This morning and Winter Weather advisories and warnings are already in effect across the area. We have Live Team Coverage this morning of our first snow of the winter season. Tisha lewis is tracking the Road Conditions but first lets head over to gary for an update on todays winterlike forecast. Gary i know we got a snapshot of what could possibly come. Whats the latest this morning as you look at those models. I have a snapshot of it. I drove through North Carolina yesterday in like 3inches of snow and everybody was freaking out. Trust me, they do not handle snow well down there. Its coming in our direction. You know, annie that some places in northern georgia have received close to a foot of snow. Its unbelievable. I was watching some of the coverage from woodstock, georgia. I mean, when is the last time they saw snow down there . I feel for them, too, because obviously first snow for us, that was not forecast down there at all and part of what and the reason im talking about what happened down south, not only because i but this storm has just been overperforming and it has been very wet, its been very white down south as well with all the snow piling up. So, its been an overperformer so any time this happens, when you get snow in houston and you get snow in baton rouge and up into northern georgia and that much of it you know theres the potential problem for us, all right. All right, heres the deal. Its saturday, okay. Lets all enjoy this. The first snow of the season, all right. Its so nice. Snow is beginning to move in now. It is delayed. Perhaps you heard maybe we were thinking that snow would start maybe between 9 p. M. And midnight last night. Thats changed just a little bit. Once the snow gets in and really over the next couple of hours i think its going to start to fill in with light snow across the area. Periods of snow all day long. Accumulations right now i havent changed this. Even though weve started a little bit later, i still want to be cautious because, again, i think there is a chance that this storm in some sense could us in spots. So, i think an overall two to four across the metro. Thats even back to the west as well, all right, and for the metro for the south and southeast, over east of i95, saint marys has already picked up parts of Saint Marys County have already picked up about 3inches of snow so its not going to be much more for them to get up to six, seven, 8inches in places there. The heightest totals will be east and southeast and this will start to taper off by later on this evening. I think by 7, 8 oclock most of us will start to lose the snow out there. All right, heres the Winter Weather advisories and the Winter Weather warnings. They pushed the Winter Weather advisories back farther to the north and west. Frederick youre completely in it now. This does not include Washington County for hagerstown or martinsburg or even down towards winchester right now. Down in the pink that includes Southern Maryland, calvert county, calvert Saint Marys County, lets see, Charles Winter storm warning. You can could get six or more inches of snow before its all said and done down there. Speaking of how much snow well get ill show that you snow forecast in a few minutes or so s right now back over to annie. Gary thank you. We continue our Team Coverage right now. Lets head over to our fox5s tisha lewis who is live on her way to Fairfax County with a closer look at the Road Conditions this morning and tisha, so of course, theres no snow right now but once it starts falling it could be a hindrance to travel so good morning to you. What are you seeing out there . Reporter well, good morning to you, annie. Good morning to everyone at home. Weve been hearing so much about this snow that we are eagerly awaiting and anticipating it but so far so good. The roads are clear for the most part. Thats because thankfully theyve been pretreated so that when it does all happen it should make for a safe travel on the roadways and i want you to take a look at what im seeing. This is our view. Right now we are on the dulles toll road, 267. We are headed to the virginia to speak with them about the plan that they have in place and what is ahead. Now, we do know that vdot is pretreating the roads where they see appropriate. We have passed from our trip from d. C. To here headed towards chantilly several clusters of snowplow trucks that are just kind of on standby just in case and standby for when everything does happen. If you take a very, very close look, you can see very little flurries, obviously not anything major just yet, but it looks like it is starting or will be starting very, very shortly. The roadways for the most part are clear. What we can see is that, especially in virginia, you can kind of see some faint white lines on the roadways. Those are roads that have been treated. Now, again, vdot says that theyre prepa going to get on the road during this weather event obviously to use caution. We did have a chance to catch up with some folks and heres what they had to say. The older you get the more snow is an inconvenience more than an actual fun thing. So, im more at the age of i just dont like it any. I like it. Honestly i was hoping that it would have been after christmas but its pretty. Reporter all right, so back out here live again, we are headed to the Virginia Department of transportation headquarters in chantilly to chat with them about their plan ahead as we get further into the morning and as snow is anticipated to come. One thing thats important that they wanted to make sure that we share is that if you do see these big snowplow trucks with flashing lights, make sure you give them the right of way, make sure you pull over so that they can safely navigate and maneuver their way on the roadways. Is that one behind us . Oh, okay, i thought i saw some flashing lights but be that as it may, they are out here and they are ready roadways and make sure that everywhere is pretreated and that it is safe travels for everyone. Annie, back to you. Good advice. Thank you so much, tisha. Well check back in with you in a bit. Meanwhile people down south gary mentioned this got their own dusting of Winter Weather yesterday. Reporter across Southern California the race is on to knock down as many hot spots as possible before the winds continues through sunday. In northern San Diego County adam housely, fox news. All right, time now is 7 14. Heres a live look right now of Southern Maryland. This is specifically around route u. S. 50. Heres a beautiful its like a little dusting, gary, a Winter Wonderland. Yeah, a lot of grassy areas and rooftops down there. Thats the way it looked in big chunk of North Carolina yesterday as i was coming through there. Let lets have fun lets say, okay, all you guys down in Southern Maryland ive had one report down there of about two and a half inches for hollywood. Lets just say this. Tweet me your totals if youre in Southern Maryland at gary fox5 d. C. Send pictures, all that good stuff, , let me see, fox5 snow day. Yes. Got it. Its going to be a fun snow day. Nobody not everybody is going to work, so you dont have to worry about that. Kids dont have school so it will be one of those days. Once the snow gets here, okay, its a little bit delayed. Theres a lot of reasons for why this is still going to fill in. Were looking at radar right now. You get an idea. Nothing going on in the city. There could be a flurry or two but you see farther down to the south and the west and then back over for Southern Marylands getting the snow right now. Theres been a lil little bit a myself from time to time. We have a couple little gun bands moving through early this morning but those have backed off a little bit and again were still watching this coming up from the southwest to the northeast and ill extend this picture a little bit. Theres something going on. So, see this band right here coming down out of georgia. Again, theyre still getting snow down here for most of central and northern sections of georgia, up through atlanta, again, a very snowy saturday morning. Up through western parts of North Carolina, coming into virginia, West Virginia okay, so, this band right here, all right, theres a lot of lifting going on in the atmosphere right through here, so we expect for this band to continue to come toget up into our region and as that happens, thats when really the snow starts breaking out for us. Its moving in now. I think as we go through the next two to three hours well really see a nice enhancement of the snow and it will start to blossom out for just about everybody. 38 degrees here in town now. Cold enough just everywhere to snow. Leonardtown 32, 37 degrees for annapolis, baltimore 36, culpeper 35 and winchester i dont expect a ton of snow out along i81 today. Youll get some but i dont expect youre going to be in the bullseye by any means. This is futurecast. Notice 8 00 a. M. Its chasing a little bit of the snow in here. Watch what happens, though, as early as 10, 11 oclock. See how this blossoms and its right through here, i95 and off to the east, thats where the heaviest of the snow will be and we may have a little bit of banding taking place, too. And where that happens, snow rates will pick up and thats where we think more inches of snow well off to the east of us and down through Southern Maryland, 5 oclock its still snowing all along 895 up 270 along 70. Its tapering off along i81 back out to the west and again, maybe an inch or two out there at most. Definitely you guys are not in this in terms of two, three, 4inches of snow. By 11 oclock tonight, everything starts calming down. All right, heres what everybody wants to see through today, right . Snowfall forecasts. I havent tink erred with this much. I still think four to 6inches offer to the east of us. Saint marys county you already got three on the ground in places so easily could be six maybe a little bit more than that and again in some cases, isolated cases more than 6inches of snow. I think here for the metro back out to the west and to the north, two to 4 inches. Really heres 2inches, heres maybe 3inches across i95 and then off to the east of us, right before you get into that four to 6inch band maybe you before its all said and done. So, annie, the snow is coming. Once it gets here its going to be snowy all day long and then the real cold air sets in. Theres real cold air coming, arctic air is coming. You mean its going to get colder. I mean its going to get really cold for us. Snow first, then it gets really, really cold. All right, im bracing myself. Mind over matter. Thank you gary. Despite the snow coming theres still a lot going on around the dmv this weekend. Lets take a look at whats happening today and whats scheduled on time. Winter conditions of course can wreak havoc on your car and that is why we need to be prepared for the cold air as well as the slick conditions. Brian is here from caseys automotive, two locations, right . You got one in chantilly. Yup. One in sterling. Yup. Whew. All right. Hes a busy man. Busy life. Busy time of year for you. Oh my gosh we got a kid on the way we got a puppy. Wait a minute. Were here to talk about cars. Thats right, thats right. So, winter is upon us. Its cold weather and we need to be ready for that. We need to be proactive. Yes. I brought some neat props here today. We have a battery. Brought some coolant. We brought a tire. But i want to talk about being proactive and give viewers some tips. Can i admit something. Yeah. I dont think i ever really winterized my car. I want to start with the battery. We tend to forget about the battery until it dies. Everybody forgets about the battery. The thing with the battery is it really only has one purpose and thats to start your car. Now, if your engine is like me in the morning, it doesnt want to get out of bed, its cold and in the winter, your battery needs to have some extra juice to start that engine to get it going. Should we just replace our battery every winter because batteries just die like that. Yeah, you shouldnt replace it every wind. Batteries last about four to six years. This is a 48 month battery. How do we know when its getting close like we better do something. The problem is you wont know the construction of batteries is different. Usually when it does go bad, it is when youre at the Grocery Store and you want to start it and go home. Is there a way to test the life of it. Absolutely. Every time you bring your car in for service it should be tested. Thats something we do at caseys. Check the battery give them a idea of how long that battery is going to last. Thats what i tend to do every time and i ask them hey can you in case i need my windshield wiper. You brought some test tubes. Like a mad scientist. Ive been called a lot of things. What do you have right here. This engine coolant. Gary, do you have a strategy to fight the cold off in the winter . For myself, my body. I do. I try to bundle up as much as i can. I do pizza and doughnuts. Unfortunately your car cant do pizza and doughnuts. I can do that, too. Pale ale. Pale ale is a great thing but your car uses its coolant to regulate that temperature. So you need to be proactive check that coolant make sure its going to resist freezing so coolant has water in it and if your water in that cooling system freezes it could damage that system. We need to be proactive check our coolant. Can you just be adding coolant or should you change it every now and then. You should service it every manufacturer has a different interval and these are all different manufacturer coolants. Color does matter, taste matters. [laughter] so, each interval for every manufacturer is going to be different but you need to be proactive. Before the storms hit, before it gets really cold, coolants should be tested again a Service Professional can do that for you. You really shouldnt open up a hot cooling some. Thats a great tip for everybody. You should let the car cool off before you pop the radiator cap. It will explode. It will explode and you can get steam. Finally we have the tire. I know theres a way to kind of see if you need to replace it, the tread and all that so tell us what we need to know. This is a brand new tire. Theres plenty of tread here. And tread is what funnels away the slush the ice and the snow and it keeps the tread pattern on the road and gives you grip. It makes a huge difference especially on days like today. This is a section of tire that we cut out and its completely bald. So, if you look right across the middle, theres three little lines and those are called the tread wear indicators. Right. And if you can see those exposed like you can on tire and obviously you cant here, then that tires worn out. And how many tires have you seen like this. Oh, my gosh, its all dont look at mine outside right now. Very important things to remember especially in the winter. Brian, thank you so much. Thanks for having me on. You rock. Chantilly and sterling, two locations. Thank you. Thank you. Stay with us. Well have much more on the other side of the break. More news and gary back with your if you mean forecast. Thats why were introducing a new line of cafequality espresso drinks from mccafe. Get a small peppermint mocha for just two dollars. Yes, it does. Welcome back. Your time now is 7 31. Your temperature is at 37 right now. Lets get right to gary with an update on this Winter Weather and like the lyrics in the song gary people are wondering does this mean possibly a Winter Wonderland christmas. I guess it was a couple weeks ago i said its going to get cold and by when it gets cold all bets are off. I mean, when the pattern changes and the pattern becomes a cold pattern all you need to do is throw a little moisture into it. Uhhuh. So the short answer to your question is yeah, maybe. Could happen. Yes. I dont see it right now. There are children across the dmv that are going to love waking up to a winter White Christmas day. Im not dont im not guaranteeing it. Im just saying if the cold air is in place then its okay. Just give us hope. Thats all we want. We dont want guarantees just hope. I cant let the perception linger that its going you know, everybody gary its all right. Get everybody hopes up. Nobody is upset with you. Im not going to be here for christmas. Unless i get stuck here today by a snowstorm. How does it look today. It looks white. We got the snow coming in. Whats ahead. First big snow for d. C. Thow about that . I mean, and we go from that unusually warm spell right into this cold spell. Snow is starting to move in now. Has not moved in for everybody. I think by 9 oclock or so were at least going to have flurries coming across the metro. Maybe a little faster than that. Well look at radar here in just a second. And it does look like once the snow gets here periods of snow all day long. There may be some light occasionally some moderate snow. The heaviest of the snow we could get a little banding. We get a little bit of banding that should be off to the east, okay, and thats where the snow totals will be a little bit g four in the metro. Okay. I havent changed that. Even though the there has been a little bit of a delay in the arrival of the snow. A lot of you probably waking up this morning saying i thought we were supposed there was supposed to be snow on the ground. Its delayed just a little bit, all right. This is a tricky forecast. A lot of things are coming together. Higher snow amounts off to the east and to the southeast as well. Southern maryland has already received some snow upwards of 3inches down there. And it should taper off for just about everybody later on this evening and the Winter Weather advisories are in place and through just through the day today until the late after afternoon. Winter storm warnings in place as well. Where a winter storm warning is in place and look where its offer to the east and southeast down through Southern Maryland, thats where were expecting the totals to be a little bit greater. As i mentioned about four to six or so, maybe even a little bit more than that in spots. The rest of us including d. C. And the immediate metro here advisory. They have extended this a little bit farther to the north and the west. Frederick county now included all of Loudoun County including. Along i81 for the most part not included now until you get farther on down towards Harrison Burg that becomes a part of the Winter Weather advisory. Places like winchester and martinsburg and up towards hagerstown not really included in this one but i still think youll see a little bit of snow. All right, lets talk time line on this thing, when it really starts coming together. By 8 00 a. M. This morning were going to get a little bit of real light snow coming up into the metro here and as we take it into 11 00, 11 30 things will blossom just a little bit so i think by 11 00, 11 30, certainly before lunchtime most of us will be seeing snow. You see on futurecast the darker colors thats the more moderate snowfall. Later in the period i think we could have a short period of some banding off to the east of us. Here it is right there. You see a little bit heavier from jersey back down into parts of delaware and this maryland as well. So, the zone of the heaviest snow shifts to the east later on this afternoon and it really will taper off and cut off quickly back to the west and to the northwest. And certainly by later on this evening it is all said and done. Temperatures out there right now, were holding at 38 in the city. You know if youve been around here for a couple of winters once this snow starts falling, temperatures usually hold steady and then drop. Gaithersburg youre 33 degrees. Heres the deal on your weekend forecast. Periods of snow today, 38 for a high. Thats our temperature right now, okay. So, obviously thats probably going to be the high. Well cool off a little bit this afternoon. Breezy and cold. I want to show you where the snow is now and where it is not. Were starting to see it creep a little bit closer to us. This is super light here. Some of it not even touching the ground but look over the last couple of hours how it is kind of moving in our direction. I think a lot of this is just flurry activity and then a little bit farther to the south and the west Fauquier County Culpeper County starting to see a little bit more s i want to show you the sevenday forecast and then we have a phoner coming up with the Virginia Department of transportation. I wanted to show you how one day of snow and then the really cold stuff comes in middle part of next week. Arctic air comes in. High on wednesday, annie, 32 degrees. That could be optimistic. Thats a high. Its going to feel like its in the teens and 20s most of the day with the wind roaring out of the northwest. And then we stay chilly. So, if it stays like this if the cold pattern stays in place uhhuh. And i dont think it will entirely until christmas but if the cold pattern stays in place for christmas, our chances of having a White Christmas are a little bit higher. No guarantees. Higher this year. No guarantees. Perhaps higher this year because were seeing a system move through before officially actually winter officially begins which is december 21st, reit. Right. I dont think what snow we get from this will be lingering around through lets get to our phoner. On the phone we have someone from the Virginia Department of transportation to talk about how theyre getting ready. This is ellen from the Virginia Department of transportation joining us over the phone. Ellen here we go. We are about to start our first winter system moving through the area. You know, yesterday as early as 6 oclock in the evening i saw a small army of plow trucks lined up against the roads and this morning on my way in as well in Northern Virginia so whats the game plan for you all. Hey, how are you guys . Good. We ended up doing pretreatment on thursday and friday. We we get advance notice and we Pay Attention to the forecast obviously as everyone should. And when it looks likely that this is going to happen especially at the beginning it looked like it was going to happen on friday rush hour, we spring into action for that. So, the crews actually with the plow trucks have been on since late last night. How many trucks are out there . How many trucks do you plan on throughout the day. We have in our district we have about 1200 trucks out. 1200 trucks ready to go. And so whats the plan . I mean, in years past i know typically you all start with the primaries and then worked into the secondaries and then the neighborhood roads. I know of course right now theres no snow out there but give the viewers a sense of the plan for Virginia Department of transportation. Sure. When when the snow starts thats when the trucks are not going to be staying on the side of the road. Theyre staging in their immediate areas until the snow starts so when it starts up until 2inches theyre just going to be putting salt down and some sand in some of the neighborhoods. Once it gets to be 2inches of accumulation we call it plows down where the plow blades actually go down onto the ground to push the snow out of the way and interstates are always our primary. Concerned with commerce and movement of everything we always try to keep them opened for, you know, fuel, for food and to the Grocery Stores. This is less of a concern with this one because its not a ma right ellen. We work primary roads and secondary roads and subdivisions at the same time. Ellen from your perspective how much different is this that its happening on a saturday versus happening on a wednesday . Well, the only thing that we Pay Attention to i mean, we work 24 hours a day in storms like this so it really doesnt make a difference to us but what it does is it takes a lot of those crushes of traffic around the rush hours out of the equation. Youre not putting down less salt because you anticipate less traffic . No, no, not at all. Okay. We look at the road temperatures and once they start once the salt starts going down and then people start getting up and going out for the day we know theres always going to be people that are going to be on the road, that friction of the cars moving is going to essentially be what keeps the roads clear. And ellen, with snow starting kind of early in the season here, is there any concern about a salt supply shortage . I know thats been a concern in the past. No, we dont have any concerns with that. We have great channels for that and after every single storm our area headquarters, we have 18 of them they restock immediately so we stay pretty much full all year long. Okay, great news. Ellen, i know youre busy. Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us. Well check in with you will frequently im sure throughout the day. Thank you. Thanks. Have a great day. Yyou too. Lots of School Systems in the d. C. Region h have canceled activities. You can find the School Updates as well as the latest on the forecast on our fox5 weather app and check in with us throughout the day on facebook and twitter and alsolso we want to see them. Ive got mine ready to go. Coming up, gary is still tracking this Winter Weather. All right, gary. I am. Snow is starting to kind of spread on in. Where theyve decent snow, Southern Maryland. As much as 3inches in some spots down there. Pictures of that. It looks a little bit like a Winter Wonderland already. Roads are still fairly warm, okay, so right now not a huge problem on the roadways. Could that change . Well have the complete details, more forecasts on this snowy saturday coming up after this. Hey yeah . I switched to geico and got more more savings on Car Insurance . They helped with homeowners, too ok geicos got you covered like a blanket houston . You seeing this . Geico. Expect great savings and a whole lot more. All right. Well, hey, down in Southern Maryland heres another view for you. Got a little snow there. Ive had some reports two to 3 inches down there in Southern Maryland. If youre in Southern Maryland tweet me what you think you have, any pictures you have at gary fox5 d. C. Anybody seeing any snow please tweet me so that i dont know. I dont always get reports. I have a report thats in from charlottesville that its starting to snow down there and its creeping in our direction. Lets show you radar this morning. Everything is delayed, okay. I think the going forecast was this was really supposed to start during the overnight hours and that by now we would already have some snow on the ground. But things are picking up a little bit. Snow on the ground other than Southern Maryland, all right. So, things are picking up just a little bit and the last few frames of our satellite picture here see what were seeing as its coming in. We had a little brief burst overnight down and off to the east and the southeast. Those are the pictures im showing you but right here. See . Some of this is reaching the ground. Ground here in Prince Georges County. This has just blossomed in the last five, ten minutes or so, so it is starting to come on across, some snow is starting to fly here. Well zoom on down. Theres two colors here. Whenever i see these two colors i think that theres a pretty good likelihood the snow is getting down to the ground. Other than that, this is so light maybe a few flurries. Hard to see. Could be happening. But then you got right down here through Prince Georges County, up towards Anne Arrundel county, all of this is more than likely hitting the ground as some light snow. Down through Charles County, too. And again, were just kind of seeing this blossom, just kind of seeing it grow as the dynamics are beginning to come together in the upper atmosphere. Assoatmosphere. So, this is what were watching. The heavier amounts of moisture down to the south and you see these showers here, maybe a couple thunderstorms offshore from North Carolina, a lot of that i think absorbed some of the moisture that was supposed to come in overnight tonight and bring the snow. But now were getting kind of the upper levels of the and you can see the snow really from georgia all the way up into western North Carolina and now its spreading up into virginia. Here through the midatlantic and the metro as well. So, well just see this continuing on and off. Periods of snow during the day today. Winter weather advisories has been issued. Winter storm warnings have been issued. Thats for the pink off to the east and to the southeast of us and thats where i think were going to have the majority of the snow, four, 6inches of snow, maybe even more than that. Heres the important graphic right when youre talking about a snowfall because you want to see the snowfall forecast. I havent really tink kerred with this much. Even though we didnt get any snow overnight i do believe that at least, at least here for the metro, before its all said and done, well get 2inches of snow, okay. At the very least the way its looking right now and that would be grassy areas rooftops. Not really a lot on the roadways unless we get a burst of snow, a burst moderate to heavy snow we could really have some issues on the roads but theyve d pretreating out there. Off to the west, dusting to two along 81 and then off to the east thats where i think theres going to be more of a bullseye. Four to 6inches, maybe even more than that in isolated spots. Let me get out of the way. One last look for the dmv. You have temperatures cold enough for two to 4 inches of snow. Annie, well talk more about the snow all morning long as a matter of fact. Back over to you. Thanks so much gary. Speaking of the snow, its a great day to be indoors and play some board games and thats what were tackling today its time to put down those phones and tablets because its time for some family games and psychologists say spending time and bonding with your family members can help with Childrens Development and social skills. Maureen loftis has some games we can play with and talk about board games. I think its a forgotten thing. In my household we play family games at least twice a week and theyre from candy land to monopoly and it just keeps us stimulated. Yes, unfortunately today we yeah. In our homes sometimes we have more devices than people so oftentimes in family gatherings people are looking at their screens. Thats right. Its time to put down the screens and reconnect and the best way is through games. You dont have to commit to monopoly. Thats a long game. Many games can be played in two minutes, five minutes just to reconnect and what it really does is it helps to stimulate parts of your brain. A memory is such a big thing and we always talk about what can you eat to improve your memory blue berry cinnamon but really its just using your brain. Yes. Unfortunately we think our brain is going to decrease as it age but it doesnt have to. It only does because we dont use it as often. Rather than when you say i cant remember where my keys are say to yourself wait a minute let me think where i put my keys and tell yourself that you can remember and actually exercise and try to retrieve that information. Thats much more effective in retaining your memory capabilities then saying its just going to go away. You work with clients all the t memory and working those cognitive skills. You brought in a game i thought that was interesting called distraction. Yes. How does this work . I think this is an excellent exercise. This is just a great example. Its a game you can play for two minutes, five minutes. Pull a card up. Okay. And say the number. Six. Okay. Now im going to take the next card and you have to remember both numbers. Six, four. Six, four, nine. Six, four, nine, two. I have to answer the question. So, this is the distraction card. This is the distraction card and it says what was the best thing that happened to me this week . My daughter did fabulous at a gymnastics meet. Okay, great. So, six, four, nine, two. Six, four, nine, two, one. Do i pull one out. No. Six, four, nine, two, one and your daughter good great at gymnastics. Six, four, nine, two, one, six. Keep going. Six, four, nine, two, six, one, six. Okay. But now answer the question. What is your favorite summer but for now ill say winter cause were in almost winter. Now remember all the cards. Six, four, nine, two, one, six, your daughter did great at gymnastics. Six, four, nine, two, one, six, six. Okay. Six, four, nine, two, one, six, six, two. Your turn. Youre good. Eight, six, four, nine, one, six, six, two, eight. Not quite, not quite. I get the point. Okay, i love this game. This is going to be a christmas list on my list here. Thank you so much maureen. Thank you. I think what youre doing is great and we have to promote people to get those brains going. Get those brains going. Put down the screens. Where where can he we find you. Were at learning rx. I will always remember you maureen. Stay with us. Well be right back. Music i was diagnosed with hiv in 2016, but i didnt want my life to just. Stop. This is fox5 news ahead this morning, its the first snow of the season and it is already coming down in some areas. So, the big question, how much will you get . Gary has an update on the snow totals you should expect. Plus, it can get slick out there if you hit the road. Fox5 is keeping track of Road Conditions in the d. C. Area. A live report coming up. And a deadly crash clogs up a major interstate for hours. The latest on the investigation as well as first look at images from the scene. Time now is 8 01 much thanks for joining us on this saturday morning. Im annie yu. It is december 9, 2017. Lets begin with a live look outside on this saturday morning. You can certainly feel the frigid air as temperatures continue to drop this morning. Heres a live look. It looks pretty gray out there but it certainly sets the scene for whats to come gary. Winter weather advisories warnings are already in effect across the area and we have Team Coverage this morning of our first snow of the winter season. Tisha is headed to Saint Marys County in maryland where the snow is coming down but first lets check in with u todays winterlike forecast. Snow is coming down in ashford. I want to thank everybody. Tweets are coming in. [inaudible] snow totals pictures and ill retweet them and share them with everybody. Its a great way to keep up with where its snowing and not snowing yet but everybody is going to get the snow coming in fast and furious. Bethesda its snowing lightly in the city, the metro now, ashburn its already starting to cover the ground and the rooftops out there. Were going to see a lot of this. Its been a little bit late arriving, maybe a little bit later than what we had previously thought but you know snow around here, it starts on its time, not on our time, right . 37 degrees now so it started snowing lightly. Temperatures are starting to drop. Gaithersburg has come up a little bit. Dulles at 33 degrees. The roads arent necessarily a problem right now. Where we get some moderate snow bursts thats where i think you could have problems on the roads. Everybody has been treated nicely or most everythings been treated but dont go out if you dont have starts for you around here. So, manassas youre at 34. Culpeper youre 34 degrees. And so thats i got to reduce this really quick or im not going to be able to make my computer work. Lot going on here. All right. So, 37 degrees here in town. Manassas sitting at 34 degrees. First snow for d. C. , it got cold and what do you know, the snow shows up. So, this is what it looks like on the radar right now. Weve zoomed in a little bit. The deeper purple, thats actually some pretty good snow flying there. For Prince Georges County, over into an arrundel county up towards annapolis some snow there. Look, i mean, i just got a picture out around ashburn and chantilly, places like that before the snow is arriving so all this out here its snowing and initially once this started, it was evaporating before it hit the ground but i think a lot of this is coming down. Montclair gainsville down towards culpeper and even down towards spotsylvania so thats where its snowing right now. Snow is starting of course to move in and we anticipated that it periods of snow kind of on and off all day long. Accumulations, this is important, i havent changed this, i still think were good for two to 4inches in the metro, okay and then back to the western neighborhoods, northwestern neighborhoods, maybe you get two. This is really the bulk of the snow is i95 off to the east and the southeast where we could get four to 6inches of snow. Parts of Saint Marys County already has almost 3inches of snow on the ground so a little bit more. Theyll get to 6inches of snow and some places out there could receive more than 6inches of snow and by later on this evening, this is pretty much going to taper off for everybody, and its pretty typical the way it happens around here. Once it starts tapering off it gets out of here in a hurry so i think by 10 oclock tonight, all this snow is over. Everybody will have gotten what theyre going to get. Annie, i think here in the city two to 4 inches of snow. A lot of snow on the grass. A lot of snow on the rooftops and cars. And where there is a burst of snow, it could be a probl o stay home and enjoy it. Be a little bit wet. Oh, we know. Anything can really set the traffic into luckily its on a saturday, okay. Everybody can just kind of chill out and enjoy it. Yeah, thats right. Except for the few of us that have to be at work. Exact. We sent our tisha lewis on the roads and we continue our Team Coverage. Shes been checking out the roads in Northern Virginia and now shes headed to Saint Marys County in maryland where the snow was already coming down. Tisha, so, gary tells me that they clocked in at about 2. 6inches. That is where youre headed. How are the roads looking right now . Reporter well, so far so good annie. It is a little bit of flurries that we are encountering as we head towards that direction in maryland. But take a look at what we see. Again, its clear roads, a lot of people heeding the advice to stay off the roadways. Its just a few cars but the roads look clear and ready and prepared for whats to come. Again, we are headed to Saint Marys County and heres some video overnight from just the snowfall that that came down. A lot of people have been posting pictures on social media as well. But this is the video that came into the fox5 studios showing the snowfall and the more, again, is expected in Saint Marys County and Southern Maryland. So, that is the direction that we are headed in. Again, also we have some video i believe just from today actually of snowfall in that area. [inaudible] all right, looks like we lost tisha there. Well check back in with her in just a bit. But again shes on our way to Saint Marys County and hollywood maryland area where theyve already seen 3inches of snow. Meanwhile people down south sure got their own dusting of Winter Weather yesterday. Snow fell in parts of texas, South Carolina and even georgia. And in san antonio, texas, they saw up to 3inches. And it blanketed the area. It was really look at this. So pretty. And spartanburg South Carolina woke up to these falling flakes and people in atlanta also got their first real taste of winter so im sure theyre enjoying it hopefully. Despite the snow schools in the city stayed opened. Of course lots of School Systems in our area in the d. C. Region they have canceled activities for today some even going into sunday and we have been letting you know about that since yesterday. You can find all those latest School Updates as well as the latest forecasts on the fox5 weather app. Please download that and send us your snow pictures using the fox5 snow day. We and want to see your fun pictures. It will gets to some stories making headlines this morning. Still developing out of rockville maryland, police continuing to investigate a deadly crash on i270. Heres some images from the scene of the accident. Police say the crash happened last night just south of falls road. One person was killed and three others were injured. At first officers thought that the two people were ejected from one of the vehicles but First Responders now think they actually got out of the car and then were hit. A crash investigation which of course caused traffic to be backed up for miles. This is an incredible backup here. Some lanes were still closed this morning and just reopened a few hours ago. And in Northern Virginia, a student at a high school there is under arrest this morning for threatening to shoot students and teachers and to blow up the school. That student goes to george Mason High School in falls church. A classmate reported hearing about the suspects plan on tuesday. The school then contacted the alleged students parents and told them their child needed to stay home until the investigation was complete. A search of the students home found bb guns altered to look like real guns and a letter was sent home to parents saying while Police Believe this to be a single threat made by a single student we urge our students staff and community to remain vigilant and, yes, if you see something, certainly say something. Its not known at this time what pushes punishment the student will face. Two families forced out of their homes because of a large along dillon court and fire crews worked through the night battling this plays. According to investigators the fire broke out in one house and then spread to the others. Two of the homes had extensive damage. Its not clear right now exactly what this will cost. Thankfully though no injuries in this fire. And a couple of lucky kids will take off on a magical journey to the north pole today. United airlines is flying children from 15 local hospices from Dulles Airport to see santa claus. The plane took off today at 8 oclock this morning and certainly its a once in a lifetime experience for these children. Once they land at the north pole a couple of elves will take them through a twinkling lights display to see santa claus. Theyre also going to be doing some Face Painting gift exchanges and games. Time now is it 8 09. New details on the abrupt resignation of trent franks and why hes stepping down and of course gary will be back with another look at your saturday forecast. Heres a live look outside right now in maryland, Southern Maryland where they half inches of snow already. Tisha lewis heading there so well have a live report coming up. There are those of us who like to venture to the unexplored. Those of us who go out there with a sense of wonder. If youre one of us, and you want to explore more of this great planet, were ready to take you there. Widen your world. Turkish Airlines Welcome back. Your time now 8 12. President trump finished up the work week with a Campaign Style rally in pensacola florida. The president touched on a number of issues including tax reform immigration healthcare as well as climate change. Then the president turned his attention to next weeks Controversial Senate race in alabama. He urged people in alabama to vote for republican candidate roy moore who has been under scrutiny for Sexual Misconduct allegations. We need somebody in that senate seat who will vote for our make America Great again agenda. [cheers and applause] which involves. , which involves tough on crime, strong on borders, strong on immigration. We want great people coming into our country. Building the wall, strengthening our military. Pensacola borders alabama. So many voters there may so, many voter there is may see the president s remarks. Recent polls show moore is leading Democrat Doug Jones by about six points. We have new details this morning on the abrupt resignation of gop representative trent franks. A former aide tells the Associated Press that the congressman repeatedly pressed heto one points he offered her 5 million to act as a surrogate mother. The staff says those conversations took place in private. Sometimes in franks vehicle. She previously told him she was not interested. A statement from the lawmaker says he regrets these conversations caused distress. All right, gary, are we still ton par to get the two to 4 inches . Everybody wants to know. I think so. I was thinking earlier, i would maybe tinker with that just a little bit. Even though the snow starts a little bit later, we didnt get really any overnight but i think we can do two here. But it does look like in the atmosphere when you start looking at whats going on in the atmosphere i think two is doable. When i woke up this morning the first thing i did was look out the blinds. Oh, absolutely. Is there any snow. I was so hopeful there was snow. You dont have any like snow rituals or anything like that, do you . A lot of people do. We wont get into that. I do. Only because i have a fiveyearold and she loves snow. Her eyes lit up yesterday w possibly be snow this morning. I think a lot of people feel like theyre five when it starts snowing. Yeah. Anyway especially since its on a saturday, the weekend, a lot of folks can enjoy it. It wont be too much of a problem. I hope if you dont have to be anywhere, you dont try and get out on the roads if its snowing. Not everybody around here is going to get a lot of snow, okay. Back out to the west, maybe just a little bit, maybe a dusting to one, maybe out west along i81 some spots Higher Elevations could get 2inches of snow but i think thats a stretch out west. Winds right now northwest at 9 miles per hour. Temperatures dropped a little bit at 37 degrees. From when i came in this morning, okay, things have the snow has really blossomed. There was no snow out there. But now were beginning to see that happening. Its kind of moving in but at the same time its just really kind of developing on top of us the way the atmosphere is working here this morning and it will continue throughout the day. You can see right now a little bit of the radar is starting to colorize where maybe theres a little bit of a mix or maybe theres a little bit of light snow mixing in and could happen from time to time today but i think until we get until this afternoon, it should be completely snow and as we progress into the afternoon hours, i think things could get the snow could get just a little bit drier. Initially i think some of this could be pretty wet. You can see where the snow is really coming down. Charles county here back up to southern and central sections of Prince Georges County. Hey, tweet me gary fox5 d. C. Pictures, is it snowing or not snowing, how much you have, how much you end up with. Ill be going on social media on and off all day. Well cover that really hard today so youll know whats happening out there but basically were just going to get two or 3inches of snow around the metro maybe four in spots. Winter weather alerts here. Youve got pink. These are witness weather warnings from jersey all the way down through delaware right through Central Virginia and out towards central and western sections of North Carolina. They got a bunchf snow out there yesterday. Trust me, i drove through it and coming up into southwestern virginia they could get four to six maybe isolated 8inch amounts before its all said and and bordering the warning is the advisory. Thats where we are here in d. C. Surrounding counties in the Winter Weather advisory. Back out to the west, not initially down i81. Winchester, martinsburg, hagerstown youre not in this but you get farther down towards Harrison Burg and they are in this and in charlottesville its been snowing on and off for the last couple hours too. Heres a real quick look at your weekend forecast. Periods of snow today, 38 i think weve topped out already as we progress into the afternoon temperatures with the snow will be coming down into the middle 30s to right around freezing or so. Breezy tomorrow, still cold, 39. Heres the time line. You can see now by 9 oclock all this snow is moving on across. Noontime, all right, i95 to the east, thats where the heaviest of the snow is and were fourthly could get a little bit of banding here. What that means is that the snow rates will intensify just a little bit so where we get the banding of snow, thats where we could possibly get five, six, 7inches, more than that off to the east of okay. And look how dramatically it tapers off back out to the west. Very little, if any, snow accumulates along that i81 corridor but inside of that, for i95 and off to the east, again, pretty good snow amounts. Look how quickly it tapers off, too, this evening. It will go from a little bit of light snow 7 oclock to no snow by 9, 10 oclock. The planner looks like this. Snow for every hour. 33 degrees or so by 4 oclock. Just keep in mind, annie even though the roads have been treated out there you still could have some slippery conditions so stay at home, enjoy. One of the things of course are the monuments. We all ride around in the evening and look at them and get inspired. The other thing is that we have some notable sights that people might exhibit. For example the Willard Hotel has carollings all through the Christmas Season and you can go and attend that for free and visit and listen to the singers. They also have a lovely huge Gingerbread House that is done and is opened for visitors. I also want to point out to people that the United States Botanic Garden has a lovely train setting. Not just known for the stinky flour. No, its its free. If you have a little boy or boys or children like me that and bring family members. I also brought some wonderful items that you might be able to incorporate into your family, into your love. Love it. Decor. Okay. The first thing is i have these two beautiful santas, one that was picked out by my little guy edward. We were walking down last year in cvs and hes like momma, santa. I was like i got to get him. So we have this santa. We incorporate him. He was actually on our ledge in our home and this is a really important part of our life. We also have this other santa that sings a lot. You guys will see this all over. I love that. Is that the one that dances as well. Thankfully this one only sings this years one dances. So, little edward loves this guy, too, so hes also incorporated into our home. So cute. The other thing i wanted to share with people is painting ornaments. This is the time for family and so you can incorporate your children visitors and so forth into that process. We also want to keep in mind perhaps our neighbors and Community People that might be visiting with us. I painted some glass bulbs i used my annie sloane chalk paint. I also painted some pine cones that were outside. You can do those. Those are pretty easy. I showed that last year. Yes. Really nice and fun and some cinnamon sticks nice easy decor items. It smells so good in here. Thank. What did you do here . This is getting my attention. A pop of color. I love orange, okay, so we at the studio we have been decorating peoples fireplaces and homes and im using a lot of greens. So, we have juniper, we have some seeded u. This makes a nice decor for your fireplace. Or your chandelier. On my web site we have pictures of chandeliers. Nice to get inspired. To get inspired and bring earth home and bring a part of your culture and your community into your lifestyle. Last seats son i tried Something Like this at home on diy my table, my coffee table and for different reasons. Very good. I love these. These are your simple mason jars and i painted these in my annie sloane chalk paint and theyre in my little plastic charger from walmart nothing fancy and little pine cones as well. Little edward can go outside and gather up the pine cones. He can. I had ava do it like go get momma some pine cones. He can. We talked about community and incorporating diversity. Chris is santa is a element of the christian holiday where its sort of commercialized representing the birth of christ. In my family we go to church for Christmas Eve service and thats really important to us in terms of the birth of christ which is really the gift, santa prints gi, brings gifts you get the connection. Do you want to talk about niece. These are menorahs shared with me by my neighbors. Whats so lovely about hanukkah which greens december 12 through the 20 is that this is an opportunity for j remember the time when they were not able to practice their religion and once they went back into the temple they had oil enough for one day of candle but the miracle happened that they had eight days afr of candle. This is the time to invite people into your home, share your culture, share your experiences and im really grateful for my neighbors for sharing those menorahs with me. Shout out to bahias neighbors. Shout out. Thank you for those important reminders and tips. Well be right back after this short break. Thank you, annie. Of course. I can do more to lower my a1c. Because my body can still make its own insulin. And i take trulicity once a week to activate my body to release it, like its supposed to. Trulicity is not insulin. It comes in a onceweekly, truly easytouse pen. The pen where you dont have to see or handle a needle. And it works 24 7. Trulicity is a onceweekly injectable medicine to improve blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when used with diet and exercise. It should not be the first medicine to treat diabetes, or for people with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Do not take trulicity if you have a personal or Family History of medullary thyroid cancer, if you have multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2, or if youre allergic to trulicity. Stop trulicity and call your doctor right away if you have a lump or swelling in your neck, severe stomach pain, or symptoms like itching, rash, or trouble breathing. Serious side effects may include pancreatitis. Taking trulicity with a sulfonylurea or insulin increases your risk for low blood sugar. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, decreased appetite, and indigestion. Some side effects can lead to dehydration, which may worsen kidney problems. To help lower my a1c i choose trulicity to activate my within. Ask your doctor if onceweekly trulicity is right for you. Okay, so i know many of you sitting at home especially the little ones are probably like yay its coming, its coming so hurry up and get those phones and send us your pictures and your videos fox5 snow day. They finally were able to get some reports. This is all from Saint Marys County. Okay, so that Saint Marys County, you say we never talk about you. Here you go. This is all youre the star today. Thats right. So far Saint Marys County leonardtown, saint marys, places like youre all the star. Okay, so, if you live in Saint Marys County, you probably know where the park hill, damron and ridge, almost 3inches for damron. Ridge a little over 3inches and 3inches for park hill. So those are really the winners so far. They ended up getting the snow overnight and we expect thats where most of the snow is going to be today. Down in Saint Marys County, you guys could get six, seven, there may be a couple of isolated 8inch spots before its all said and done. This storm has overproduced through the deep south. So, i suspect this is probably going to have a few surprises for us even though its a little bit of a different storm for us than what happened down south. Okay. 34 for gaithersburg. 32 for westminster. Dulles 33. Really cold out to the west, too, but theyre not going to get much snow along i81. Its really down here, southeastern where the jackpot is going to be. Obviously first snow for the season for d. C. And we really watch the snow blossom over the so. When annie first when annie and i first started at 7 oclock this morning there really wasnt any snow flying but look whats happened now. Its kind of moving in, kind of growing on top of us. So, where the purple here from annapolis down right through Anne Arrundel county into central and southern Prince Georges County, right down into Charles County, thats a good ribbon of snow here and again, i think that sets it up for really where theyre going to have the majority of the snow, four, 6inch amounts just off to the east and southeast of the metro. Watch how it just kind of has been moving in and becoming a little bit more enhanced off to the east of us. This enhancement is taking place all the way down through georgia where its still snowing in atlanta. Theyve picked up as much as a foot of snow in northern sections of georgia and they didnt expect it. It was a little bit of a surprise for them. And then that ribbon of snow runs i all the way up basically 81 even though theres not a lot of snow there and up into the metro area. Snow is moving in pretty quick now. Periods of snow all day for us. Accumulations of two to four for the metro, okay. I think were there. I think were going to get there, at least to 2inches. Off to the east and southeast, four to 6inches. Thats almost already verified for Saint Marys County. And there could be even more than that locally, maybe seven or 8inches of snow east and southeast for Southern Maryland before its all said and done, it tapers off by later on this evening. All right. Since saint marys is the star for now, until we play a little catchup. Saint marys is always a star. Its always the star, yes. But in terms of snow, were going to get some of the white stuff, too, and we sent our tisha lewis to saint marys so well have a live report. Lets take you down south. Snow is something people in texas South Carolina and georgia rarely get to see but they are seeing a lot of it today. I do that wonder if they are enjoying this, though, tony i was going to call you tony gary. In San Antonio Texas up to 3inches blanketed the area. Carolina woke up to these falling flakes and not a lot of snow stuck to the streets though and people in atlanta also got their first real taste of winter. Check that out. That is legit snow. We continue our Team Coverage right now. Lets get right to tisha lewis who is still live on the roads headed to Saint Marys County, maryland, with a closer look at the snow conditions there. Hi, tisha. Reporter good morning, to you, annie and just a few mo cross into Saint Marys County here in maryland. Take a look at the roadways here. You can see it is snowing, some flurries are coming down. The road for the most part is clear. Whats interesting is that the cars that are passing in the opposite direction do have snow on them. So, we know we are headed in the right direction and it appears [inaudible] aall right, looks like we lost tisha there. Well try to check back in with her in just a bit. Were also waiting to get a phone interview, gary, with the Maryland Department of transportation. Our good friend Charlie Gishler up there. Charlie is on the phone. Hey, charlie. Hey. Hey. How is it. All right, charlie here we go our first significant snowfall of the season. Yeah. Thats what theyre calling for and were ready for it. We actually pretreated some of the roads around the area just cause its [inaudible] snow here. Of course if it started as rain we couldnt do that it would just wash it right off but what were dealing with here is pavement temperatures. Thats going to be the key throughout the day. Of course we have these new infrared sensors 62 deployed around the state and greater d. C. Area and our roads down there. Expect wet roads when it starts but still it is getting to be wintertime so extra caution needed. Charlie, is there a way that somebody could access those pavement temperatures . You guys put them up on the internet anywhere so anybody can just take a look at them. Sure. Roads maryland. Gov. Go on the home page and go down where it says chart coordinated Action Response team and youll have areas with the Speed Sensors and get the pavement temperatures and all that kind of good stuff there. Thats 48. Marrycharlie everybody wan know what are the pretreatment. I know you have a small army of trucks out there. Are you talking about 1600 or so that are situated. Around the whole state thats a perfect number thats everywhere from the shore where theyre really getting a lot of snow up to Garrett Allegany county and in between but in the montgomery Prince Georges County area and the roads that we maintain weve got a little more than 450sha and contractor crews out patrolling now. I mean, we cant not patrol because the moment we sit back is the moment when murphy will take over with his law and something will happen so we got to be out there and pretreat. We already did the pretreating. Now its going to be Winter Operations as soon as the snow comes. So, will you guys be out there and just stay out all day and then once the snow begins to break up later this evening, thats when youre done or will you keep on going right into the evening and it starts getting colder . What will happen, and thats a great question because in the overnight hours obviously is when the temperatures plummet once the sun sets and with these sensors i was you what the temperatures are but what they can do is tell you what kind of precipitation is on the ground whether its wet from rain, is it ice or is it snow. And from that it also could determine the percentage of salinity on the roadway so we can make smart deployment and proactive deployments. If we see the salinity temperatures going down we might have to hit it with rebrine to make sure it doesnt refreeze. I mentioned all morning i was down south yesterday and high to drive through the carolinas and im just telling you that i was thinking where are all the salt trucks out here because it was dicey for a little while and people down there charlie they have no clue what to do when its snowing. It was coming down pretty good. So im just saying that i appreciate you. I love to see those salt trucks because that keeps us so safe. Thats a good point, too. During the winter ill be saying this all winter snowplows because theyre in a hurry. Thats a bad idea. Why would you want to . Its common sense. Why would you want to pass them . Theyre there to help you. And then of course keep your distance cau cause you dont t to get pummeled by the salt hitting your car. Weve dialed that back a lot. Its kind of as fast as the plow is going is how that spinner is going so its not throwing it like it used to in the old days. But you know, we like to tell people the unplowed untreated road is ahead of these crews out there and the treated plowed roads is behind them. Thats where you need to be. Charlie you have everything under control. Sounds like you guys are doing everything you can to keep us safe on the roads. Thank you so much. Well check back in with you throughout the day. You got it. All right, charlie. Those guys are rock stars. They are. When you need them and youre out there traveling, i mean, it is so it just gives you a really good sense of comfort to know that those roads have been treated. I dont mean to brag but i feel like the d. C. Region, we have it on lock when it comes to snow. They do a good job ive been here almost 15 years. Theres only been a couple of issues in but we learned from them. Exactly. And then next season its fixed. Sometimes youre going to get surprised. Thats just the way it happens. Which is why i asked Virginia Department of transportation about the salt supply because in the past weve run low. This year they say they have plenty. Fox5 continuing. Were tracking this first blast of Winter Weather. Gary is going to be back on the other side to give you a full forecast. All right, welcome back. Time now is 8 48. Heres a live look outside of the white house of course and it is really coming down out there and gary, this is going to start to stick in certain parts. Yes. Its definitely cold enough on the pavement to stick. And you know, i think a lot of people want to know when is the bulk coming. Were going to see a lot of snow like this even heavier at times. I think its going to be slow and steady here in the city and the metro and then greater amounts are off to the east of us. Im getting reports, and i just looked outside it seems to be melting on contact right now here in the city. Yeah. But eventually snow should get a little bit harder and takes it to get harder moderate snow and it will start accumulating. Were talking grassy areas rooftops cars, cold places like that. I dont expect much of a big deal on treated surfaces actually and we just talked to charlie done a great job out there as well as vdot. Theyve got 1200 trucks outgoing strong so hopefully with all that pretreatment and the continuation of the salt today we should be pretty good on the roads. Just keep it safe. Keep it slow. Youll be in great shape. Here is what were looking at right now. Moderate snow northern and north werth parts of Charles County up towards upper marlboro. Southern sections of Prince Georges County. We just showed you what it looks like so this lighter color thats very light snow coming down. More than flurries though and then up towards eastern and northeastern sections of the viewing area, get something pretty good snow. Zooming into northern sections of Charles County here la plata pretty good snow there moderate up to waldorf and back up to brandywine. Well show was we have been doing t the last couple hours. It has started blossoming. Now it looks like well maintain periods of snow pretty much all day long. Temperature in the city cooled down to 35. Weve come down 3 degrees in the last couple of hours. Gaithersburg now has dropped so of course most of these numbers are coming down with the snow starting to fall now. The pink are the winter storm warnings down through North Carolina. The purple are the Winter Weather advisories. Thats what were in here in d. C. Want to show you futurecast because, again, the snow is coming in now and look, by 12, 1 oclock, everybody is getting snow except for Western Areas here. Dont expect much. Very dramatic cutoff in the snow back out to the west and the northwest. Maybe just a dusting out here along 81, maybe no more than that. Higher elevations could pick up a little bit more and by 6, 7 oclock, it will be our last couple of hours of snow here. Again, highest totals off to the east of us and overnight tonight things are going to change. Heres the most important snowfall map. Now, this is what im going with now. By noon or so, im going to evaluate everything again and see if i need to make some adjustments to this. If im going to make adjustments i might actually trim this down just a little bit. Depending on whats happening here. If it still stays too dry and were not getting a lot of snow back out to the northwest, i may taper this off a little bit. Frederick county, western Loudoun County and along i81. But i think here in the metro were at least going to see 2inches. We may be lower end of this before its all said and done. Off to the east, though, parts of Saint Marys County, theyve already had 3inches, okay, so i think theyre going to easily verify and if they get a little bit of banding through here, annie, that means heavier snow bands, there could be a little bit more than 6inches of snow in some places. So theres your forecast. Ill be on social media pretty much all day long. What . Until 2, 3 oclock or so. Good for you gary. Well be watching you closely. Tweet me. Yes, tweet him. Make sure you fox5 snow day. I just shared a picture of my little one at home shes on the deck with her whole snow getup and theres like literally a dusting if that on our deck.
