Its lost some of its tropical characteristics. Now, if you look at this graphic what you see in yellow these are the Tropical Storm force winds, sustained winds, they extend about 200 miles from the center of jose but jose is far enough out to sea that these sustained winds will not be reaching the coast. However, the wind gusts will so we have expected wind gusts expected along the coast 40 to 45 Miles Per Hour but since were talking about gusts, not sustained winds thats Tropical Storm watch has been canceled from the National Weather service. As you move inland its going to be a breezy day tomorrow but the winds will be dying off. So, really the big impact with jose is the wave action. The waivers really already being stirred up. Tomorrow breaking waves as high as 10 feet. Now, this will cause damaging beach erosion, also minor to moderate tidal flooding. The key time tomorrow nights high tide and dangerous rip currents continue to be a concern. That was the concern right through the weekend. It really will be for the next two days. In the meantime, the big story in the atlantic is not jose. Its this. Hurricane maria. You can see now, this is a healthy hurricane. This is now a cat four heading towards guadalupe and unfortunately heading towards the same islands that were really affected by irma including puerto rico. More on this storm coming up in the full sevenday forecast. Jim. Thank you, cecily. The concern at the jersey shore is always about the potential of flooding and it doesnt take too much of a surge to have ocean and bay water where theyre not supposed to be. Live in Atlantic City tonight, new jersey correspondent nora muchanic. Nora. Reporter hi there jim. Street flooding is a concern tomorrow at high tide as you just heard cecily mention. Erosion is a big concern, too. Jose take a look at the ocean. Jose is bringing some extremely rough surf to the shore. Take a look at these waves and theyll only get bigger as the storm gets closer. You can definitely see something coming. Its been dark all morning and a lot windy. Reporter brad and jackie were drawn to the beach off North Carolina in Atlantic City today where the powerful waves ripped up by hurricane jose is pounding the shore line. Come down this time of year when its quieter, the beach is so busy we were hoping to be able to go a little bit out in the water and relax out here. Reporter but that was not to be. The red flag is up and lifeguards have banned swimming. Its just too dangerous. Outgoing tide can suck you right out, the ingoing waves will push you right under the water and you wont get out of the water. Reporter those are waivers waves pounding against the steel pier. The waivers are a draw for people looking to are a break from the casinos. I love waves. Even at the house. Reporter its a good day for you. It sure is. I know when to go in and when to respect that. Thats what im doing respecting that. Reporter contractors are moving and securing equipment on the beach before that jose arrives. Without directly hitting new jersey, hes already done damage here scouring away several feet of beach leaving these knee high cliffs. The intense wave action is a draw for tourists. Im happy that the hurricane is not going the really hit full force here obviously but its its fun to be on the beach with the waves and everything. Reporter might not be so fun tomorrow as the waves get even bigger. A heads up to local residents who may want to move their cars tomorrow because of possible street flooding. You can park for free at the wave garage at mississippi and fairmount from now until thursday. So, thats the latest from the jersey shore. Steel pier behind me, jim, getting pounded right now and things are going to get bigger and heavier as we go into the storm tomorrow. Live in Atlantic City, im nora muchanic, channel6 action news. Jim. Thank you nora. Lets go farther south. Lets go to action News Reporter john rawlins at Rehoboth Beach. John, whats the situation in delaware . Reporter well, jim, they are watching and waiting here. The waiting is to make sure jose runs as expected up here in a northerly way and a well away from this coast. Take a look down here. High tide as you can see the tide is coming in high tide is about an hour and 15 minutes, people have been all day here watching, they wanted to come down see the rough surf that is definitely building. Jose sending pounding waves and rain hundreds of miles to Rehoboth Beach. A few swimmers braved the surf, others content to sit and watch. Lisa white husband glen and daughter taking in the storm. This is pretty minor. This is kind of weak. It seems a little weak compared to what everybody else has gone through. Fortunately. Fortunately. Reporter if jose tracks north as expected conditions will deteriorate overnight and tomorrow. The waivers will get bigger, the winds stronger and there will likely be more rain. Officials are watching the forecast but the sense is there will be little Lasting Impact with jose so far offshore. We take all storms very serious but as far as in Rehoboth Beach we dont see the concern weve had in past years with the noreasters and other hurricanes at this time. But it could always shift. Reporter theyve operated gus and gus on the boardwalk since 1956. He says hurricanes have never caused the kind of problems here compared to what a noreaster can do. I guess how rehoboth is situated i guess that angle so when it comes in, it hits hard, i mean, the storm of 62 it wasnt a hurricane, it was a noreaster and it just took out this whole building. Reporter well, certainly no expectation of that kind of damage this time. But you heard the police chief say there these storms have a tendency to shift or to wobble so everybody is watching it very, very closely. The hope is, well, the hope is at this point that it will bring wind it will bring rain, it will bring surf here, heavy surf but then jose will depart these areas very quickly. If youre going to have a hurricane nearby you want one like jose. Its a weak hurricane and its about 250 miles offshore. So, minimal impacts. But still it is concerning if you are along the coast. Lets go live on sky6. Take a look right now. Speaking of the surf, this is cape may where the surf is beginning to get whipped up thanks to hurricane jose and hurricane jose has maximum sustained winds of 75 Miles Per Hour so this is a category one hurricane. If you look at this, you can see its not a very strong system. Its actually starting to look more like a noreaster, more like an extra tropical system and what this will do is impact the coast but inland its not going to really be a big deal. The storm will stay about 200 miles offshore. That means no u. S. Landfall expected so thats a big deal. This is not a hurricane sandy. This is not a hurricane irma. Mainly the effects will be along the coast and inland. Tomorrow is generally just a breezy day. So, lets talk about the track of jose. Jose is moving north at about 10 miles an hour. Should continue this movement as a category one hurricane by wednesday afternoon, beginning to make that turn a little bit more northeast and moves into cooler waters, it becomes a Tropical Storm and then it looks like it will be doing a little bit of a loop as we head into the weekend as a tropical depression, it could meander out there for awhile as a weak storm but then on tuesday when it passes from the jersey shore, we are talking about more than 200 miles off the coast. So, the sustained Tropical Storm force winds will not be making it towards the coast at all. Stays out to sea. Thats good news. Right now temperatures in the 70s philadelphia, 77 degrees. We did make it up to 81 degrees today. Wilmington 77. Cape may 74. And allentown 74. So, satellite and radar showing that we are beginning to see the outer cloud bands of jose starting to get closer to the shore. The rain still offshore but the rain will begin to move in as we head into the morning. But future tracker really showing the rain is right along the coast. It kind of evaporates as it moves inland. By 6 30 in the Morning Light rain along the coast, around lunchtime its heavier but not moving much farther inland from about central new jersey, interior central new jersey. Philadelphia could get a few sprinkles but mainly that rain right along the coast. So, to break it down, tomorrows weather, really depends on where you are. If youre along the coast, its not a nice day. Were looking at sustained winds 50 to 30 miles an hour, gusting up to about 45 Miles Per Hour. It will be a rainy day, about a quarter inch to 1 inch of rain. Inland, though, winds only gusting up to about 35 Miles Per Hour. Less than a quarter inch of rain and if you live in the north and west suburbs, youll actually see some sunshine. The big story is hurricane maria. This is a cat four hurricane. This is moving through dominica right now and this looks to be worse for puerto rico than irma, a direct strike as a cat four hurricane. Puerto rico by thursday and then heading towards the turks and Caicos Islands also very affected by irma and then beginning to make a turn at this point too early to tell what its impacts would be in the mainland u. S. The exclusive accuweather 7day forecast, tomorrow windy and rainy along the coast, 77 degrees and then look what happens. The warm weather is back. 85 degrees on wednesday. 86 on thursday.
