It s official. Malaysia s Nicol David has been named the greatest athlete of all time.
According to an online poll run by The International World Games Association (IWGA), the legendary squash player ran away with the title after scoring 318,943 votes – beating out runners-up Irish tug-of-war athlete James Kehoe and and Ukrainian powerlifter Larysa Solovlova in second and third respectively. Nicol David is an inspirational athlete, and a fine role model for younger athletes. The race was incredible, and it was good to see how athletes got support not only from their own sport, but also from their country and the highest sports authorities there, said IWGA President José Perurena. Sports really unite people in a special way. This vote was a celebration of that.”

LONDON (Reuters) - She was never given the chance to shine on an Olympic stage, but squash superstar Nicol David may derive some compensation from being named the World Games Greatest Athlete of All Time.
Winning the accolade on Monday with almost three times as many votes as the runner-up, the Malaysian said she hoped the award would help to boost the profile of a sport seemingly unloved in key quarters.
