The whitman and the betsy ross bridge also. 295 in penns grove, also the tractor trailer fire. Theyre diverting traffic off. Snow has been coming down for hours here. Shore points could see the highest totals of up to 12 inches. Were in Atlantic City. When we last saw you not long ago the snow was falling. It was windy. We saw some clouds. Conditions have clearly gotten worse where you are. Reporter clearly and if theres one thing thats pretty much changed dramatically since about 5 00 this morning when we saw you for the first time its definitely the wind. Its picking up so its blowing this very wet snow all over the place here in Atlantic City. Of course weve seen police and fire out, some of the postal service, but very few people. I did just bump into sam avis. You are a trooper. You are headed to work this morning. I know youre layered up. Tell me what it took to get you out and about. This morning, coming out here, this was crazy. I was going to call out but i can make it down there. Are you walking or how are you making it to work . Were walking out in the middle of the street. And you work at a Sandwich Shop . Yeah. Do you have soup . Yeah, coffee and all that. You are a definite trooper. Sam of Atlantic City, hes out here and hes getting to work out in this mess this morning. You can see that the snow is accumulating. I cant even see where i made this clearing but its covered up right now so theres a good four inches on the ground. At least three to four inches on the ground here in Atlantic City. The snow is coming down. We can still see the bright lights of the casino, so not blizzard conditions yet, but youre going to layer up. Back to you. Thanks for that. Moving to delaware now, matt is live for us in new castle. Matt, a little bit of a different condition where you are from what we saw in sydneys camera. Reporter right. We have not seen too much wet snow here and we also havent seen too much snow falling in new castle within the last hour or so. Its just really the blowing snow that were seeing right now and a little bit of that ground. If you take a look at the ground you can see that it is that snow, light and fluffy that is easily able to be brushed off the car. That is the good thing if you have to go to work today. This is route 13 here in new castle where you can see it mostly just looks wet, but it is treated. We have seen the del dot trucks and all the private salt trucks throughout the other roadways in the state. As we were making our way down here this morning and also within the past couple of hours since we have been at our location here in new castle so they have been very busy. We heard from the del dot Spokes Person just under an hour ago. He said they have 400 trucks and pieces of immaterial request th equipment that are working right now. And all state offices are closed until 4 30 this afternoon. So we also have the cancellations with schools that are underway as well, so right now the official total here in new castle is about half an inch so far and you can see that right here along the sidewalk, but again, the bigger issue is that wind. And it really feels very strong at times. We have seen the gusts here. Reaching up top about 15 miles an hour, but when its this cold and snow blowing in your face it hurts and stings a little bit, so try to limit your time outdoors. If you dont have to go outside, dont go out altogether. Thats good advice, matt. Thank you. Now, todays storm is affecting air travel. A live look at Philadelphia International airport where light snow is falling right now. They just tweeted that more than 100 flights are cancelled. So if you have travel plans be sure to check with your airlines before heading to the airport. Philadelphia is under a snow emergency which means all parked cars have to be moved off those snow emergency routes for plowing. Overnight we found traffic officers ticketing cars along south broad street. The city will tow cars parked there later this morning. The cape may ferry will not be running today. This is the last trip it made last night before cancelling through today. Cancelled service for today because of the large chunks of ice you see there in the water and the severe wind conditions. Not everybody is going to get the worst that this storm will bring, but we will all see accumulating snow and were all going to be in for some treacherous travel. It doesnt take a lot of snow to make for some slippery conditions. Blizzard conditions expected in southern delaware and the jersey shore. Later on today, blowing snow and bitter cold to follow. Look at the snow falling right now in philadelphia. Thats fairly light snow in philadelphia and even lighter in some of the suburbs though in the Lehigh Valley and theres a band of some more moderate snow. The heaviest snow is going to be in delaware and south jersey closer to the coastline. This is an ocean storm system so the closer you are to the storm, the heavier for the precipitation. Weve already gotten reports from southern delaware and five inches of snow on the ground and more than two inches in parts of south jersey. And it is just getting started. The temperatures stay cold. The snow is going to stay on the ground. With a look at delaware and south jersey, what you can expect neighborhood by neighborhood. So lets get right to it and talk about those conditions outside. This is in Atlantic City and you can see that snow is already starting to blow around a bit this morning and thats going to be the case right on through the rest of today. Lets go to our future cast here hour by hour. Really diving into one of our neighborhoods and that would be the delaware beaches, southern delaware and the jersey shore. Really its about the coloration of our contour here. This is showing where the steadier snow is. The deeper the blue the heavier the snow and its right where were expecting it against the shoreline. With those strong winds coming from the north, that worry of low visibility and blowing snow. Temperatures stay below freezing all day. This is at 11 00 a. M. And its heavier against parts of the jersey shore. Once we get to 1 30 in the afternoon, farther to the north and west, dover starting to see a lighter snow but its still fairly steady against the shoreline. It starts to fall apart and move out by this evening, but heres the problem. With those very cold roadways and cold conditions today, everything sticks in stacks and then can blow around as we do expect those gusts to get stronger into the afternoon. In fact, gusts upwards of 50 Miles Per Hour are certainly possible at the shore. That is why a blizzard warning has been put in place. This is shaded in red that you see here from ocean county all the way down to Sussex County. What does a blizzard warning mean . Blowing snow with winds of greater than 35 Miles Per Hour and visibility of less than a quarter of a mile for at least three hours. We havent hit this yet but well let you know if we do. Thanks for the update. Its about a quarter to 6 00 right now and we want to talk about what the roads look like down the shore where a lot were concentrating a lot of our cameras and a lot of our information because theyre expected to get some of the worst of this. Jessica boyington has been watching those conditions. Were watching shore road right around route 50. So difficult to see as its a little dark outside but you can see only white. You cant even see the roads anymore. Not a lot of cars moving through the area which is a good thing because we are seeing a lot of snow starting to accumulate there. Its sticking on the surfaces of the road and into the shoulders as well. The fire is out on the tractor trailer fire. 295. Theyre diverting you off. The way to get around that right now, 130 or take the new jersey turnpike. Looks like a little bit of a slowdown with some of that delay and some of that detour around the new jersey turnpike, so watching some of that and ill end here with this crash in upper moreland right around Church Street. Im live in storm force 10 with our cameras trained on the roads here in south jersey. Coming up next well take a look at what it looks like. Tracking severe Winter Weather this morning. Taking a live Winter Weather right now outside at camden new jersey. You cant even see whats in front of that camera there. Its been snowing in camden since midnight. Were live in south jersey inside storm force 10 right now going through glostucester coun. We were in Camden County about an hour ago. It wasnt really blowing that much then. Since then weve made our way south. Were here at the mall and i wanted to slow yhow you that bl snow. Is snow is starting to pick up as that wind starts to pick up. Were going to make a uturn and try to get on one of the main roads. This is what drivers are going to be dealing with over the next few hours. Snow blowing it on to their windshields making it tough to see. Another thing we have seen a lot of which is good news is salt. Its really crunchy out on those main roads. The main highways are looking good. Those salt crews and plow trucks have been working since midnight. We see a big crew of them over here. Theyre meeting here waiting to go back out on the roads. If we take a look here now at the main roeads, they are coverd with snow. This is going to be a busy area as rush hour picks up and people head to work. A lot of retail shops, restaurants in this part of town so this is the conditions out on those main roads and they are starting to get a bit more covered with snow as weve seen in the past hour or so. But the news youre going to want to look for in the next hour as you head to work is that blowing snow. The visibility is bad as youre driving especially at higher speeds. Im bill henley. Check out this view from avalon, new jersey. You can barely make out the ocean. You see a few lights in the distance. Cant see much of the beach. The visibility as come way down as the snow has intensified and the wind has picked up and its even lower in millville. Reporting zero visibility. The visibility is a great indication of the snow intensity, the heavier the snowfall, the lower the visibility. And these numbers will likely go lower this morning and we could still be in for some low visibilities during the day as the winds will be with us during the day. The end withes right now are steady at 20 Miles Per Hour. Millville, 28mileperhour winds in dover and 24mileperhour winds in Atlantic City, but the gusts have been getting close to the 40mileperhour mark for dover. 37mileperhour gusts in Atlantic City so its going to be a snowy and windy day. The snow thats coming down has been heavier at the shore as expected and in southern delaware and the rest of the area. But that will spread moderate snowfall into philadelphia and the suburbs. You can see its a little bit heavier, that one band coming through reading and allentown. So theres a lot more of this storm to come. Breaking it down hour by hour, crystal has an update. Yeah, a lot more to come means a lot more to stack on up over the next few hours. This is a live view from south philly. Those Wind Turbines are spinning around here. Lets talk snow totals out there. We tyreked this just a bit this morning. Still the heaviest amounts along the delaware beaches. If we drop down into neighborhood to neighborhood outlook you can see Sussex County split between 8 to 12 inches and 4 to 8 inches as we slice into parts of kent county. Same deal. Highest amounts brush the shore and a big changeover to about the i95 corridor. Mays landing, 4 to 8 inches. Philadelphia up to 4 to 6 inches of snow and parts of new castle county, split. Same for philly, split. King of prussia at 2 to 4 inches and you see that slicing into lower amounts. Regardless we all get some snow so lets go through the hour by hour for you. Still a pretty good steady snow to heavy along the shoreline. Intensity will start to pick up to around the i95 corridor this morning. Then the intensity is going to pull back and you see we have almost no snow left over the suburbs, Lehigh Valley and burks county and then from 5 00 to 7 00 everything is out here. Were left with very cold temperatures tonight and that cold sticks. Heres the projection. Friday, saturday, sunday. Both friday and saturday across the almost entire board, highs are only in the teens. All right. Thanks for that. 7 before 6 00. We are watching the Road Conditions carefully for you this morning. Right now focused on north philadelphia. Weve been busy throughout the morning keeping track of any crashes, any road closures. What are things looking like in north philly . Looks like theyre starting to see some snow there. Right and castor avenue. It looks a little better in the center. But the snow is accumulating on to the hard surfaces and ern when theyre treated as well were starting to see that accumulation. Moreland road right around Church Street and watching an accident on 309 just near the southbound side. Right around butler pike so watching that on route 309. Another crash and a tractor trailer fire in penns grove. Weve been watching this all morning long. Right around route 48 and its still closed right around exit 4. So 130 is an option for you and so is the new jersey turnpike. Police and firefighters are on the scene of a tractor trailer fire. The truck crashed in penns grove and caught fire. All the southbound lanes are closed right now. We will check conditions across new jersey on the roads there coming up next. Stay with us. ,000 deaths in america last year. We need to stand up and say enough. The only way this problem is going to be solved is if we raise our voices. Choose help over helplessness, hope over hopelessness. Make sure that the lives weve lost will not have been lost in vain. Addiction is a disease. When you ask for help, help is there for you. Parts of the jersey shore are expected to see the worst of this winter storm today. Lets check in with steve whos on the phone with us. I know your crews have been out all night. What are you hearing about the conditions right now . Reporter conditions are definitely worse along the coast. Steady snow east of route 9 and weve got about 1,500 plows and spreaders out statewide, but mostly concentrated in south jersey and central jersey. Talk about some of the speed restrictions on some of your majors. We know the garden state parkway has reduced speed for drivers. The speed limit has been reduced to 35 Miles Per Hour from cape may all the way up through the county and also the delaware Memorial Bridge has a 35mileperhour speed restriction. And its definitely different conditions. We do neighborhood weather because its different and your crews are facing different conditions too whether they might be closer to the shore or north ward. Yeah, absolutely. This is a storm that is going to have varying conditions no matter where you are depending on how far out to sea it stays. And like i said were seeing the heaviest snowfall along the shore, but we do have our crews activated statewide and were prepared ifffor heavy snow throughout the state. Be cautious out there driving. Give the crews plenty of room to work as the roads stay clear and safe for everyone driving today. Always bears repeating. Thanks so much for the update.
