Along route 50 near Cape Saint Claire road. We are told that this is the result of a tractortrailer accident that happened around 2 oclock this morning. The tractortrailer overturned to its side. Were told the drivers okay. No one was injured. But pretty much crews were out here trying to get all of this debris taken care of because there was a fuel spill, there was also Meat Products scattered across both of the westbound and eastbound sides. Now, all westbound lanes of route 50, again, reopened after hours of being closed. But its bumper to bumper out here, so please keep that in mind. Youre slow going but you are moving. Developing in Montgomery County overnight firefighters investigating a possible case of arson after crews responded to a townhouse on cedarwood drive in rockville after 2 00 a. M. One person was injured two displaced from the home. One person is in custody. That incident is under investigation. Police investigating a deadly shooting in southwest around 11 oclock last night or forrester street. Officers on the scene found man who had been shot in the chest. He later died. Now, at this time theres still no word on a suspect. Also in d. C. , overnight smoke inside of a homeless shelter forced residents out into the street. Firefighters say they traced the smoke back to a small smoldering fire in one of the ducts. No injuries reported and the injury has been deemed safe. Residents have been allowed back into that building. If your normal drive takes you on 95 through Stafford County you might see some activity tomorrow aimed at solving a painful mystery. The search for the remains of Pamela Butler. Fox5s bob barnard is live in northwest with more on this update. Bob, good morning. Reporter hey, allison, steve, good morning to you. Yes, this is where Pamela Butler lived and was murdered back in febru the basement of her home here on Fourth Street northwest. Her then boyfriend Jose Rodriguez cruz has recently pled guilty to the murder explained what happened and told the authorities that he did bury her body along i95 in Stafford County and we believe tomorrow morning, Virginia State police, d. C. Police, homicide detectives will be there searching the woods on along both the north and southbound lanes and also in the median for the remains of Pamela Butler. She was an analyst with the epa when she disappeared. This has been a mystery for many years but again, mr. Cruz has admitted to killing her and now is we believe not physically going to but verbally tell the authorities where they can find her body. Last night we spoke to derek butler, via video chat, the brother of Pamela Butler. I hope that hes telling the truth. I believe that the District Attorney and the him pretty good before we actually made the deal. So, im hopeful but i do have mixed emotions about it. Even though we know what happened to my sister, shes still missing. She didnt have a proper burial. She doesnt have a proper resting place and thats what we want for her. Reporter now, we believe that perhaps as early as tomorrow this haunting mystery for many years may finally come to an end for the butler family. This is a look at skyfox as annie yu gave us in the team coverage, 50 westbound lanes have reopened at exit 29. Youre no longer forced to detour at Cape Saint Claire road over to college park to two. We have heavy delays lingering from the bay bridge to past that that point at exit 29. Give yourself 45 extra minutes. Eastbound side all lanes reopened as well. Lets switch over for a look at that delay as you come off the bay bridge from kent island. Seeing big slowdowns. Look at that, guys, just a minute ago it was standstill so i guess since theyve reopened those lanes thats really easing so thats extremely good news for your morning commute. Unfortunately elsewhere were still dealing with big problems. Even though a crash on suitland parkway just cleared between stanton road and alabama avenue, delays. Pennsylvania avenue inbound seeing significant delays. This is a look at a crash 95 northbound at Prince William parkway coming from virginia through dale city into wo crash blocking the right lane right shoulder. A 30minute delay from dale city to the beltway. This is a look 95. 27 minute ride. Do you hit that backup in woodbridge keep that in mind in the main lanes. No crashes just some heavy volume building. As we take a look inside the beltway dont forget this is the first week so just want to remind everyone you need an ez pass, ez pass flex if you are traveling on those hov lanes through 9 30 this morning inside the beltway from the beltway through rosslyn. More wildfires and mor winds, high winds i should say. Fire crews battling those strong winds trying to save as many homes as possible. Its a tough battle right now. So far more than 100,000 acres of land has been scorched mostly from the thomas fire, that was the big one that started in Ventura County north of los angeles quite a bit but these pictures are from right outside los angeles. Another fire there threatening the famed wealthy neighborhood of belair just northwest of l. A. Evacuees found plenty of company on the road last night driving by the flames swallowing the hillside. Back in Ventura County some people digging through the rubble of what used to be their homes. The photos and the mementoes and the you know, the family heirlooms theyre gone and theyre not coming back. Thats all that mattered was that we were okay and our dog was okay. Now we just have to were going to start over. The toxic smoke from the fires forced the closure of nearly 300 schools in Southern California and the worst is yet to come. Hurricane force winds up to 80 Miles Per Hour expected in some areas later today. Already had some 85 miles an ho malibu. Well have a live report from california coming up in 15 minutes. We are also hours away from a huge announcement on senator al frankens political future. A chorus of calls for franken to step aside in the wake of Sexual Misconduct allegations grew very loud yesterday when more than 30 senators said their colleague has to go. Senator frankens office tweet ted last night that he is meeting with his family but that any reports that a final decision has been made are inaccurate. Yesterday a seventh and eighth accuser came forward. Whatever senator al franken is thinking right now, hes keeping it to himself or at least within a tight circle. Many of his Senate Colleagues have largely abandoned him. I do not feel that he should continue to serve. Reporter one member of congress after another came forward on twitter to call on franken to allegations from a seventh accuser, the atlantic quickly followed with a story of an eighth. If franken does resign it may also have to do with congressman john conyers who was forced to resign this week after numerous Sexual Harassment allegations. Some of his supporters in the Congressional Black Caucus suggested there was a double standard as long as franken clung to his seat and conyers gave up his. But in both cases, democrats point to President Trump who has faced his own accusations of Sexual Harassment. [cheers and applause] reporter and then there is roy moore. The Alabama Republican Senate candidate could win next weeks special election. After numerous allegations of Sexual Harassment and assault moore would put Senate Republicans in a bind and would almost certainly become both the subject of a Senate Ethics investigation and a potent weapon for democrats in next years midterm elections. What the democrats are doing is making ready, they are battening down the hatches as they get ready to launch an allout assault o especially over roy moore. Reporter now, we should mention going back to senator al franken that only one of those eight allegations is alleged to have occurred while franken was a sitting senator and he has said that he will cooperate with any Senate Ethics investigation. The other big story on capitol hill today, action to avoid a Government Shutdown. Federal agencies run out of money at midnight tomorrow. House leaders have planned a vote for today on a bill to keep the government running at least through december 22nd. The senate is due to take it up after that. Avoiding a Government Shutdown will likely be a big topic when President Trump meets with Democratic Leaders nancy pelosi and Chuck Schumer later today. Tensions remain high in the middle east this morning as the fallout continues from the president s historic move recognizers let me as israels capitol. Several World Leaders calling for an emergency session of the United Nations to discuss the issue. The United States issuing warnings to americans abroad about the possibility of protests. Just hours ago the leader of hamas called for uprising in the wake of President Trumps decision. Keep in mind that is moving again. 50 is easing delays from the bay bridge through an earlier closure point with a tractorTrailer Crash into Cape Saint Claire. 95 northbound at Prince William parkway crash is blocking the right shoulder and the left shoulder. Disabled tractortrailer. Through woodbridge youre slow. Just about a 30 minute delay from dale city on up. This is a look at the traffic thats startin westbound coming from the sandy point plaza you can see traffic is moving. Id still give yourself about 15 extra minutes to get from kent island into annapolis. Eastbound side is nice and quiet this morning. Aside from that one just keep in mind were dealing with those ongoing red line delays this morning. Today people across the nation and right here in the district will be protesting at their local Verizon Store to stave net neutrality. Its part of a National Effort to demand the Trump Administration end its assault on a free and open internet. The day of protest comes on the heels of letters sent by more than 150 celebrities committing to the protection of a free and open internet. Major bust bilateral in the d. C. Region. More than two dozen alleged gang members under arrest in what police are coordinated take down. The 28 arrests stem from a joint atf and fbi investigation into gang related crimes. More than 300 Law Enforcement officers in virginia maryland and d. C. Worked on that takedown yesterday. Agencies seized thousands of grams of cocaine crystal meth and 70 firearms. High winds and wildfires the situation growing by the hour. Crews continue to battle two wind fueled wildfires. This morning near the creek fire, this is incredible. How close it is to some of these areas we know. Were talking belair right there in los angeles. Reporter i know, some of the most expensive and exclusive areas in all of los angeles. First let me tell you where we are right now. Were in Lake View Terrace where the winds are starting to pick up quite a bit. This is what fir this is one of the command posts for one of the four fires thats been raging through california, through los angeles, thousands of homes are threatened. Lets go to video so you can see just what damage these flames have been doing. Now, just a few hours ago, the 90,000acre thomas fire in Ventura County touched down into the vacation town of ojai which is north of us. That fire already torched 150 homes. Now, earlier this week, embers from that fire jumped over the 101 freeway nearly touching the Pacific Ocean and were hearing again this morning that the fire jumped the 101 freeway again, shutting part of it down. Now, the series of Southern California wildfires has also hit the heart of los angeles, which is what you were referring to. That fire shut down a stretch of the 405 freeway, one of the busiest freeways in our region during rush hour traffic yesterday. Nearly 500 acres charred the Hollywood Hills near the getty center and homeowners of some of the properties in the country were desperately trying to save anything they could with garden hoses. Four homes were destroyed. Nearly a dozen more were damaged. Now, the creek fire grew to about 12 acres and the rye fire in Santa Clarita is now 7,000 acres. Back out live, there is not much good news right now but i will say its a big change from yesterday when everything was 0 percent contained. Most of these fires are at least 5 percent contained right now. One of them even 10 percent contained. So, a little bit of progress in that direction. Well send it back to you guys in the studio. The democrat facing pressure to resign over Sexual Misconduct now this comes as another woman congressional aid came forward yesterday claiming that franken tried to forcibly kiss her back in 2006. But this morning, it is still unclear if franken will indeed step aside. Joining us jesse burns associate editor of the hill with little more info for us this morning. Jesse, good to see you. Thanks. Is he going to step down this morning . If he doesnt step down it will be big news. The mounting pressure on him more than 30 democrats in the senate are calling for him to step down all the leadership in the senate are calling for him to step down. It would be surprise if he didnt. Doesnt look like if he stayed he would have little if any support even among his own party in the senate. Doesnt seem like theres much of a point to do so to fight this. Why such a quick move yesterday, though, why did we see all of a sudden everybody pile on board and suddenly say, look, wee dealt with this for a couple of weeks now. Weve reached the tipping point. Really surprising these allegations came out weeks ago. They came out last month against franken starting with broadcaster in los angeles. Only now come forward to cues him for sisly kissing or groping them have we seen the democrats come out. They were led by Senate Democrat women and that was key. Some of his closest allies on the senate coming out and saying this is time he needs to go. Some democrats say theyre trying to reclaim the moral high ground because republicans are dealing with roy moore in alabama Senate Candidate there accused of Sexual Misconduct. And so theyre trying to now kind of clean house and try to show that theres very serious about Sexual Harassment. Take the high road there in that situation. And important to note it was senate the female Democrat Members Senate Senate who led this but a lot of guys have gotten on board as well. Yeah. At this point more than 30 Democratic Senators have come on board including the top three in the Senate Charles schumer wonders and thats really key to have the leadership now saying he needs to go. We should see that announce many when this morning . We havent had a set time yet but sometime today we expect him to make announcement on the senate floor. Well see what happens with that. Thats the franken when it comes to the senate but not just the senate house the entire government the fear of this shutdown looming. What is the big issue right now as we approach this deadline tomorrow night . One of the big issues is some of these protections for undo you meaned immigrants in the country right now. These Daca Recipients that trump has kind of put in jeopardy by rescinding this program and now lawmakers are under pressure to actually end shrine those protections in the law so theres some concerns over that. Theres other concerns about how theyre going to go about the spending deal. Pass a shortterm bill just for a few weeks and try to get longer term. Theres differ factions within the republicans more conservative members trying to push for longer deal and maybe kind of separating that and providing more funds for defense spending as well. Weve seen where the president stands on this. Via twitter and among others and look square of squarely saying if the government shuts down its the democrats fault and the issue with illegal immigrants. Do democrats have any blow back here . Can democrats say it its very difficult for any party to try to defend a shut down and Neither Party wants that to happen. Going back to 2013 when there was a shutdown over obamacare massively painful for republicans and they suffered over that for years and so both parties realize its not a Winning Strategy to have a sh shutdown theyre trying to avoid it at all costs. At this point does it look like were leaning one way or the other. The clock is tick. There are meetings today over this. The deadline friday the ad in night is going to be its looming a number of hours away. Well have to come to solution here very quickly. Last thing jesse the president making news yesterday when he said United States will recognize jerusalem as the capital of israel this fulfilling a promise he likes to point out he fulfills promises and this again a move that tends to target his base of supp supporters. But on the International Scope of things, it seems to be look at little bit differently. Have we seen any major fallout yet, and if not, when might we . Diplomatically it isolates the United States as position of recognizing jerusalem as the capital of israel. And it really also goes against a long standing pig of the us being trying to be that mediator between the two sides trying to push for two state solution and so having the u. S. Come out now and appearing to favor one side over the other in that diplomatic sense thats going to be very difficult for the palestinians to swallow and theyre really not. Theyre coming out and really opposing this. Well see if theres continued fallout and violence over the next few days. Timing seems interesting as the president s own soninlaw and adviser has been trying to broker this mideast peace deal and now this move goes in the complete opposite direction of that. It does. He didnt fully do what he could have done in terms of moving the embassy to jerusalem right away. Putting that into motion. But just the fact that he is now setting that into motion and going against years of u. S. President s thats something the palestinians are not having at this point. Well see if there are calls for so this piece between the israelis and pales palestinians and if we others pushing back on this as well. Maryland state police along with other agencies were out here working this accident between tractor trailer and another crew car along route 50 here. Its basically snarled traffic for about four or five hours. Then around 6 00 45, they reopened the westbound lanes along route 50, and here we go. I mean, we check in with you bon an hour ago. Still people slowly making their way so these are the folks crosng you work your way through its slow going, but got news s you are going. Eastbound you can see youre just fine. Now, crews have cleared the scene out here. They told the towed the tractor trailer out of here as well as the other vehicle. They have their hands full with this spill spill. The dep was out here helping with that. I want to show you pictures guys. I was able to get pictures from contractor that works out here, and the first picture that you see on your screen we circled a seat on that crew car and this is where a contractor was sitting when he was hit by the tractor trailer. The contractor from maryland state highway tells us that they were doing some guardrail work out here when the crash happened. He says the tractor trailer lost of the car. He over corrected and land and on its side and slid into this crew vehicle. There was a worker on that crew truck. I want to you listen to how it all played out. He got a chance to get out of the way because the truck had started to slide towards him, so at that point when the truck went over and its side it slowed down enough for him to kind of jump up on the seat and brace for impact. So far, more than 100,000 acres of land and hundreds of homes have been scorched extremely strong winds fueling these flames with Hurricane Force winds up to 80 Miles Per Hour expected in some areas later today. The toxic smoke from these fires has also forced the closure of nearly 300 schools in the re region. Developing overnight in the district, Police Investigate a deadly shooting that hammed about 11 00 oclock last night on forrester street southwest. Police say a man was shot in the chest and later died from his injuries. No word on a suspect at this time. Also, in d. This is a murder case that has taken nearly a decade to reveal itself. Pam butler was strangled inside her home here on Fourth Street northwest in february of 2009. It was long suspected had her then boyfriend did it. Well, Jose Rodriguez cruz just in the past couple of months admitted yes, during an argument he strangled pam butler who was an analyst for the epa inside her home here, and then he disposed of her body. Well its taken till now to find out that he has told the authorities that he buried her body in some woods along i95 down in Stafford County. We believe Virginia State police and Dc Police Homicide detectives the highway tomorrow to begin the search for pam butlers remains. We have spoken to miss butlers brother derek who has cooperated with authorities. Helped push for this case to be closed, and has spoken to us over the years. We always hear from clicks we say as you just said 30 plus years sober. Why that distinction here. What does that say about being an click . It says that its a journey. That recovery is a journey. Like all of life. Its not something when you stop drinking or change your lifestyle like any lifestyle change it takes time and for a person with addiction disease, its a permanent change in your mind. So youre not every totally away from that opportunity to go b back. I want to talk about the study, but that you said addiction. Are are weeing looing at alcoholism the wrong way . Are we looking at it drink . Whats wrong with you . You know, as stigma attached still to alcoholism . Well the stigma is pretty powerful. We need to get over it. Alcohol consumption by itself is not a problem for many, many people. The science that were talking about this morning that weve learned since the 1990s shows that 70 of the people in the United States, for instance, can either drink safely and dont have a crave to overdo it or they dont care have an appetite for alcohol at all. 5 of the people are in stage addiction illness brain disease. And we talk about those 5 . In the middle there theres 25 of the people who are at some stage of early addiction and they may never get to final stage but we ignore that part of the population. They see symptoms, they see organs failing they dont say have you thought about not drinking. Lets talk about that, johnny. If off friend or someone especially over the holidays a lot of us have difficult memories, perhaps, or were in nostalgic or just at a party drinking too much but then, upping, that one person is drinking a little bit too much. So what do we do . Well, i think what we dont do, we dont make judgments and we dont condemn people. Its a good time of the year to realize that were all brothers and sisters on this planet. And Everyone Needs to look out for each other. As i said we have 25 of the people at risk. Holidays is the time when you have double up that risk. In fact Treatment Centers are always full in january, february and march. Right. That should tell you something. So i think that when people just are loving and caring about other people and they see somebody in distress its okay to say to have a soft drink now . Its okay to say can i get a cab for you. Its okay to set up a situation where the next day my friend enjoying his hangover to have a discussion about his health and about getting help. Okay.
