What they found was there was a genetic similarity, between that bacteria in the armadillos and some of the people who acquired the disease never left the country. So there was a handful of people, 30 people, they were looking at south east United States and they found this potential link. So the thought was could they have a acquired the leopardcy from the armadillo or we just dont know. Just recently we found in the state of florida we have ten cases per year. We have nine cases this year. I talk to people at the health department. They said they felt mess of those cases if not all of those cases were imported because it takes two to ten years, to see symptoms. But now, the state of florida is now admitting that some cases, somewhere and they are in the giving us a number, may have matched that genetic fingerprint in the bacteria that they find in armadillos. What does this all mean . They keep saying we dont know but there could that be transmission but i wouldnt panic because, we dont know full extent of it. One thing we dent want people to do is go around exterminating armadillos because chance of getting this, most of us, wont even be susceptible only 5 percent of the population is even susceptible to get it. It is not as bad as people think. I visited a leopard colony when we had one in louisiana and it is really just people think these horrible thoughts of older times.
