ROCKFORD — Investigations into two recent shootings by Winnebago County Sheriff's Department deputies and a Rockford Police Department officer could take another four to six months to conclude, officials said Thursday.
Detectives from area departments assigned to the Winnebago-Boone County Integrity Task Force are investigating the fatal April 10 shooting of Faustin Guetigo, 27, and the non-fatal April 11 shooting of Jose Gonzalez, 19. Their findings will help Winnebago County State's Attorney J. Hanley determine if the shootings were lawful.
Hanley stressed that information he has released, and videos released by the respective law enforcement agencies, was part of an effort to be as transparent as possible. He said authorities understanding of what occurred could change as more information is revealed.
