Falling. Mother nature has already made a mark on the shore. Snow covers the boardwalk here in ocean city. This morning well take you live all around our region as we track the conditions where you live. Plenty happening on this saturday. Thanks for being with us. Good morning. This is nbc10 news today. Im rosemary connors. And im dray clark. It is now 6 01 to be precise on this saturday morning. And we have issued a first alert as we track snow that will be spreading across the region this morning and throughout the day. Here is a live look at conditions in cape may right now. Its been snowing here since yesterday actually. And we do have Team Coverage this morning. First alert meteorologist bill henley and krystal klei are keeping watch of the track of the storm, the snow totals that are expected neighborhood by neighborhood. And we begin with bill. Yeah, and we did expect that snow to accumulate at the shore and in southern delaware to begin with. And it is going to spread across the rest of the area. Our first alert is in effect for the first snow of the season for the entire area. Its going to be spreading in during the morning hours. But the first alert is until midnight tonight, late tonight, thats when this one will really taper off. During the day thats when well see slowly accumulating snow. The snow arrives this morning. And then a steady snow for just about everybody this afternoon. That will give us potential by the time it tapers off late tonight of 2 to 6 inches on, especially on those colder surfaces in delaware and south jersey. Thats where were expecting the highest totals. But slippery travel youll probably run into some of that as well especially late tonight as the temperatures will be dropping. Right now were seeing the rain and snow to our south. This is all part of the same storm system thats going to be swinging in during the day today. Were already seeing snow on and off in southern delaware and into cape may. It hasnt been steady snow all night, but this is where were getting the first accumulation in our area. Move inland and radar is starting to show some snow. Thats not reaching the ground yet. Its falling into drier air. And temperatures in philadelphia and wilmington are still above freezing. But north and west its already turning colder. So once the snow moves in, it is likely to be accumulating. In the suburbs right now just below freezing in west bradford, unionville also at 31 degrees. And very low 30s at or below freezing as you head out the door for most neighborhoods with just a couple of exceptions this morning. So its cold enough for that snow to stick. And it will be moving in to the suburbs and the Lehigh Valley as well. With the timing of that, meteorologist krystal klei is will take you through it hour by hour. Krystal. Yeah, bill, lets dive right into parts of pennsylvania suburbs and Lehigh Valley and berks county. Hour by hour model notice around 10 00 a. M. , just around 10 00 a. M. , 11 00 a. M. The snow shrine extends into areas like Mercer County into bucks county as well as montgomery and Chester County and up farther north in the Lehigh Valley and berks not yet seeing any snow at 10 00 a. M. Temperatures though will be right around freezing so they will support snow once it makes its way through. This is a very light snow to start around 10 00 a. M. Now were at 11 00 a. M. To your lunchtime around noon were starting to see those snowflakes falling over the northern most parts of our viewing area, even a few flakes over mt. Poconos right at freezing at 32 degrees at that hour. This continues through 1 00. In fact, this is the point in time we think the snow may tick up a bit in its rate meaning instead of a very light fluff that is falling you might see a steadier snow periodically falling throughout the entire area. Thats what the deeper blue indicates. And that continues through about 6 00, 7 00. Thats when things start to thin out notably over the Lehigh Valley and berks as well as Chester County and it pulls out of here into the nighttime hours which is why the first alert we cancel at midnight. Lets talk snow totals for our area. Well do this wide view right now and in just a bit ill break this down neighborhood by neighborhood. The wide view shows in areas Like Northern most parts of the Lehigh Valley and berks just 1 to 3 inches. Suburbs and Lehigh Valley 2 to 4 inches and higher amounts 4 to 6 inches over south jersey and central delaware, southern most parts of delaware 4 to 8 inches. Those areas have already in some spots seen up to 4 to 5. Well talk more about that as welcoming up in just a few minutes. All right, thank you, krystal. Lets go back to the jersey shore now where the snow started falling yesterday afternoon throughout the night and now theres accumulation on the ground this morning. Nbc10 Jersey Shore Bureau reporter Ted Greenberg is live in rio grande, middle township. Ted, looks like were getting a bit of a break from the snowfall right now. Reporter a little bit of a break, rosemary and dray, good morning. Just a few very, very light flakes i see coming downright now. I dont know if theyre visible on camera, but i can see them in the street lights. Yes, this is the rio grande section of middle township. Looking pretty wintry right here. The snow yesterday had no problem accumulating on colder surfaces like bushes, trees right here and grass as well. We have a couple inches, at least a couple inches on the grass. But when you walk over to the road, the pavement, it is black. Just too warm for the snow to accumulate and stick. This is the intersection of route 9 and route 47 here in the rio grande section of middle township. Weve been seeing road crews out this morning. Take a look at some video that we got on the garden state parkway. You can see trucks out there this morning. They are spreading salt working to keep the highways safe just in case the snow starts sticking later on today, as we have been hearing from bill and krystal, that is likely. But right now you want to just take it easy onn the roads. Theres a speed limit reduction on the garden state parkway, 45 miles an hour, that is because of the salting operations. You want to give those Truck Drivers plenty of space to get their job done to keep the highways safe. Might have to spend a little extra time brushing off the car this morning if youre here in Cape May County, middle township, lower township, the wildwood cape may, but otherwise no major problems. Live in middle township, im Ted Greenberg, nbc10 news. Thanks for that, ted. Many people across the region have stocked up on salt, as you heard ted say. People are going to be salting their sidewalks, driveways, others grabbed groceries last night so they wont have to leave the house today. If you need a few things, maybe some cookie baking mix, one of those kind of days, you still have a few hours to shop before the snow starts in some areas and picks up in others. And please make sure you download the free nbc10 app so you can track snow totals. You can see our interactive radar right down to your neighborhood. In addition to the wintry weather this weekend, were also following some breaking news out of the kent county, delaware. State police are investigating a deadly shooting at a traffic stop. Were learning that a trooper fired his weapon. Nbc10 delaware Bureau Reporter tim furlong is live in dover with more on the investigation. Reporter yeah, rosemary, little snow is starting to fall on the scene here at kent and fieldstone. This is a townhouse complex just outside downtown dover where about 3 30 this Morning Police were involved in a traffic stop, one delaware state trooper. We understand two people were in the car though witnesses were telling me there was a third person in the car. We can confirm one of the people in the car was shot by the treeper and died on his way to the hospital. Another trooper was taken another person was taken to the hospital with a smaller gunshot wound. You can see on the scene police are examining exactly what happened. Theyre checking for evidence. Theyve been scouring the area on the other side of the saturn that was involved in this shooting to see looking for shell casings and other evidence at this point. The state Police Spokesperson just arrived here on the scene a couple minutes ago. Hes gathering more information for us. Obviously there are a lot of questions about this, did these people fire at the trooper first, what made the trooper pull over this car in the first place and where were they coming from, where were they going to, questions like that. So were going to continue to gather more information. As we get that information well be sure to bring it to you. Again, we can report this morning confirmed one person was killed here in dover in a policeinvolved shooting with the delaware state police. Tim furlong, nbc10 news. Very active scene, thanks, tim. 6 09 on this saturday, we are tracking the snow that will cover our region this weekend. This is going to be an allday event. Youre looking lifeve at center city skyline in philadelphia. No wet weather here yet, but trust us, its on the way. Our coverage continues throughout the morning. Do you need the most trusted battery this holiday . Maybe not. Maybe, you could trust the world would be just as happy without them. screaming or, you could just trust duracell. Its beginning to look a lot like christmas im meteorologist bill henley. It has been a snowy scene in southern delaware at the shore. This is ocean city, new jersey. The snow has taken a break. You can see some light accumulation on the boardwalk as Ted Greenberg in south jersey has been mentioning. Its those colder surfaces, the grass and some railings and the boardwalk that have seen some accumulation. So far though most of the rest of the area is dry. Look at the linc. This is a live view. Got the Army Navy Game today. Ironically theyve got the ground covered, the field will probably be uncovered just as snow really gets started later this morning and this afternoon at lincoln financial field. The system is to our south, but it is going to ride up the east coast. And it will be intensifying as the morning progresses. Now, you heard tim furlong just mention some very light snow just over dover. This is the first bit of snow that is reaching into delaware and starting to reach into new jersey as well. Very light scattered snow showers. The steadier snow has been on and off moving through southern delaware. Thats going to continue in the shortterm, but eventually its going to spread into the rest of the area as well. And those areas that are completely dry this morning just seeing clouds overhead. Youre going to get snow as well. Will it impact the game . Its going to be a steady light snow. And the temperatures will be above freezing just at the 33 degree mark at 3 00 as the game begins. Halftime 33, northerly winds at 8 miles an hour. Thats going to bring temperatures or keep temperatures cool through the game time and into this evening. Well still see steady snowfall in the area around 7 00 this evening. If youre coming home from the game, youre more likely to run into some slippery roads than when youre heading to the game. Dray. All right, thank you, bill. Hey, well be tracking todays snow throughout the day right here on nbc10 and on the free nbc10 app. This is video from cape may where it started snowing last night. And were following the storms track from the shore to philadelphia and to the suburbs. Trust me, nbc10 has you covered. Were on a mission to show drip coffee drinkers, its time to wake up to keurig. Wakey wakey rise and shine oh my gosh how are you . Well watch this. I pop that in there. Press brew. Thats it. So rich. I love it. Thats why you should be a keurig man fullbodied. Are you sure youre describing the coffee and not me . Youve worked hard. Busted tail. And impressed the boss. Maybe its time to be your own . Transform your career with strayer universitys mba program today. Lets get it. Just after 6 00 right now on this saturday. We are tracking wintry weather this weekend. This is a live look at beach avenue in cape may. You can see nobody out there this morning. Thats a good thing because, well, maybe one car passing this morning getting up and doing a few errands. The roads a little wet out there. Obviously the snow is sticking to the colder surfaces as meteorologist bill henley has been telling us. So on your lawn, maybe on your driveway, but the roads by and large have been treated. However, this is more or less the first snowfall of the season so take it easy when you head out there. Todays snow could make for a very messy and perhaps memorable Army Navy Game at lincoln financial field. Yeah. Heres our eagles nest camera. Theyre all ready for the big kickoff. Fans will be watching cadets and midshipmen do battle inside the linc. Nbc10s Randy Gyllenhaal is live outside the linc getting ready. Its early, but youve already ran into some fans, right . Reporter i dont know why theyre out here already, but tailgate has begun. Kickoff is at 3 00 and by that point we could see snow coming down at a pretty good clip if youre coming down for the game or the actual tailgating, you might want to take the broad street line to avoid slick roads and slick parking lots, but i can tell you crews have been working overnight. You can see the salt out here on the tailgate sidewalks and parking lots. And weve seen some snow removal crews getting ready. Lets take you back in time to 2013 here at the linc. Navy beating army 347. It was a blowout amid some blowing snow on the field. Fans at that game had to bundle up. You can expect similar conditions out there today. And already this morning as we mentioned fans up early dressed in layers ready for some winter football. Yeah, i mean. I have like five shirts on. Were ready. So ready. Even if it snows, going to be good. Army navy, nothing beats that. If it snows, it snows, you know . Yeah, go baby reporter he said cold is a myth. I dont think thats accurate. Well see how he feels in the fourth quarter. Take a look at this the game ball making its way to the stadium. The ball is on a 130mile journey from annapolis to philly. Members of the Naval Academy 13th company are literally running the ball to the game. They just passed through media, Delaware County, few more miles to go. Back here live a live look at espns college gameday. Fans will line up there to get on tv shortly. I can hear some fans chanting in the tailgate lot so even here at 6 00 a. M. Things are starting to get heated on wlahats going toe a pretty cold day. For now live at the linc, Randy Gyllenhaal, nbc10 news. Im meteorologist bill henley. I think most of the fans are not even going to notice the snow thats going to come down during the game and for much of the afternoon. The first snow, well, that as expected fell at cape may and in southern delaware. You can see its sticking to those colder surfaces, rooftops, not so much the roadways in cape may. But we do expect the temperatures to drop during the day, so youre more likely to see snow sticking to the roadways in philadelphia as those temperatures fall this afternoon. So far no snowfall in philadelphia, but it may not be much longer before we see the snow move in. The snow arrives this morning already starting to move up from the south. Some scattered light snow showers this morning. The steadier snow is due in for the afternoon and continuing into the early evening hours. Then later in the evening snow will taper off. Some slippery roads though, it may be tough for the snow to stick in the shortterm this morning once the temperatures start to drop some this afternoon youll see more sticking to the roadways. And then tonight if it hasnt been treated or cleared, well see some icing overnight as temperatures will get colder. All right, radar is showing some wet weather starting to move into the Lehigh Valley and berks county. This is not reaching the ground just yet, but thats not going to take much longer to change. You can see light snow showing up on the radar in delaware and now into cumberland and salem counties in new jersey. Ted furlong is on the ground in dover and hes reporting some very the first snowflakes, this is not by any means heavy. In fact, most of it is not even reaching the ground just yet, but thats going to change. Theres a lot more moisture on the way as this system is centered offshore, the carolinas, going to be riding up the coast. So as the day goes on youre going to see the snow spread across the area. Timing of the snow is the key. Meteorologist krystal klei has been following it closely this morning. Krystal. Yeah, and, bill, this is a daylong event. This is really just starting to ramp up. If you look out the window this morning and think i dont see anything outside, give it a few hours, things will be changing throughout the morning. And then in the afternoon is when you really feel the effects. This is the hour by hour model were looking at. We zoom in tight to our neck of the woods and from the poconos all the way down to cape may you see numbers in the 30s throughout our morning. And then pretty much going to stay right where they are throughout the entire day. So starting at 10 00 a. M. We start to see that snow line increasing to the north, meaning a few flakes start to mix in over philly, mt. Holly, wilmington. As bill just showed you a few may already be falling in parts of wilmington, but steadier stuff is going to extend in the lay morni lat late morning hours. It slices right off at the poconos so this is really just an ent event for our neighborhoods here as we go through noon. Notice blues are more steady over jersey and philly than say farther north. That will continue to be the case through 4 00 in the afternoon. The deeper the blue, the steadier the snow, meaning better chance of higher accumulation. From 4 00 though were still looking at the whole region with a potential for light sn snow falling throughout. Now 6 00, notice that white color, the thinning of the snow farther kn farther north. This is where its going to come to an end for Chester County, berks county, Lehigh Valley. From 6 00 through about 10 00 now its starting to weaken and fall apart all the way down to philly. That snow line, there you go, its out of here by around midnight. But that means for areas like cape may this was basically a 24hour event of snow on and off. And then overnight staying quite cold, which means overnight into early sunday morning slick roads may freeze over, Something Else to watch. Snow totals that have already come in, delmar, delaware, 5. 5 inches. Laurel, 4. 5 inches. Cape may county, 3 inches. These are nurms were already seeing. With southern delaware you see the 4 to 8 inch range. As we go into parts of new jersey and central delaware, that pink color, that indicates the 4 to 6 inches that we will see lower amounts farther north. Well get to those coming up in the next half hour. Well see you shortly. Thanks for that, krystal. 6 22 right now on this what will be snowy saturday as you saw krystal show us just a moment ago. Some already seeing some snow. One of those spots down the shore. This is the boardwalk in ocean city. You can see theres already a coating of snow out there. And guess what, while theres a lull in the snowfall right now, it will be back throughout the day. Stay with us as we follow the storms path. Toasting dad im not one for speeches. But heres to. Actually, you might see a coating of white, but thats salt because del dot been out all night long making sure the roads are covered so when the flakes do start falling that we will be covered to make sure you are safe out and about there this morning. No matter how much snow falls, its definitely not going to stop todays Army Navy Game in south philadelphia. Obviously the eagles out west to take on the rams tomorrow so theyre opening lincoln financial field to the midshipmen and cadets. Kickoff at 3 00 this afternoon. You see that covering on the field right now . Thats to try to keep it dry. However, as meteorologist bill henley and krystal klei have been telling us, that snow is going to be with us throughout the day. Right now nothing falling, but just wait, its coming. Nbc10 of course is your official eagles station and we will be covering the primetime matchup with the eagles and rams tomorrow. We start at 9 30 in the morning with Eagles Gameday kickoff and eagles plan at 10 00. And join us sunday night football for recap. 6 27 on this saturday. We are tracking wintry weather this weekend. Mentioned snow allday event here. Yeah, nbc10s Ted Greenberg is live in Cape May County where the snow started falling yesterday. What are you seeing this morning . Reporter were starting to see it comie downright now and already its piled up quite a bit in some spots. A live report straight ahead. Thats some very light snowfall in teds live shot. You can see it on the radar. And its just starting to spread into delaware and south jersey. The first snowflakes of the season are falling. And overnight, yeah, a lightly accumulating snow ocean city. Thats a live view from the boardwalk. The boardwalk, those colder surfaces getting accumulation while the roadways are just wet. 6 27, 36 degrees, your neighborhood forecast, your first alert just ahead. For mildtomoderate eczema . Break out those shovels, get them ready. Well see some measurable snowfall. In fact theres already a few inches on the ground in some spots. Families will be clearing off driveways and sidewalks as crews work to keep those roads safe. And live look at lincoln financial field. Football is in the snow and in the air. The Army Navy Game returns to philly today. Expect snowy conditions at the linc when kickoff happens later on today. Good morning and welcome to nbc10 news today. Im dray clark. And im rosemary connors. Thanks for being with us. Plenty to get to. Its 6 30 on this saturday. The snow is already falling in parts of our region. Some of it started late yesterday. There was a lull, now its picking back up. We are tracking the storm as it moves inland. Here is a live look at i95 in wilmington. You can see traffic moving smoothly, nothing falling at the moment. Dry out there. It is going to change. So if you are looking out your window right now saying, wait a minute, wheres the snow, its only 6 30. Just past 6 30 in the morning, this is going to be an allday event. And we have live Team Coverage. Yeah, first alert meteorologist bill henley and krystal klei are following the track of the storm and the accumulations expected neighborhood by neighborhood. Lets start this morning with bill. Yeah, we got a layer of salt on the ground, but snow is starting to move into the area. Our first alert for the first snow is for the entire area. Though its moving into some areas and neighborhoods this morning to start with, everyone will get it during the day today. And its going to be an allday event. The first alert in effect for now until midnight tonight. And during the day slowly accumulating snow. So its going to be a steady light snow late this morning and this afternoon. But over time well get that accumulation of 2 to 6 inches. Those higher totals will be on grassy surfaces and delaware and south jersey. But there will be some colder temperatures too. Slippery travel, you can count on that later today. If youre out and about first thing this morning wont be too bad. Theres still a lot of this storm left to our south, but it is intensifying as it comes up the coast. So were seeing the snow fill back in after a break first thing this morning in southern delaware and into south jersey. But now were seeing the first snowflakes in central delaware and starting to move into New Castle County, cumberland and salem counties in new jersey and gloucester seeing a little bit of snow showing up on the radar. Its not going to be long before we see snow for the entire area moving in. Current during the day the temperatures will be moving down. Right now its borderline. Its just above freezing. Look at all the locations at 33 degrees while its 35 in marshallton. So that means were going to see the snow stick to the grass and colder surfaces before it starts sticking to the roads. The temperatures will be dropping during the day. So youll see changes during the day for each part of our area. Breaking it down, meteorologist krystal klei on what you can expect. Krystal. Yeah, bill, were going to take a look at parts of delaware and southern most portions of jersey or Cape May County into parts of cumberland and atlantic county. These are areas where the snow has been falling throughout the night. We already have in some spots a few inches that have collected out there. As we go from this morning through about 11 30 a. M. , that snow really starts to fill in across the board. So that means that the lighter stuff presses farther north and the steadier stuff starts to fall right over southern delaware. So areas that are just starting to get a few flakes as bill just showed you looking more steady, snow by the late morning hours. Notice the temperature in dover at 34 degrees. What that means is it may be a wet or heavier snow, but its not heavy in terms of it falling down heavy. Just means its a damp snow itself. The snow will be falling steady though by around 11 30. Thats extended all the way up the jersey shore through 4 00 in the afternoon. Again, that blue color indicates that steadier snowfall. A more consistent throughout the afternoon hours. Then we get into the evening. This is about 7 30. Notice its starting to weaken over delaware. That lighter color indicates lighter snow falling and this will clear into the night. Well track that for you through all neighborhoods in a bit. Thank you, krystal. As they just told us some neighborhoods already have a few inches on the ground, some on the shore saw snowfall last night. Nbc10 jersey Bureau Reporter Ted Greenberg is on the ground reporting for us. Ted, for a moment there it looked like it was starting to snow again. Reporter it is, dray and rosemary. When we saw you about half an hour ago at the top of the hour we really werent seeing much at all. Just very, very light snow. Now its coming down a little bit harder, as you can see. And this is what we have on the ground, on the grass, a couple inches right here on the bushes as well. This is the result of the snow starting to fall last night and through much of the overnight hours. This is the intersection of route 9 and route 47 the rio grande section of middle township. You can see no major problems here on the roads though, the surfaces just pretty much too warm for the snow to stick and accumulate. Pavement is primarily wet right here. Weve been seeing people with snow on top of their cars, yeah, you have to brush them off if youre in this area. I talked with one guy a short time ago from cape may courthouse, he had to brush the snow off the car this morning. But hes not complaining. In fact, hes heading out into the snowy woods right now. Im loving it. Im going deer hunting. Reporter you dont mind hunting out there in the snow . Absolutely not. I love it. My familys from minnesota. So snow and weather is what we deal with. Reporter so this weather that were dealing with right now is really nothing for kelly and his family. One thing to keep in mind if youre heading out on to the garden state parkway here this morning in Cape May County, the speed limit has been reduced to 45 Miles Per Hour because of active salting operations that are under way right now. Live in middle township, Ted Greenberg, nbc10 news. Thank you, ted. Lets take a live look at philly International Airport this morning. We learn crews began preparations for snow last night. And they are ready to clear the runways if necessary. We checked the flight board as well and it looks like there are no cancellations or holdups right now. But of course that could change with the snow moving in later on this morning. However, the airport says you need to check directly with your airline before you leave the house to catch your flight. Be sure to download the free nbc10 app if its not on your phone, go download it right now because you can stay ahead of this storm with our free interactive first alert radar. Plus, you can get the snow forecast specific for your neighborhood. 6 36 on this saturday. And were following some breaking news out of kent county, delaware. Weve been promising you were going to get an update to this story and we just got that update. State police now tell us we want you to look at video. State police now telling us it was a traffic stop here at fieldstone and canton road in dover just outside of downtown dover. Police tell us the trooper walked up to a saturn that was on the scene, looked into the vehicle and saw someone display a weapon. There was shooting at that point. Its not clear if anyone in the car fired at the trooper. But the trooper certainly fired a number of shots at the saturn. One person was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital. Another person in the car was shot, smaller injury, a graze wound. That person has been treated and released into Police Custody. A third person in the backseat got out and was taken into Police Custody without incident. Lets hear now from state Police Spokesperson who just arrived here at the scene. As he approached the vehicle on the passenger side, a front seat passenger in that vehicle displayed a weapon. At that time gunfire was exchanged. The front seat passenger was struck and succumb to his injury after being transported to a local hospital. A front seat operator of the vehicle was also struck, has been treated and released from hospital. A third subject who was a rear seat passenger was uninjured and is currently in custody. The trooper was not injured as a result of the incident. Reporter the trooper is out of barracks now being interviewed and debriefed about what happened. Still trying to work on the nature of what the original traffic stop was for. I asked police about that, theyre not really ready to give us an answer. Theyre saying thats in the process of being sorted out. Ive algs asked and didnt get a specific answer if a gun from the suspect vehicle was recovered at the scene, i asked a number of times, i think theyre still working on that here at the scene. Theyre going to do a reenactment here at the scene as part of their investigation. Well keep you posted as more information becomes available. Im tim furlong, well have more when it happens. Just the last half hour weve seen snow starting to move through delaware and into south jersey. And overnight the snow was accumulating in ocean city, new jersey. This is a live view. You can see the boardwalk has some snow on it. Still looking at those colder surfaces like the boardwalk and grass to see accumulation to start with while the roads are mainly damp. What to expect during the day today . Snow moving in, first flakes already falling in new jersey and delaware, thats going to spread across the entire area during the day today. And steady snow starts moving in late this morning and then takes us right on through the entire afternoon into the early evening hours. So there will be some slippery roads because the temperatures will be dropping as the day goes on. Now, you can see how this has changed in just the last hour look at the very light snowfall thats moving through delaware and into south jersey. And just skirting the delaware pennsylvania border into Delaware County and Chester County. Now, the steady snow accumulating snow really hasnt taken shape just yet. This is just some very light snow, but theres a lot more moisture to the south. And thats going to be moving in during the day today. At this hour we just got an update, one of our viewers just called in and said we got a little flurry activity in williamstown. So it looks very impressive on the radar, but thats very light precipitation reaching the ground so far. But there is more on the way. And theres likely to be some shoveling to be done as well. We will show you exactly what to expect neighborhood by neighborhood and take you through the entire day just ahead. Well be right back. You can see cars, drivers not having any problems out there on the road. Thats because theyve been treated and the roads not as cool, not as cold of a surface. On the ground a different story. You can see snow covered trees, bushes out there. Were going to continue to follow the snow as it picks up again down the shore and as it makes its way north. The snow arrives later today for people in pennsylvania it will be a snowy saturday in the suburbs. Nbc10s Deanna Durante is live in willow grove, Montgomery County, where people have been stocking up to spend the day inside. Reporter yeah, not just that, people are out on the roads because they have to. If youre watching this at home, you are one of the lucky ones. We have been talking to people who have to get to work today, have to make deliveries including joe who says he has 24 different homes waiting for groceries to get there because people dont want to go out. Up at 4 00 a. M. Today. Reporter are you loaded with deliveries . Yep. I got 25 deliveries today. 2 to 4 inches, thats not too much. We can deal with that. Reporter so some people not too worried about the amount of snow thats falling so far. And this guy, carmen from roz lin, youve been out there since what time this morning . 3 30 this morning. Reporter and youre doing what . This truck has a lot of salt in it. Yeah, trying to salt and get everything done before everybody comes out for Christmas Shopping and stuff. Trying to get it all handled. Reporter you mentioned a very important parking lot, toys r us, that was one of your jobs you were making sure the parking lot was nice and salted and ready to go there. Carmen driving big truck four tons of salt in there. Hes going to be out making sure parking lots and other areas in this area as well as philadelphia are clear. A lot of people waiting for the snow to fall. Again, if youre at home, thats probably about the safest and coziest place to be right now. Reporting live in willow grove, Deanna Durante, nbc10 news, rosemary. Thanks for being out there, deanna, appreciate it. I think something to point out to our viewers, obviously we havent had to drive in this for quite some time so as youre pulling into those parking spaces, if youre heading out to the mall, just take it a little easy because it may be slick. Absolutely. We are tracking the first snowfall of the season. Meteorologist bill henley and krystal klei are following the system and also taking a look at it neighborhood by neighborhood. But lets begin with bill. And this is a really good starter storm for us, gang. Its not going to be anything other than snow. No sleet, no freezing rain, no snow. Possibly some rain drops where its warmer at the shore, but in philadelphia well see snowflakes. In fact, it wont be long the first snowflakes are on the way. Theyll be moving in this morning and staying for this afternoon. A steady snow overnight. You can see the accumulation in ocean city on those colder surfaces like the boardwalk. And now im showing you this camera just in the last few minutes weve seen some of the snowflakes start to move back into ocean city. Thats not the only spot seeing some light snow develop. You can see over berks county and Lehigh Valley not much of this is reaching the ground just yet. But as the atmosphere cools down, we will see that happen. A few snowflakes, flurries being reported in south jersey and delaware seeing some very light snow. While right now its pretty quiet in philadelphia, but standby, the storm system is just getting started. Its centered off the carolina coast but moving up the east coast and expected to intensify as it does. So as the day goes on we will see snow spread across the entire area. And it will be accumulating. And with falling temperatures during the day, youre more likely to see accumulation on the roadways, during the afternoon especially late this afternoon and this evening. South philadelphia, well, get ready for the game, the Army Navy Game. Its dry right now, but the first flurries will be falling and during the game its going to be a steady snow. But the temperatures just above freezing holding at 33 at 3 00 for game time. At halftime snow will be falling at 33 degrees. And as people are exiting, yeah, youre more likely to run into those slick roads. So well see things change as the day goes on as far as accumulation and the timing of snow in your neighborhood. Meteorologist krystal klei is standing by with that. Krystal, whats it look like . Bill, lets start with the Neighborhood Planners like you showed off one of the planners for the game. Lets go through the rest of our neighborhoods, philly as you saw temperatures through the afternoon hours mostly just barely above freezing, but with snow in the afternoon forecast. Same deal the pennsylvania suburbs, lunchtime beyond is when we have the chance of snowfall and temperatures slightly below freezing. So that means this is sticking, accumulating, were talking maybe a couple inches at best. In the Lehigh Valley same deal. Up to 4 inches would be the highest amount we see, but most likely slightly lower amounts throughout the Lehigh Valley with temperatures just below freezing pretty much consistently through the day. In delaware this morning we are in the 30s. Same deal for new jersey and the shore. The shores a little above freezing so rain snow mix is possible through the morning hours. More likely it will be consistently snow as we get into the later part of the day as the air temperature itself lowers thanks to the cooling that this snow has, the effect on our entire region. Look at the hour by hour model, this is at 9 00 a. M. That snow is coming on in from the south and from the west. So its spreading across the board here by 9 00 a. M. Near philadelphia. We go from 9 00 a. M. Through noon, now that snow line extending all the way north through the poconos. But notice the lighter color farther north indicate a lighter snow, little steadier, deeper blues you see farther south over south jersey and southern delaware. This is at 6 30 in the evening. Now that snow line is starting to creep out of the poconos, out of the Lehigh Valley, berks county and chester and breaking over areas like the suburbs, philly and Mercer County. This is at 9 30 at night. Still a steady snow over south jersey, but by midnight everything pretty much starts to move out of the area. Overnight though with temperatures below freezing we could see some slick spots on roadways especially for the tomorrow morning drive. Snow totals were starting with the highest amounts 4 to 8 inches possible, these are in southern delaware where weve already had some reports of up to 5 inches falling. Go to those shaded in the lighter purple color, 4 to 6 inches, this stretches through kent county and lower portions of New Castle County as well as into cumberland, cape may, atlantic county, burlington county. And about half of camden and gloucester county. The 2 to 4 inch range, thats areas like cherry hill up through philadelphia and into the pennsylvania suburbs and that 2 to 4 does extend into the lower half of the Lehigh Valley and berks county, just 1 to 3 those areas shaded in white. You can start to see some of that snow already piling up on some of the trees out there, on the landscape. Out on the roads looking pretty good, thats because by and large crews have been treating them, salting them overnight making sure that they are safe for the day ahead. And speaking of the day ahead, this is going to be a daylong event. Yeah. Thats exactly right. Daylong event were looking at. Weve already got some accumulation over parts of southern delaware, the jersey shore. And, bill, i know were still watching radar as the snow starts to extend farther north. Were seeing snowflakes extend parteder into new jersey and across delaware and you can see radar really changed since we went on air at 5 00 this morning. The snow is slowly moving into the area. It shows snow reaching into the Lehigh Valley and some of the suburbs, its not reaching the ground just yet, but as the atmosphere starts to fill up with moisture and starts to get a little bit colder, you will see snow. So if youre waking up with dry ground and lots of salt on the ground, on the roads, standby, the snow is on the way. And it will be a snowy scene this afternoon.
