SOME might wonder why trekkers go out of their way to walk up hills and mountains and come back exhausted.
They don’t take anything back as souvenirs or earn anything – only photographs of themselves traipsing up the hill or mountain and standing against a signboard at their destination.
Upon meeting them, one is told about hikes through hills and mountainous areas that allow them to enjoy the splendour of nature. They talk about how they enjoy the stillness of a valley, splendours of sunsets over treetops and the starry night sky, as well as the wonders of the wild; birds, insects, butterflies, flowers and bubbling streams, among many others.
Besides the attractiveness of these sights, it seems trekkers are also hooked on the challenge of conquering mountains, traversing sloped terrains and walking on meandering tracks deep in the jungle.
Enthusiasts are not averse to days of trekking, navigating their way into their destination. They are known to pack provisions for their journey into the wild, with the ambition to stay several days before reaching their destination, and then trek for a few more days to return to the starting point
