Unpaid rent: State lawmakers looking for a deal to protect renters from evictions
Even though California's economy officially reopened June 15, many around the Bay Area and around the state are still reeling from economic impacts of COVID-19. For many, that means difficulty coming up with rent. The state has a deal in place to prevent evictions for those who can't pay, that deal expires June 30th.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - In the nick of time, Gov. Gavin Newsom and the Legislature extended an eviction moratorium designed to keep California tenants who missed rent payments in their homes during the 15-month coronavirus pandemic.
