Nothing like a few days ago. Weve got 41 degrees by 7 oclock but by noon some sun mixing with clouds 52 degrees and by 3 oclock probably a fair amount of sunshine and a few clouds and a high of 56 and even as late as 5 oclock were probably still in the low 50s. By 7 oclock, clear skies and 48 degrees. Not too shabby out there as we go through the day. As we take a look ahead toward christmas, i know a lot of you always think, well, you know, its six days away i wonder what the weather is going to be like maybe it will be a little bit chilly and maybe even a light christmas right. Federal investigators said overnight the amtrak train that derailed in Washington State killing at least three people was going 80 Miles Per Hour in a 30 Miles Per Hour zone. The train was making its first ever run along a faster new route yesterday. It careened off an overpass about 50 miles south of seattle spilling some of its cars onto the highway below. Today will be the first full day on the scene for investigators from the National Transportation safety board. Our Investigative Team is usually on scene between seven to 10 days. And our mission is to not just understand what happened but why it happened and to recommend changes so that we can prevent another tragedy from happening again. That is where the train jumped off the tracks crashing directly onto the cars traveling on this highway below. Authorities still working trying to figure out exactly what went wrong. An Early Morning commute interrupted by chaos. Track 501. Emergency, emergency. Reporter amtrak train 501 had just left portland. The train was traveling at 80 Miles Per Hour near the curve where the speed should have been reducedper hour. Theyre requesting all possible units. Theres bodies on the freeway. Reporter 13 cars careened offer both sides of the overpass crashing onto the interstate below. Started shaking really badly. Reporter the daniel and his girlfriend were on their way to work when they saw the derailment. Oh he rushed in to help. People were in shock and a lot of them initially when they got out of the train, they just went and they sat down with their heads with their, you know, their face in the palm of their hands. Reporter the crash happened on a new line for amtrak. This train carrying its first paying customers. Just last month, in the nearby town of lakewood mayor don anderson warned about the possibility of a crash. This project was [inaudible] reporter federal report following a 2015 amtrak derailment noted a culture of safety lessons at amtrak. This positive train control idea is something that was mandated by law long ago but amtrak has been very slow to implement it. Reporter crews have been here on the scene working throughout the night. One officer telling me when he first got here he could not believe what he saw that it almost looked unreal that someone had taken toy train cars and tossed them around. Amtrak 188 went off the tracks while going into a turn at more than 100 miles an hour in may of 2015. Eight people were killed and more than 200 were injured. The ntsb investigation found the train was going more than twice the speed limit and that existing Safety Technology to automatically slow down the train could have been prevented the crash. Amtrak, as you heard, says that technology was not in use with the washington derailment, either. We will be following the latest developments for the fatal amtrak derailment on action news. Police were called to the 600 block of Oxford Street in overbrook at 8 30 last night. They found a 27yearold man in the basement of the home. He had been shot several times. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Family members were upstairs, thats when they heard the gunshots coming from the basement. They didnt realize at the time there was anybody even in the basement with their family member. Detectives are now interviewing several of those family members. A police chase in Burlington County ended in a crash that left three people dead. New Jersey State Police were chasing an suv when it crashed into a utility pole at flyatt and carranza roads in tabernacle township. Those inside the suv, two adult men and a Young Pregnant woman were all killed. Well have much more on the story in a live report coming up at 5 00 a. M. A car struck and killed a woman who somehow fell into a roadway in atlantic county, new jersey. It happened near aloe street and new orleans avenue in galloway township. The victim was walking with another woman who suffered serious but nonlifethreatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation. Happening happening today, dozens of pedestrians and cyclists will protest in center city demanding safer bike lanes. This mornings protest is in response to the death of a cyclist last month at 11th and spruce streets. The 24yearold victim was on her bike when she was hit by a private sanitation truck. Happening today, the republicans drive to deliver their tax reform package begins with a vote in the house. This bill has been talked about around the hill and the country. 2018 taxes will be cut across all incomes but the biggest tax cuts will be seen by those with much higher incomes. President donald trump is set his presidency allegislative before years end. But it does not come without controversy. Today Congress Votes on the much talked about tax bill and there are big winners and losers. The tax cuts for Corporate America are permanent while cuts for individuals come with an expiration date. A recent analysis by the Tax Policy Center a Nonpartisan Group indicates that well over half of the tax benefit in the first year will go to the top 20 percent and after the first decade the top 20 percent will get nearly all of the benefit. This while the bottom 40 percent will see a jump in their taxes. Republicans argue that these tax cuts to businesses and the wealthy will ultimately boost the economy and benefit everyone. Democrats reject that theory and are expected to unanimously rejecte bill. President donald trump insists the bill is aimed at the middle class and those americans will see a big relief.
