Also new from overnight, a man shot in north philadelphia is in critical condition. Nbc 10 was on the scene at 24th and 1st streets where the victim suffered a chest wound around 10 30 last night. Doctors have been treating him at Temple University hospital. Police have not made any arrests in the shooting. This morning, Philadelphia Police are looking into a possible extortion threat that went viral. Take a look. For your police department, ten bucks each, man. Either you buy these or i take your car. These Police Fundraiser tickets are at the center of the controversy. The driver tells us that the officer stopped him in kensington for a taillight that was out. The driver did not want to show his face on camera. He told us that he handed over 30 bucks to the officer whom he described as disrespectful. It was never about the tickets. It was just how he talked to me. Its just stupid, not good at all. Theres nothing about the stop thats good, period. To that was Police Commissioner charles ramsey. He tells us that the officer is off the streets and that internal affairs is investigating the incident. Nbc 10 is not naming the officer because he has not been charged with a crime. Police are searching for the gunman wanted in connection to a double shooting in south philadelphia. This happened in the point breeze section of the city. Investigate ares tell us three people were arguing when one man started firing. 58yearold woman was shot in the ankle andc a man in his 40 was grazed by another bullet. A witness who was inside a nearby store at the time tells us that she heard at least three gunshots. I just say what happened . And i just came out of the door to see. And i saw the lady landed in front of her house. Detectives say that woman is in stable condition at Jefferson University hospital. Its unclear if the victims knew the shooter. Lets head to Chester County where four men have been charged in the shooting death of a teenager. Police say it was over 30 and some marijuana. According to authorities, the men you see here set up a bogus drug deal with christian santiago. The men robbed and allegedly killed him. Santiagos body was found thursday knit along hillsdale road in east bradford township. Amtrak is preparing for the popes visit to philadelphia with additional service. Heres what you need to know. The Transit Company will operate extra trains with added seats. Service will run between new york, philadelphia and washington. Pope francis will be visiting all three cities at the end of september. A quick, important note. Reservations are required in order to ride amtrak that weekend. Meantime, septa has begun selling special commuter train passes at select stations in philadelphia. The oneday Regional Rail passes are for the weekend of the papal visit. About 20,000 tickets were left over from the Online Lottery this summer. In new york, police are investigating why a man shot and killed a Security Guard inside a Federal Building before turning the gun on himself. The deadly gunfire yesterday sent people scattering at the building in manhattan. According to police, the shooter was a 68yearold man from fort lee, new jersey. One of his family members says he filed a whistleblower lawsuit after the u. S. Labor Department Fired him a few years ago. The relative also says the Labor Department had office space at the scene of the shooting. Authorities are crediting three americans with stopping an armed gunman on a train in france. The man was about to start shooting on the highspeed between between amsterdam and paris. The americans tackled and disarmed the shooter. One american who served in the air force suffered a stab wound but is expected to be okay. Authorities are questioning the attacker whom they say was carrying an automatic rifle and a knife. They came, they saw, they conquered. Now the two female soldiers who made history by becoming the first women to complete Army Ranger School have graduated. Captain Kristen Griest and lieutenant shaye haver along with 94 men, received their commission at fort benining yesterday. You have to be careful for bears, black bears, grizzly bears and mountain lions. In health news you probably heard that people with a lot of moles are at an increased risk for melanoma but a new Study Suggests people with fewer moles may be at risk for developing a more aggressive form of the disease. Researchers compared the medical records of nearly 300 melanoma patients who had more or fewer than 50 moles. Patients with fewer moles had more aggressive melanoma and was more likely to be dged at a later stage. Experts say thats because doctors are more likely to recommend skin checks for patients with a lot of moles. Nearly 2 million visitors from around the world are expected to descend on philadelphia next month to see pope francis. As local hospitals prepare for his visit, theyre armed with a new tool to provide better care for the global community. The staff at Lankenau Medical Center will use new Video Technology to communicate with patients to speak other languages. It allows doctors and nurses to communicate withc translators realtime at the bush of a button. Interpreters can translate more than 100 spoken languages and sign language is also an option. Lankenau tells us the technology is a win win for patients and doctors. Being able to have an interpreter immediately means there will be no delay in care and no delay in care means better and safer care for our patients.
