The big concern now is ice and the refreeze overnight. Doug is back with a check on the conditions in just ten minutes. Time now for a deeper look at some of the weeks top political stories. Tonight we are talking russia, russia, and russia. There is unsettling news from the Washington Post, report about the president ial Daily Briefing that cia briefers dont mention russias interference in the president ial election for fear of angering mr. Trump. Questions are raised after public flattery from Vladimir Putin leez troubad president tr give him a call. They are doubling down. The moderator of meet the press, chuck todd. Nice to see you. Nice to see you. Welcome to the evening. Very confusing. Were here all the time. Right. I work, too. In congress raising the media on the criticism of the russia investigation. Are they gaining traction, truck . I think they are with the president s base. The fact is this is led by house republicans, i think, had sort of at least mainstreamed this issue within the republican media circles. I mean, certainly you see more conservative Media Outlets driving the focus on the investigators rather than on the investigation. Focusing on not the facts that have been found, but on who is in charge of finding the facts. Look, bill clintons white house did this to ken starr. It is certainly a political tactic you do. You do your best, somebody is investigating you, walls are closing in, partisan ship, partisan ship, partisan ship. It is an obvious political decision and political tactic. The question, though, is this piling on the fbi, collectively and this broad stroke staking an example of two agents and trying to extrapolate debilitating is that to the rule of law, right . What kind of damage does that do longterm . I had an former fbi agent on my cable show earlier today saying, an fbi agent goes into, say, a trump supporting area, will this person cooperate . They look at the fbi and say, i dont believe you guys. It is a Troubling Development if were not careful. What does it do for morale at the fbi. Thats why the president went there today because i think someone sent a message that more morale is down. I dont think he did anything to help morale because he beat them up again. Chuck, lets get back to the report the president is ignoring russian intelligence. Is this impacting National Security . Some are arguing that it is, that we have let russia, there should be more of a collective concern internationally at trying to curtail russias attempts to get involved in democracies around the world. We noah apparently evidence they have been playing with the mexican elections, trying to get the most antiamerican candidate, help them the most, create more tension for us here. The point is that they are continuing to do this and the concern is our Intelligence Community is raising alarm bells and the president i think looks at anything russia and says, if he somehow confirms, yeah, there are bad actors, it makes him look guilty, he cannot separate russia from himself. And thats a problem. Hes got to somehow separate the issue from himself and i think right now because of the investigation hes let it cloud his judgment. Vladimir putin yesterday praised the president and within hours the president called him to thank him for the compliment. Given all the attention around russia and the investigation, is this normal, outside of the norm . Yeah, you would think when youre being investigated for having too close a ties with the head of russia, you wouldnt want to showcase your with the leader of russia. So, but what would normally be conventional or common political sense isnt always the route that this president takes as hes demonstrated throughout. Throughout his presidency so far. All right. All right, chuck todd, thanks so much for coming in. We appreciate and were looking forward to meet the press. Your sunday morning. Maybe ill see you sunday morning.
