Donato s Saratoga selections for Wednesday, July 28, 2021

Donato’s Saratoga selections for Wednesday, July 28, 2021 | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Race fans are being treated to a Grade II race Wednesday with a field of nine entered for the Honorable Miss Handicap, run over six furlongs on the Main Track. The eighth race will be highlighted by Bell’s the One (7-5), who looks to secure her fifth win in five tries at this distance. The Neil Pessin-trainee has been in Grade I company for a full year, with the exception of her last race, the ungraded Rolexana Overnight Stakes on June 19. She ran well to secure the win that day under longtime jockey Corey Lanerie, who gets the mount again. A consistent runner, Bell’s the One should be counted on to stay off the pace until the last moment. So long as she is not boxed in late, she should be expected to be challenging in the stretch.

Jim Dandy will mark first start for Risk Taking since Preakness dud | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 SARATOGA SPRINGS In the early spring, trainer Chad Brown had two Klaravich Stables colts pointing toward the Triple Crown trail. They both wound up in the Grade II Wood Memorial on April 3, then the Preakness on May 15, and there they were together again on Saturday, breezing four furlongs side-by-side on the main track at Saratoga Race Course. Only one is ready to get back to the races for the first time since the Preakness, though, and that’s Risk Taking, who will run in the Grade II Jim Dandy on Saturday looking to regain the form he showed in winning the Grade III Withers in February.

Another Grade 1 winner for American Pharoah as $475,000 buy strikes in Japan | Bloodstock News

11:20AM, FEB 21 2021 American Pharoah notched his third top-flight winner, and first on dirt, when his son Cafe Pharoah claimed the Grade 1 February Stakes at Tokyo on Sunday. The US-bred four-year-old was adding to his two Grade 3 victories, having won the Unicorn Stakes and the Sirius Stakes last year. Jockey Christophe Lemaire tracked the leaders aboard the powerfully-built bay, and having hit the front entering the final furlong, Cafe Pharoah ran on strongly to deny the fast-finishing Air Spinel, a son of King Kamehameha, by three-quarters of a length. His condition was super and I had confidence already in the paddock, said Lemaire. We decided to use cheekpieces hoping for a more aggressive performance. His start was good, we were positioned well and he responded beautifully. The colt has such high potential. I had no doubt that he could land a Grade 1 win if he gave his best. I’m happy that it all worked out today.
