You go back to 2008, as you said, with the recession, we are talking about at that point it was just 18 . And here in our area here in the district, 35,000 children living in poverty here in washington, d. C. Thats 27 of all the kids in the district. These are numbers coming out from the annie e. Casey foundation and telling a very sobering story of what children are having to deal. It doesnt seem like the recovery has come to the children. Everybody else but them. 35,000 in d. C. 35,000 16 million nationwide. Why . Quite a few reasons. First of all, you have problems with the parents parents are not being able to get the type of jobs that they need to really sustain families. We are talking about people even working full time, but still making salaries if you want to call them that, that are well below the poverty line working fulltime hours but theres no secure employment for some of these parents. Talk to somebody about that. We did talk to somebody about that last night, as a matter of fact, on the daily drum. We had a conversation with someone who says if we are going to attack this situation we are going to have to do it in a multipronged aspect. I think what happens when we talk about social services, its either or, children or families, but this approach has to be comprehensive. We know that when we dont support the child, parents suffer and vice versa. And so when we say, you know, the financial security, child care subsidies, those are direct limb pacting the parent but that will impact the child directly.
