Coronavirus restrictions created a difficult year for English as second language learners at West York Area High School. ESL teacher Bethany Rodriguez organized an outdoor picnic and a flag creating art exercise Wednesday to brighten up her windowless classroom at the school.
“I try to do something for students at the end of the year, and this has been so difficult,” Rodriguez said, referring to the added layer of difficulty this semester for English language students working from homes where English isn’t commonly spoken. Typically, in a year before the coronavirus, in-person learning at school provided language immersion.
