Utica Community Schools student musicians receive All-State honors

SHELBY TOWNSHIP/UTICA/STERLING HEIGHTS — Six Utica Community Schools student musicians have received All-State honors from the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association for the 2020-21 school year.
A total of 1,466 students submitted an audition to the association this year, hoping to earn All-State honors.
Due to the pandemic, the auditions were done entirely virtually. Students had to prepare one or two challenging pieces of music, as well as scales, and record their performances into an online audition system for adjudicators to evaluate later. Students had to record their performances directly into their browsers and only got one attempt, so that it somewhat replicated the normal audition process where they would have only one chance to perform.
