Kelly elementary school, the latest school shut down because of mold. Maintenance crews still bringing in heavy equipment to clean up the potentially dangerous conditions that shut down john b. Kelly elementary. Mold was found in ten classrooms and a dozen other locations in the building the School Closed at least until monday. The school is dirty. The school is dirty. Reporter marquetta paisly went to this school as kid but she pulled her children out of kelly complaints of mold was one reason why. I was told that i would have to send him to john b. Kelly because this was our neighbor school. I refused. I would home school before my son goes to john b. Kelly. Reporter its that bad in there. Its that bad. Reporter kelly is the fourth area school this week where mold was found inside. The libraries at Penn State Berks county and Cheltenham High School were also shut down. Earlier in the week, mold closed holly glenn elementary in monroe township, new jersey. When i hear mold in the classroom i get scared. Should i be . John, with the university of Pennsylvania Hospital says recent wet, warm and humid weather combined with aging facilities are a perfect recipe for mold. He actually says most children are tolerant but longer term exposure and those with respiratory problems could be at risk. Coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, sneezing, nasal congestion. Reporter School District of philadelphia says engineers check every school for mold twice a year. In this case no students or teachers reported to be sick. Iain has had four operations since that night while he continues to improve with physical therapy, his parents know hell never be same. He doesnt see properly. His hand is in a fist. He hasnt used his left hand in two years. He walks awkwardly. He has a lot of trouble with his foot walking properly. I worry about his future. How hes going to be able to take care of himself. Hes had to start his life all over again a new life a different life, one that i wasnt expecting for him. Now workers spent this day trying to remediate that polled.
