The capital gains, in excess of Rs 1 lakh, at the time of sale of equity shares are taxed at 10% if the holding period is more than a year.
1. A securities transaction tax of 0.1% is levied on purchase and sale of any listed equity share.
2. The dividends declared by the companies are taxed at the marginal rate of tax for the investor.
3. Capital gains at the time of sale of equity shares are taxed at 15% if the holding period is less than a year.
