Police really trying to connect with the community to try to keep these things from happening. Reporter there was an Ice Cream Truck to send a message they will work to eliminate any violent crime. It comes some 18 hours since a Rookie Police officer continued to fight to subdue an armed suspect. He came to work to try to make camden a safer place. And he got shot at pointblank range. Reporter the chief considers his rookie officer a hero for his actions near 8th last night on proactive patrols he approached a suspect and thats when chaos start ed. One of the males took off running. The officer gave chase. He ran after him tackling the suspect. The suspect pulled out a gun, shot the officer at pointblank range in the front of his thigh. The chief says the. 9 millimeter jammed during the struggle and it was likely a miracle. It appears that the suspect tried to shoot the officer a second time in the face. But the gun did not go off. The officer was able to wrestle the gun away. Reporter backup cops helped him. They arranged for one of the officers to get the turn kit out of their vehicle, apply to the officers leg. That was cig is cant in the fact that they were also able to get him to the hospital in a matter of minutes. Reporter a second miracle according to the er doctors. The bullet missed the artery but hit one of the main vains in his legs. How a thug like this guy was able to get a handgun is beyond comprehension.
