BENNINGTON â Vaccinations against COVID-19 got under way in Bennington County on Wednesday, with 75 healthcare workers at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center expected to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine by the end of the evening.
Dr. Ann Marie Swann received the very first dose, at about 11 a.m. The vaccine was administered by Melissa Goldstein, RN and clinical education specialist. "It didn't even hurt!" Swann said immediately after receiving her shot.
Swann was followed by Patricia Johnson, RN, a nurse in the Emergency Department. Both work directly with COVID-19 patients, and volunteered to be the first to receive the vaccine. Forty-three additional healthcare workers, who also work directly with COVID-19 patients, followed, and thirty more were expected to receive the vaccine last night.
