responsible for what happened to other alleged victims because he didn't come forward earlier. the now 28-year-old manmade the comments under cross- examination after testifying that the former penn state assistant football coach had given him gifts but also abused him on the university campus and during trips they took together. sandusky faces 52 criminal counts that he sexually abused ten boys. he has denied any wrongdoing. 4:31 now. he died in d.c. police custody. now the family of anthony chambers is demanding an investigation into his death. >> as matt jablow tells us, police say chambers died after an attack by several officers. >> reporter: funny, caring and hard-working, that's how 38- year-old anthony chambers was remembered tonight by his sister. >> real nice guy, liked to rap, liked music. >> reporter: and by his 12-year- old daughter. >> i think it's sad because my father didn't have to die. >> reporter: at a candlelight vigil and protest march, three days after chambers died in police custody. >> racism must be stopped. >> amen. >> reporter: it was right around 3:00 friday afternoon when according to d.c. police, four officers were called to the unit block of p street southwest to help several members of the department of mental health who were apparently interacting in some way with chambers. when police arrived, they say chambers attacked the officers, was put in handcuffs, lost consciousness and died. >> six cops put their hands around him and beat him. >> reporter: but that's not at all what happened according to chambers' sister who said she was in the apartment when her brother was attacked and killed for no apparent reason by police. what they did is they restrained my brother, started choking him. they strangled him to death. >> reporter: tonight they're calling for justice. >> they attacked him. i witnessed it all. >> reporter: matt jablow, 9news now. >> d.c. police would not comment on the case. all they would say is that the death is under investigation and that the cause of death had not yet been determined by the medical examiner. a civil lawsuit filed against the culpeper virginia police officer may be expanded to include the police department and all responsible parties. that's based on statements made by an attorney who represents the widower of patricia cook. cook was found shot and killed last february when she was behind the wheel of her jeep. officer daniel harmon-wright is charged with her murder. he was on duty at the time. this past weekend harmon-wright was freed from jail pending trail after he posted bail. looks like the jury will have to decide the case without hearing from roger clemens. the former baseball player is accused of lying to congress about whether or not he used steroids during his playing days. closing arguments are scheduled for this morning. at 4:34, here's a look at some other things making news now. the united states is accusing the regime of syrian president bashar al-assad of new horrific tactics in their crackdown on anti-government dissidents. syrian military helicopters fired on civilians living in rural areas. more than 50 people were killed yesterday across syria. that wildfire that's burning in colorado has now claimed its first life. 562-year-old woman -- a 62-year- old woman was found dead yesterday. the fire has doubled in size since it started. damage close to a 120 buildings. there's another major fire in new mexico. it is 30% contained by firefighters now. it's burned more than 36,000 acres. in sports the cup has a new home for the first time in their 45-year history. the los angeles kings have won the stanley cup. they beat the new jersey devils 6-1 monday night in game six of the stanley cup finals. jeff carter and trevor lewis scored two goals a piece and jonathan quick made 17 saves in his latest stellar performance for the kings. they bottom the first eighth seeded playoff team to win the stanley cup. we are is what happened on wall street. dow standing this morning at 12,411. nasdaq was off by 49 points and s&p 500 was down by 17. the head of jpmorgan chase will be on capitol hill today. c.e.o. jamie dimon scheduled to testify before the senate banking committee. he's headed there to explain to lawmakers how his firm managed to lose $2 billion. the enormous losses cut nearly $30 billion off of jpmorgan's market value and it also raises questions about regulatory oversight. congress will look at whether stricter trading rules should be in place. apple's next generation iphone expected to hit stores just in time for the holidays. apple executives made the announcement monday at the company's annual software developer conference in san francisco. the iphone 5 will be released this september. apple said it has no plans ever to make an ipad mini which essentially would be an iphone. right? right? okay. chrysler is expanding its recall of the jeep liberty. it's added another 137,000 of its 2006 and 2007 models. a lower control arm in the rear suspension can rust, can break and cause a possible crash. this brings the total number of recalled jeep liberty suvs to nearly 350,000. chrysler says of course it's going to replace the parts for free if needed. so there you go. something to be aware of if you're a jeep liberty owner. >> does apple send out a new product like thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. this morning it will be a scattering of showers. one way or another you're likely to see raindrops at times today. i don't expect it to be raining constantly between now and midnight, but that threat will be with us till about 11:00, 12:00 tonight. here's a look at it. we start with the bus stop forecast. last day for my little guy there in montgomery county. we go till friday in prince william and fairfax and i think that's it. warm and humid with scattered showers this morning. 60s and even low 70s. we've got sunrise happening at 5:42, about an hour from now. as we go throughout the day today, lots of clouds. there may be just a peek of sun but expect clouds with the scattered showers. 76 by noon. southeast winds at 10 to 15 miles an hour. becoming southerly later on as we approach the 80-degree mark, scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening. yesterday was 90, by the way. you can see the moisture how it's been flowing northward and with the loss of daytime heating, there's not much to show you here. want to go over to live doppler 9000 hd. light showers moving from leesburg, fairfax a few sprinkles. as you get in toward montgomery county, almost to the howard county line, back through college park, back south of annapolis down toward shady side and into the bay, that's where we've got a leftier shower, if you will. other than that it's a relatively quiet, mild morning. still 75 at bwi. 70 easton. gaithersburg, hagerstown is 72 with upper 60s from culpeper, luray, winchester and cumberland. you see some of the raindrops from the showers that went through a little while ago. on the hour national was reporting some rain, 07 degrees. the showers -- 70 degrees. the showers have lifted north. the humidity 88% and south wind at 7. the muggies are in play. here's the big picture. got a lot of thunderstorms. this is actually keeping some of the moisture from us. you see all the storms down here? that's robbed some of the moisture. so i'm not as concerned about the heavy rain threat at least for the first part of the day. still a cold front well to the west. behind it the drier air. on top of us, that warm, humid muggy air mass will be with us today. a scattering of showers and storms here starting midday. actually this morning midday into the afternoon. it's not everywhere but that threat will be with us on and off through the evening hours. we get toward almost midnight now. the bulk of the rains are going to be from the bay east by then and pulling away. we'll get into wednesday. wednesday looks pretty good although as a northeast wind develops, wednesday night, thursday may bring in some moisture off the atlantic in the form of clouds and possibly a shower here and there on thursday. so today 81. a yellow day. these storms are going to -- and showers are going to mess up the morning and the evening commute. breezy tomorrow, 80. mild thursday, 79. a few more clouds, maybe we're just getting word of a damaged manhole cover in the center of the road so be aware of that. scoot over to the left or the right to get around it. you've also got still a bit of construction left look on the northbound side heading into the district. you're going to be okay here crossing the potomac river. all the potomac and anacostia river crossings are doing just fine. to the west side of town no problems to report 066 or the dulles -- on 66 or the dulles toll road although you do have that construction. west side of town looks great. wet road conditions so give yourself extra time. a group of protesters held what they call a new orleans style funeral procession in downtown washington on monday. no one actually died. this was a protest against pepco's $42.5 million rate hike request. there you go. the celebration so to speak. the protesters delivered a casket to yesterday's public service commission hearing and they are calling on the commission to reject that rate hike. doctors often tell us to get more sleep. there's a new study at the university of alabama birmingham finding that getting too little sleep can put older and middle age people at risk for a stroke. teresa garcia with more. >> reporter: dale beck wakes up take early so he can get to the gym and that means he's only sleeping five or six hours a night. >> getting up early and working out has helped me keep that zest going throughout the day. >> reporter: but a new study shows people over 45 who regularly sleep less than six hours are at higher risk for developing stroke symptoms. those can include a sudden numbness in the body or a loss of vision. >> we live in such a 24-hour culture and the emphasis is on improving your diet, getting more exercise, but we also forget the last thing which is get some good sleep as well. >> reporter: the study's designers were surprised to find that the people in their group did not have the usual risk factors for stroke. their weight was normal and they are with the a low risk for sleep apnea. >> researchers are planning to watch the study group another five years. they want to see if participants go beyond the early symptoms and suffer actual stokes. -- >> strokes. >> if that's the case, then we can target the sleep through modifying the quality of their sleep, the duration of their sleep. >> reporter: dale beck says for now he values his workouts more than the sleep he's losing. >> makes me think about it but on the other hand if i don't get my exercise, i'm at a higher risk for something else. >> reporter: researchers say it's healthy to get seven or eight hours a night and if you're having getting that sleep, ask your doctor for help. teresa garcia, cbs news, los angeles. breast cancer survivor and "good morning america" co- anchor robin rocks is facing yet another health -- roberts is facing yet another health crisis. she'll have to undergo chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant after being diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome. it's a direct result of her treatment for breast cancer. >> the reason i am sharing this with everybody now is because later today i begin what is known as pretreatment. it's a pic line in my arm and i didn't want you to be concerned if you saw a bandage tomorrow. it's going to be fair to draw blood that has to be monitored regularly and also to administer drugs later today and for the week and for a period of time all to prepare me for a bone marrow transplant. >> roberts says her sister is a perfect bone marrow match. she will be her donor. she will be remain on the air through her treatment. she sent out a tweet yesterday, said she had her first treatment, is feeling fine. she'll have to take a chunk of time off. staten drugs have shown to significantly increase fatigue, particularly in women. a study of 1,000 people at the university of california san diego found staten users had less energy and got tired from exertion. while they're among the most widely described, doctors could -- should weigh the risk for women, including those with heart disease and over 07 even if they do have heart disease. researchers in sweden tracked 1400 people over 24 years. they found dental plaque was associated with a 79% increase in dying early from cancer. the risk was much higher for men. the authors caution the absolute risk of death is low. their findings don't prove dental plaque causes or definitely contributes to cancer. walking slower later in life could signal dementia. researchers in oregon followed 93 people age 70 or old every. slow workers were nine times more likely to have mild cognitive impairment. more studies need to be done on larger groups to determine if walking speed could predict future memory problems. 4:53. time for the
