Wild Heart: Stories build community

It’s now been a year since I began this weekly column. I am grateful for the opportunity. When I suggested the idea to Jean Ann Miller, our tireless editor, she readily embraced it. The idea was based on a radio show that I used to host in Asheville, NC, called Wild Heart. I interviewed people in the community, inviting them to share their stories—their dreams and challenges, their way of life.
As with this column, it was a weekly endeavor. It kept me on task, finding a guest for each show. Only once, did someone not show up. I’d had a funny feeling before I left for the station that day and so grabbed my binder of poetry in case I might need it.
