There is some irony in the fact that i am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of Sexual Assault sits in the oval office, and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the senate with the full support of his party. Reporter franken taking a swipe at President Trump and Alabama Senate candidate roy moore, but notably not apologizing for any of his alleged behavior. Some of the allegations against me are simply not true. Others i remember very differently. Reporter one of his accusers calling that appalling. He just keeps passing the buck and making it out to be something that we took his behavior the wrong way. Reporter the pressure started mounting after a seventh woman came forward publicly alleging sexually inapprope behavior. Its a very tough situation, but he did the right thing and i think were at a very important moment in our history. Here is a closer look at what happens to Al Frankens Senate seat. He is expected to serve out the rest of this year. The Democratic Senate will appoint a replacement and that appointee will serve until next years midterm elections in november and thats when the voters in minnesota can choose their own interim server to serve out the remainder frankens term to 2021. This will not have an impact on the balance of power in the senate, but that could change if the voters choose a republican to fill frankens seat. Myself as a wo and their accusations and we should not be yelling them. We should be behind them and give them the power they need to speak. I thought he was a great, excellent senator. You know, im disappointed that he is stepping down. I think thats good. I dont think he deserves to have a right to be in congress or to even have that position to make rules on behalf of his constituents. Lets go now across the country to breaking news coming in from new york city. Six people taken to the hospital after a town car hit some pedestrians this afternoon in southern manhattan. Police say the car hit two other vehicles before jumping a sidewalk and hitting several pedestrians. Police say the driver is in his 60s and is now being questioned and as of the moment they dont believe that this is terrorism. It appears to be an accident. But it brought back some disturbing memories for locals because it happened less than a mile away from that bike path where a man killed eight people with a reddit uhaul truck in october. The stained glass window above this lululemon store is a memorial to jana marie, the employee killed by a coworker who murray suspected was stealing from the store. The love window has become part of bethesda. It is about everybody and everything. We all should find love, even in the hardest times. It could be as long as two months before a bridge in Frederick County reopens. Chopper4 was over the river bridge. All traffic is being detoured to i270 while critical repairs are being made. At least four major wildfires continue to burn out of control across the fire blew threw here. There was nothing anyone could do. Reporter the rolling flames racing through more than 100,000 acres taking with them hundreds of homes, cars, power lines, everything in their path. Pushed by severe winds, gusting at times to hurricane strength. There is just a point where you have to pack up and go. Reporter more than 200,000 families have been evacuated. We need to get out of here. Reporter scrambling to safety. You can see the flames coming up. That was it. We were out of here. We didnt take anything. Reporter now, though, as some return to their burned out neighborhoods. I ran out of here. Reporter for so many, there is nothing left. Neighborhoods are packed there and police have said repeatedly its been tough to get them out and to safety. It is something they are continuing to warn everyone across the region about. Be ready to go when your time comes, and imagine that it will come because this wind is whipping and picking up and jumping into different pockets of different neighborhoods. So, the latest gusts ive seen this afternoon, up to 50 miles an hour so the dust and combination of dry air that is making these wildfires so difficult to contain. There are four major wildfires right now in Southern California. The thomas fire, the largest of them, only about 15 containment in total and the winds are going to be the strongest this afternoon. Now, the good news is as we look to friday and saturday, the winds do come down a little bit. So Fire Fighters should be able to get a better handle on the fires. You can see here the winds pick back up on sunday. So, take a look. 80 mile an hour gusts are possible this afternoon. Heres los angeles. Heres the ventura area and these are the two areas were really keeping a close eye on with winds coming out of the north, northeast. These are the santa ana ws. A developing story that we are following first at 4 00 here now, two students are dead after another student opened fire inside a new mexico high school. Aztec high school was a small school of about 900 students in the northwest corner of the state near the border of colorado. State police did not release any details about the shooter, but they did confirm that he was also dead. All the other students there have been cleared out of the building and taken to another area where parents can pick them up. Well stay on top of that story and bring you any new details as we get them here. Its cold here, but we dont have to deal with this just yet. Heavy snow falling in parts of western new york. That is creating whiteout conditions there. And snow plows are out trying to get ahead of it before the snow piles up. The perfect combination of cold air and warm moisture over the great lakes is going to lead to about 2 feet of snow piling up there. Well, as oure broken water mark haines increas water mains dramatically. We are preparing for whatever winter brings this way and they want you to do your part, too. News4s Megan Mcgrath has what it takes to patch those mains. Make sure both sides are clear. Reporter fixing a broken water main, its hands on time consuming work. And you never know what youre going to find until you actually get a look at the pipe. We dont know what we get when we come across until we get down to the bottom of the ground, till we hit the main. Sometimes its fast, sometimes its a few hours. Reporter with winter upon us and the regions typical swings in temperature we are at the height of the water main break season. The area averages 1800 a year with the vast majority happening between november and february. And theres no magic that alerts wssc when the pipe breaks. They need people to anything we need to know, the sooner that we know, the faster we can actually get out and fix it. Reporter and it doesnt have to be a gusher to make a report. Sometimes a water main is just leaking and the problem spot could be some distance away. The reports of even minor pooling can be important. This is what we call a correlater. Reporter using microphones, crews can then listen for the sound of trickling water and find the leak. We might have three or four crews out in several weeks of each other and nobody found a leak. We use this equipment to pinpoint it because theyre two blocks away. Reporter and a great way to report a problem is download the wssc app, and through the app you send the picture. Officers out on patrol overnight heard a blast and quickly responded to a burning town house just off old georgetown road. They helped a woman get out of the home. But this morning some neighbors off cedar wood drive had no idea how this all happened. Im just surprised. I scary. Police officers on patrol actually heard the explosion. They got here so quickly, in fact, the two people were still in the house. Reporter those alert officers charging into action calling Montgomery County fire crews to the scene. About 2 30 this morning the whole street was lined with Fire Fighting equipment. There was even some out in old georgetown. Reporter one person in the home escaped unharmed. 45 Fire Fighters got the fire under control and made a rescue. The victim, a woman, who was detained and taken to the hospital, now a person of interest in whats being investigated as arson. Theyre looking at the possibility of maybe some ignitable liquids being involved. There was something created an explosion. They called it incendiary in nature. Reporter a motive is still unclear. Many neighbors didnt want to speak on camera, but tell us the family in this corner home is quiet and keeps to themselves. And as you heard, that woman who was rescued is she is being treated for burns and related injuries. Her condition described as serious, but she is expected to recover. Now, the other thing were watching, were watching a storm out to the west and watching moisture down to the south. Coming together right around the midatlantic, and that will produce some snow for parts of our area. But where you live has everything to do what youre going to get. Some areas have much more snow in the forecast than others. Lets get to that right now. At least a better chance of snow than others. Amelia, taking a look at your four zone forecast. Exactly, doug. I want to start with an overview on saturday. So, rain and snow is in the forecast, but especially east of look at our high temperature, only 38 degrees. Our four zone forecast today, im going to do two zones in the 4 00 hour and two zones in the 5 00 hour. So everybody in our area is covered. Im starting off in the eastern zone and this is where rain and snow is highly likely during your day on saturday. You can see this is all of Southern Maryland down through the northern neck. King george and stafford counties as well. We could see some accumulations in our eastern zone, especially on the grass as far as the mountains. 2 inches or less. I said this earlier. Again, the snow lovers start doing your dance but you dont need to run to the Grocery Store just yet based on the forecast. As we head to the d. C. Metro area, this is where most of us live in our region, were talking about washington, prince georges county, Montgomery County, fairfax, where doug is in burke. Up through howard county. Were going to include bowie and camp springs, college park in our d. C. Metro area. There is a chance for rain and snow, and the timing in the d. C. Metro area would be saturday morning through the midday hours. But based on temperatures, li just too warm here on the ground for anything to stick. Well kind of ease into the wintry weather. But saturday is going to be a storm team4 weather alert day based on the forecast. This forecast can and will change so stick with storm team4 as we continue to update it.
