Two thirds of Australians have resigned themselves to never owning their own home as house prices continue to skyrocket.
House price to income ratios are soaring nationwide, but the biggest gap is in Sydney's market, where the average price of a home is eight times higher than an average salary in the city.
To combat the boom, the NSW Government tabled offering $25,000 grants to first home buyers in an attempt to help them afford a deposit.
The proposed grant would replace existing stamp duty concessions and could potentially see home ownership in the state rise by six per cent.
That would see an additional 300,000 families afforded the opportunity to buy a home each year.
