A big storm system even though hurricaneforce winds are offshore, the lighter winds, the fatherer you get from it farther you get from it could reach Tropical Storm force tomorrow. Right now, seeing clouds inch closer to our area. A mostly cloudy day. This afternoon, thats when we could see the first showers move into the area. First alert for tropical impacts from jose for the jersey shore and the delaware beaches later today through thursday morning. We started to see the rough surf and rip current risk over the weekend. That continues. High winds forecast tomorrow. Potentially Tropical Stormforce winds tomorrow could produce damage if you have stuff that can blow away. Lawn furniture, trash cans, and youre at the shore, the delaware beaches, inland, its time to bring that stuff inside. Minor coastal flooding a possibility. Moderate beach erosion is possible. Philadelphia, the suburbs, dry, cloudy, muggy outside. Thats going to stay with us as temperatures climb to near 80 this afternoon. A chance of some lateday showers, but most of the day you can go without your umbrella. Developing now, teachers in the Methacton School district in Montgomery County will be walking the picket line this morning. The district plans to update us later on negotiations. Reporter parents are having to make other arrangements for kids because the teachers will be on the picket lines this morning. Negotiations picked up yesterday and went late into the night. Still both sides were unyou cant believe to reach a deal. Health care costs was the biggest sticking points. The district wants teachers to pay more, but they were unable to reach an agreement on premiums. Both sides did agree upon a Salary Increase for teachers. It wasnt enough to stop the strike. Our teachers are all solidly together. And certainly we care about the kids. We care about the district. Many of us either went to school here, have family in the district. May even have children in the district. And we dont want anybody to think we dont care about the kids and the education that theyre going to get, but our group is solidly together. Reporter no one knows how long the strike could last. It could last up to 18 days. In the meantime, the yooimca is offering childcare for kids k through 6 at skyview elementary at a cost. A woman from Chester County is one of four Boston College students recovering from an acid attack in france. 22yearold Courtney Siverling was with other students outside a train station yesterday. French police say a disturbed woman approached with no warning, spraying them with acid. The woman was arrested. Police dont think it was an act of terror. Boston college says the students were treated for burns at a hospital and released. The police chief and Mental Health expert plan to discuss how to recognize opioid abuse and the help available. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie plans to spend 200 million to improving that states approach to opioid treatment and prevention. The money will target the uninsured, medicaid recipients, and babies born to addicted mothers. Christie made the battle against opioid abuse a focus of his second term in office. The jersey shore and delaware beaches are bracing for the arrival of hurricane jose. The storm is still far offshore and wont make direct landfall. Its still going to impact our coastline. This time tomorrow, things are expected to be worse at the shore and the beaches. Hurricane jose is well off the coast and expected to stay there. Parts of the jersey shore and delaware beaches are feeling its effects already. The potential for strong rip vents kept people out of the rip currents kept people out of the water yesterday. Ventner lifeguards recommended people not go in. You did see some of the biggest waves spotted with surfers this weekend. Others are worried about guarding their homes and properties against high winds and flooding. These surfers tell us they live for this kind of weather. Cant wait to get out. September is the month for us. Theyll be talking with witnesses. The American Academy of pediatrics has issued its first recommendations on tattoos and piercings. The academy advises teens and parents to check that a salon is regulated by the state and that it practices infection control. Also be sure your teens immunizations are up to date and that theyre not taking medication thats could lower their immunity.
