Philadelphia police say the deadly crash is one of the worst they have ever seen. Three people died and another person is listed in Critical Condition. Take a look behind me. This wreckage is so bad, it looks like two vehicles were involved in this crash. Now the sun is up you can get a better look at the devastation. One car was sliced in half and four young people were riding inside. Three of them this morning are dead. This car literally slice inside half from the impact with this tree. Philadelphia police tell us they believe this vehicle was street racing when the driver navigated a tight turn on sand meyer road in the bustleton section of the city off red lion road. The driver apparently lost control and the car was airborne for sometime before slamming against this tree. Three people died at the scene and one passenger is in extreme Critical Condition to quote police. We have to be very, very careful when we are out here driving. Being aware who youre getting in the car with and who the driver is that youre getting in the car with because you could have an incidence such as this that happens and families tonight will be very, very devastated at this loss of life. Reporter police say they are reporter this morning they are looking at Surveillance Video. They want to see if the vehicle was drag racing. One of our regions longest serving congressmen indicted. Chaka fattah is accused of participating in five schemes and years of illegal activity. The 29count indictment accuses him of misusing hundreds of thousands of dollars of federal charitable and campaign funds. Nbc10s Monique Braxton has been going over the 85page indictment and joins us live outside of fattahs Congressional District office in winfield. Break down the charges for us monique. Reporter first, we should tell you that congressman chaka fattah has not been rested but the u. S. Attorneys allegations against him are wide ranging. These are allegations that the people involved are innocent until proven otherwise. Reporter congressman fattah says he has done nothing wrong as he sits in the halls of congress. But back in his home district, federal prosecutors announced racketeering and conspiracy and related charges and date back to 2007 in his failed bid for philadelphia mayor. Among the five schemes he is accused of, prosecutors say the largest involved a disguised Million Dollar Campaign Loan. 600,000 of which he repaid by funneling charitable donations and taxpayer money through a nonprofit he controlled. In scheme two, they alleged he tried to repay a Campaign Consulting debt by trying to steer a 15 Million Dollar federal grant to back consultants. The third scheme involves the Student Loan Debt of fattahs son. Prosecutors say the congressman and his aide bonnie bowser funneled Campaign Cash to a consulting company. The congressman was in washington yesterday but soon after the indictment was made public, the congressman vows to remain in office and fight the charges. Its, obviously, important to my constituents that this not be a distraction in terms of my work and ill try not to have it be a distraction. Reporter this morning, we will walk you through the allegations entailed in the indictment, including the prosecutors claim that some of that money was used to pay Closing Costs for a poconos Vacation Home. Thats coming up in the next half hour. Live outside the congressmans office in winfield, Monique Braxton, nbc10 news. There are four other people indicted in the case. Bonnie bowser was in charge of the congressmans personal and Campaign Financial transactions. Karen nicholas was chief executive officers of educational advancement alliance, that nonprofit the congressman founded. Herbert vederman was a lobbyist and senior consultan and robert brand is the founder of company two. Brand is also the spouse of a former fattah congressional staffer. Here is more background on congressman fattah. That was chaka fattah in 1994 shortly after winning his bid for congress. At the time he was a 37yearold state senator. He grew up in west philadelphia. What happens next . Important to note congressman fattah is not under arrest. He will have to appear in court but no date has been set. The indictment points to his wife nbc10s anchor renee chenaultfattah who is being involved in part of the alleged crimes but she is not criminally charged. Renee is on leave from the station. Authorities tell us they have no suspects or a motivate at this time at a condo shooting. Happening today a Delaware County man is scheduled to be sentenced for driving under the influence. Jonathan vanderhorst was accused of causing a crash that killed a teenager and guilty of driving under the influence. The crash happened last year in Clifton Heights and killed an 18thyearold, a graduate of Upper Darby High School and freshman lacrosse player at newman university. Nine minutes after 6 00. More Police Officers are patrolling hot spots for crime in wilmington. Fourteen officers were reassigned to the citys disrupt unit cracking down on violent crimes. The number of of officers that nthat unit reduced as part of the Restructuring Plan but the Security Council city council has not approved funding for that plan so the chief is shifting back officers to make sure the community is protected. Investigators say ruben rojas got into an argument with a trainer and pulled a gun and shot him. The trainer is in stable condition. But this is going to be out there until august 4th so you have to plan accordingly. Otherwise you can take girard avenue to get through the area. Then hit the schuylkill expressway that way. Federal investigators tell us they began investigating congressman chaka fattahs office after they say he arranged for and received what they are calling an unlawful Million Dollar loan to support his 2007 campaign for mayor. After losing the race investigators say fattah paid back 400,000 when the lender wanted the rest authorities claim fattah stole charitable and federal grant funds to repay the loan. In another alleged scheme prosecutors say fattah handdelivered a note to president obama in order to secure an ambassadorship or other post for lobbiest herbert vederman. In change they say vederman offered bribes including 18,000 phony purchase of a porsche owned by the congressmans spouse nbc10 anchor renee chenaultfattah. Prosecutors say the couple also took the money but never actually gave the car to vederman and used that money for Closing Costs on a poconos Vacation Home soon thereafter. The congressman says he has done nothing wrong and he vows to remain in office and fight the charges. He is the founder of company two, a philadelphia based Public Policy Technology Company and he is the spouse of a former fattah congressional staffer. Fattah is not under arrest and no court date hash set. Lets take a look what happened. Last year a former man neiler testified. Greg neiler admitted last year in federal court helping the congressman conceal finance related fraud schemes and thomas vederman last year. The son of fattah is also indicted and said he has done nothing wrong and believes the feds indicted him hoping to get him to testify against his father and his trial starts later this year. The two former fattah Associates Face sentencing in december. Congressman fattah grew up in west philadelphia. His roots in the city are deep. So is his impact. Back in march, the congressman was at this launch party in center city for the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring resource center, a extra funded in part with fattahs help. Now some nonprofit leaders are concerned that federal funding may be harder to come by with congressman fattah surrounded by criminal allegations. I am concerned. I am concerned about how will that impact us this year and next year. Congressman fattah is recusing himself on the house kroopgs appropriations committee. Police are looking into whether street racing played a role in a deadly crash that happened in northeast philadelphia. Nbc10s katy zachry is live for us in bustleton at the scene that police these are veteran Police Officers who say this is the worst they have ever seen. Reporter these veteran investigators say it was hard for them to stomach the damage while they were here overnight. This is where the car hit the curb as it was flying out of control. You can see skid marks, tire marks and some debris. As we pan out, police say the car got airborne before it hit this tree literally splitting it into two. This happened around midnight on san myer lane in bustleton. Investigators believe the car was street racing. Four young people were inside and three of them died here at the scene. The victim who survived is in extremely Critical Condition to quote first responders. The Police Captain who was out here throughout the morning said he was shaken because, as a Police Officer and as parent this is one of the worst crashes he has ever witnessed. The situation where you have Young Children not Young Children but teenagers. High speed. Driving a car. Thinking they are having a good time and it only takes a second to lose control of a vehicle and have a senseless loss of life. A local woman faced a judge overnight on charges she killed a philadelphia boy and na hitandrun crash more than three months ago. Mason turned herself in on wednesday and faces several charges including homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter. She is accused of the crash that killed letief wilson in april. He was only 4 years old. Police say mason hit the boy after he ran out in the street. Officers say she hit him a second time as she was leaving the scene. A nohitter to a new home. According to a number of sources the phillies have traded pitcher cole hamels to the Texas Rangers and did it last night in exchange for several players including three star prospects. Hamels is now the first pitcher in baseball history to be traded directly after throwing a nohitter which he tossed on saturday against the cubs. Hamels is third alltime in strikeouts for the Phillies Organization behind hall of Famer Steve Carlton and robin roberts. A Police Officer heads to court today to face murder charges in the shooting death of a driver during a traffic stop. Ray tensing was a university of cincinnati Police Officer and accused of killing Samuel Dubose for failing to have a license plate. Dubose was shot in the head after giving a bottle of alcohol when asked for his license. Surveillance says body camera of that incident does not back up tensings version of the event. Following the indictment dozens of university of cincinnati campus took place in a rally after the rally, the crowd marched through streets of cincinnati.
