You love your community, and you want to see more of it in your newspaper. Less national content. Fewer mistakes.
I would love to double the newsroom staff and make all of those wishes come true, but like any company — or family — we must live within our means.
Still, there are things we can change, and we are. We gained a reporter — a very strong, experienced reporter who knows the region — when Jon Webb stepped away from being a columnist. We've made internal changes to give our reporters more editing support.
And everyone on the staff has been challenged to aim higher. The pandemic has made the past 12 months difficult for almost everybody, including journalists. In my lifetime there has never been so much news to cover, day in and day out, and at the same time so many barriers to covering it.
