchmarks:
A two-week coronavirus case rate of less than 191 per 100,000 people
Less than 15% of intensive care unit beds be occupied by COVID-19 patients over a seven-day average
1,633,000 prime doses of the COVID-19 vaccine be allocated to the state
Utah s public health orders terminated under COVID-19 âendgameâ law
Exceptions remain in place across the state
