Daniel Lee Skimmings, of Gwenfro, appeared at Mold Crown Court on Thursday.
The 31-year-old had already admitted offences of assault by beating, breach of a restraining order and assaulting emergency workers at a previous hearing.
In April last year Skimmings was made the subject of a five-year restraining order prohibiting him contacting his former partner Kayleigh Evans.
But on December 1 he went to her home and Ms Evans let him in.
Simon Mintz, prosecuting, said after drinking rum, Skimmings became angry and started to blame Ms Evans for him 'being sent to prison.'
He assaulted her by strangling her and poking her in the eyes, the court heard, as well as pressing her mouth which caused a cut to her lip.
