And while that figure climbed nearly a third for boys, they were already at a higher risk. So, as elementary school, she first tried to take her life. She was in a new school. She didnt talk very much. She was pick on by the other student. They called her names. They smack her books out of her hands. Sadly the bullying continued through junior high school. And she tried taking her life. Two more times. But were so glad to say that she failed. Now she is here to tell her story. And she is abut full woman trying to help other now. So, now 17, right . Youre saying we cant let, you know there is conversation about teens what theyre going through and suicide rate, cant let that fade. You cant let that fade. Do you think you look at the images on tv, you want to be like yes. And social media . Yes, thats the case, yes. So what was it for that you helped you realize, okay, wait, i shouldnt be thinking like this, i shouldnt be feeling this, was it with your mother . Your mother first recognized what was happening, right . No, not at first. I kept it to myself. I felt like i could hands it will myself. So i didnt really tell my mom about it. Always just keep myself in my room, never really talk like that, like i felt comfortable being by myself, being in my room, doing what i with a doing. So mom, did it ever cross your minds that she was in her room so upset, depressed, miserable, that she would end her life . , no not really. I knew she was going through something, but i didnt know it was that in depth. What did you try to do . I used to tell her to come out of her room, meet new people, socialize, and she would be like i dont want to meet new people. People are mean. And im like what you mean . And she was like people are just so cruel. And i just want to be by myself. I would rather be in my room . Right. Well, doctor, why is it going up . What kind of parent what can a parent do when the kids are in the room . What are the warnings signs i need to step in and help my child . Absolutely. There is no one answer why it is going, she said one thing, social media, kind of lower self esteem, trying to be like everybody else, fomo, fear every missing out, teens have all the time. The economic down turn, that occurred, still affecting so many families, so much financial stress, in the household, and everything. And also, unfortunately, there is a lot more, more effective ways, with the increase in opioid addiction, and stronger medications, that that can take peoples lives, as well. Some of the ways to casino every get it early on is if your childs kind of decreasing it their grades, or being more isolated, staying in their room more than usual, being more irritable. Theyll come out of the room, mom and dad, leave me alone. Or what kind of questions or what do you say to them to get them to open up really see like natasha was saying she didnt realize how serious it was. Unfortunately it does have to start much earlier in my opinion, where parents, you know, im parent, too, four kids, and it is one of the most difficult if somebody is watching, their kid is isolated in their room tonight.
