That is the box where you should take cover immediately. A warning that a tornado has been cited or the doppler indicated tornado. Places to take cover for the tobacco, let me give you a track. Lions corner and Southern Maryland and blue crab and la plata. You should take cover. Send them a text or a tweet and say, hey you know what, this is a serious situation. We do have a Tornado Warning in effect until 7 30 for this area in Charles County. The other problem with this, we have been tracking all evening, incredible hail. Maybe baseball size hail and this is the storm itself. I have never seen such a large area that is covered in hail. This magenta is your hail essentially like 6 miles in diameter. We have had reports of golf ball to up to baseball sized hail with this. So this is the latest scan now. Around beach lane and this is going to move to the east and then we have got the Tornado Warning in effect for Charles County. Lions corner and la plata and anyone down 3 01. Past haley estate. Tell them to wait or towards tobacco village to wait for a second. I will take off a couple of things to make it easier to see. I will take off the radar and put the sheer on. We are looking at sheer at 66 Miles Per Hour with this. We have got a 66 Miles Per Hour sheer there and the Tornado Warning and we have rainfall rates of 3 to 4inches per hour and the possibility of baseball sized hail. This is something to take very seriously. Tornado warning in effect until 7 30 for Charles County. So if you are in the hallly states or rosewick road take cover. I will go ahead and zoom back out here. If nothing else we will see a tremendous amount of damage with this hail that we dont see very often. There is the bok for the Tornado Warning. Above it, okay . In other words, this box in mere, the Severe Thunderstorm Warning, this is the Tornado Warning so please take cover if you are inside around la plata and 201, you have to take cover. We will put the reared back on and take a little trip to the north here. This is a heck of a storm. Around mount vernon. If we were to loop it, notice how it is ducking a little bit, not quite due east but due to the east and so headed towards aquakey and what happens they duck east and south. Waldorf you are in the cross hairs for hail and in terms of a tornado, la plata unfortunately you are are once again in the cross hairs of the tornado. And i will tell you what, this storm is very strong to the north. This is Severe Thunderstorm Warning from montgomery and prince georges county. We have hill, aspen hail, thats 97 and george avenue towards bellpree and bonaville road. That is headed to the east. Towards 70 you are okay. And if you are going up 97 or connecticut avenue, past wheaton you have heavy rain and hail and 650, New Hampshire avenue you will have slow going as well. These storms just popped up in the last couple of hours. The storms to the south here popped up in 25 minutes and this thing is just not going away. We widen it up. Let for a second. We will loop this and look at how it stays together from manassas across 95 and across 1 and now to the northwest of waldorf. Thats pretty impressive. Part of the reason, well, it got warm today. So temperatures are you know up now to 80 degrees. Right now 74 downtown in dc and we were as much as 80 to the northwest and the atmosphere disstabilized. We had a very stable atmosphere and a miserable weekend and the easterly flow and we got a southerly flow and that got us going with the front pushing through with the cold wedge. You can have that in the spring and thats what we got. Mouth vernon and back here, heavy rain and possibly flash flooding and please be advised by car or by foot because this storm in addition to the hail has rainfall rates, there you go, 1. 34inches per hour. And thats enough to cause some flooding as the storm moves off to the southeast and the hail, i think will go more like this. Maybe towards pine field and the heavy rain towards north keys and brandy wine and we will scan back down to the south and this is where we are looking at the Tornado Warning and for the most part we are seeing the possibility of a tornado into Charles County. And for some reason it is still on the map. Let me put it back on the map. This is the Tornado Warning, it is here south of waldorf and la plata. Thats where you are going to find the possibility of the strongest winds but north of this and often times by the way you have a storm that has a lot of hail in it. It is not a one to one corr have a storm with a lot of hail it often can be accompanied by a tornado and this is tremendous amount of hail. Aquakey to barry, it is again not only is it large hail. It is held together for an hour andahalf and large area of coverage. Usually we see a little bit of hail in a little neighborhood like that but this is encompassing several neighborhoods and it will do some damage. I guarantee it. See the hook here. We are getting a little bit of a hook right here. A little indication of where the tornado could be forming. Again, i Southern Maryland, the doppler indicated we do have reports of pingpong ball size hail. In between golf ball and baseball hail. But this is rather impressive. Now i will take this off, okay . And lets put the not to make things look complicated but lets talk about the sheer, there is the sheer. Lets take this off. And lets see what we got here around 227, 301, 57 Miles Per Hour wind sheer, you will have damaging winds whether or not you have a tornado. No eyewitnesses of the tornado. You will have big time winds between waldorf and la plata. If you know somebody driving down to Southern Maryland and they havent left yet, tell them to hang on for a minute d because you dont want to be on the road. The last place you want to be on the road when we are doing or covering storms and there is a possibility of a tornado. Even with the hail and the high winds and the rain, you just dont want to put yourself in harms way and thats what you would be doing. So tweet them and tech them and give them a call and say, you know what, just hang tight for a minute. There we are. Again, if you are not under the Tornado Warning north of you towards brandy wine that is Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 7 15 and this is where it is right here now and this is getting a little more intensity looks a little bit more like a Tornado Warning. Let me see. There we go. You got the red and the green and this indicates the possibility of around Marshall Corner road and 227 we are seeing some sheer here and moving from radar and the radar not crazy sheer but a little bit of rotation and thats one thing we look for the tornado, not a Straight Line wind and that looks more menacing. We have been de stabilizing several hours and look at what it has developed. This is getting more serious. If you are in hally estates need to take cover mild. University drive and st. Charles road take cover meal. Turkey hill road and know your geography, if you hear me say a name if you are over here briansville road, you are in the path of the storm. And ill give you a little Storm Tracker here for towns. Hally estate and hughesville. Now you are out of the warning, okay, the warning stops at southern blue maryland crab there. But if you are in any of the areas outside of the warning now, it will probably be extended and maybe come a more dangerous storm so you can take precautions now hughesville to secure loose rob objects and go to a basement or security room. If is a heavy deal. Theres the newest scan, waldorf and middletown road. In terms of the potential for the tornado, ill zoom back out a little bit. Theres probably the best place for it right there. We are looking at la plata between la plata and waldorf where i see the most possible rotation so south of 228 and down 5. So please take this seriously. Warnings mean things are happening. Anytime we issue a warning or a warning is issued by the weather service, it means take action. Okay . Immediately. A watch is favorable. Need to take action immediately with a warning. This is your Tornado Warning until 7 00 7 00 7 30 and you have the warning off north. In terms of just to the northern waldorf we will zoom back out and we have a severe thunderstorm everywhere. One to the north that has crossed over i270. This is the one we showed you earlier with hail. Thats across i270 and this is a storm that is producing the possible tornado and notice back to the west, wind chester and charlottesville there is more storms. So we are not done. Obviously we are focused primarily on this one storm in Charles County but not done. We talked about the timetable now until 3 00 a. M. In the morning. So thats the deal. So certainly these are the most severe storms right now but we are not out of the woods even after these paths. We will wait until 3 or 4 00 and we will get an easterly flow and give us more stable air and that won hall happen until 3 and and five a. M. In the morning. So thats when we will go back to a stable atmosphere and in the meantime it is volatile. Thats why we told you to download the app and we will send you the alerts and you can track them and protect life and property. So the box here, okay . You see the red box is your Tornado Warning and that goes until 7 30. In this area you need to take it seriously and take cover. Hughesville, you are not under the warning but probably will be. Charlottes hall take cover and if you are anywhere inside this warning area that weve mentioned. Hopefully you have taken cover in lions corner and brunswick road and hally estates. You are in between st. Charles and hallys estate. That indicates where that hook is, where some sheer could be. There you are in hally estates. You have got winds going in Different Directions and when that happens you get the potential for a tornado. In any event you will see incredible winds and damaging hail and you folks technically north of the Tornado Warning but inside the Severe Thunderstorm Warning, okay . Sharperville and waldorf and st. Charles, you guys will get hammered. Damaging hail. Large area. If we do this, it is four miles in diameter, pretty big. Normally we will have stronger concentrations of hail in terms of the size of the hail, we have to go back over to the west just a little bit. Look at the hally estate. Hail size over 3inches and that is pingpong ball and baseball size hail. That was a little while ago. Probably past halling point estate and towards indian estates. So that is what is headed your way in waldorf, sharperville and it will be over davis road. That will do damage. If you have a car outside put it in the carport or under the garage or throw tarps over it because that will damage cars. We dont say that too often but we are now. That is incredible. Zoom out more. Going on with the radar. All right . So here we are. We got pretty impressive storms. Causing the Tornado Warning and the Severe Thunderstorm Warning. This had a Severe Thunderstorm Warning and these are now starting to develop just to the east of chan tilly and north of fairfax and north of dc. If we move further out we still have storms to the west, you know, down to warrington on 15. Well loop it and everything is moving to the east, northeast. We are not done. The atmosphere is not going to become stable. It will support Severe Weather for about another 6 to 8 hours. And certainly the next three hours. The sun is still up and the sun goes down 801. We have enough to keep the storm going. These are the new storms that have popped up. This is heavy. In oakton and falls church. In fact we will talk about rainfall rate over an inch and a third. Oakton lightning and rainfall rates two and 3 4 per inch per hour. Thats why we issued the yellow weather alert for Severe Weather and a slow go home because that is going to be the rule of thumb tonight and if you are trying to go through one of these storms, if you are able to watch us on the app which you can, and you are headed towards tyson or the west of town wait. Certainly if you are headed to Southern Maryland you have got to wait. I cant have have you go down to the storm. La plata, my goodness we just celebratth of the storm there in 2002. I say this, if we had a Tornado Alley and we dont here in the east. La platta you would be it. Rose wick hill and Southern Maryland blue crab and hally estate. That to me is the most dangerous. Even if you are not of this, st. Charles park way, take cover and over prepare if you are in this area, lets say brian town road or even further out to young road. The storm is heading your way. And you know so take precaution, you want to put the umbrella down. Fine if your outside the box, if not you need to have taken cover. Elin road. Maybe you can take cover in two minutes but if you are Southern Maryland, blue crab, i hope you have headed our warnings and bryce as well. That will be another possible area of high winds. Let me take the radar off. We will put the hail back on here. 2. 2inches. Thats a huge area from billings road to haley estates to University Drive across 301. Thats impressive. The hail tracks. Lets see what we got. Probably a pretty similar number. The good news is that is smaller, it weakened a tiny bit. If we had values over three inches we would still be impressed with what we are seeing now at 2. 2inches. That still could do damage. The sheer, we have to kind of move a little bit and get the here in here. This is increased a little it looks like to me. Now we got 72 Miles Per Hour winds. So this is a wild ago. This is not dead alive. Ashland road, there was your sheer of 72. I think you will have whether or not it turns out to be a tornado or not, i think you will have certainly strong winds and damaging winds. That will be a given. Let me zoom back out. Lions corner. Wow. Southern maryland and blue crab. How many times will i say that . In the cross hairs. In la plata in the cross hairs of hail to the north and the possibility of a tornado just to your south. It is pretty daunting little storm and held together very well. Waldorf you got the hail and down furthso side of 301. Thats the latest hail scan, so there is the hail from waldorf to 5. Lets take the ill take the radar off and put the hail slide back on. This is impressive. Two inches there and two inches there. So in terms of area it is six miles. That is unusual. Crossing with damaging hail either side. And we got winds over 60 Miles Per Hour. So at the very least we will have damage, we dont have confirmation of tornado. It is doppler indicated but it looks to me we will see damaging winds. You guys got pictures for us . Yes. We want to look at the pictures that our viewers have been sent in. It means a tornado is eminent to seek shelter and that meteorologists like topper detected strong indications on the radar and when a spotter sees a tornado on the ground, as we look at some of the video and pictures one from jack asher, this is hail in potomac. Baseball size to golf size hail. This is from cynthia in Fairfax County. Near burke, you are seeing the hail on the ground. Topper many times Charles County, that is where the Tornado Warning is. La plata seems to be in the bulls eyes. And you got more pictures. Mr. Raul golf ball size folks can get pictures. If you want to send us pictures send them to wusa9. Com or on our Facebook Pages. Another picture from gregory pike. In potomac maryland. I got to see this. You can hear it coming down. This is video on our Facebook Page. Can you tell us what area it is, dory . We know this is the potomac and if you want to look outside your window, if you want to please send us any video on your Facebook Page at wusa9. Com. And hopefully you pull your vehicles inside your garage. Here is a live look at some of the highways, traffic is moving steadily. The brunt of the evening rush hour is over right now but some of the be dangerous. This is 301. In maryland, yes. Again, Southern Maryland getting walloped around now as topper says. You got, you know the baseball sized hail coming down and you have got the tornado watch in Charles County. Right. Five more minutes until that Tornado Warning expires in Charles County. What else can you tell us . I am trying to get a picture. Hang on one second. This is a pretty phenomenal picture. From dale city taken by a mom of an old intern of mine. Check this out. So that is dale city. Okay . You can see really some thats and a storm that produces severe hail and that is what we have seen with this one. That is a heck of a picture. What are we looking at right now . That is a shelf cloud and it often extends out from the thunderstorm. Where the cars are pointing, the storm is behind them and it is moving towards where the car is in the direction where the car is pointing and that was in dale city and that was taken not long ago. Taken at 6 52. When the storm is moving out of manassas and headed toward dale city and woodbridge and i guarantee there is hail in the storm. The the 80s. Yes, it did and to stabilize the weather and we issued the yellow weather alert and it has come to pass. Now we have new warnings out. This is a new Severe Thunderstorm Warning in calvert and charles and prince georges and saint marys. Get ready Prince Frederick and hughesville. This is the Tornado Warning for la plata and also for most of Charles County until 7 30 and about four minutes or so. Im not sure if they will extend this. I dont see a lot of problem right inside the box. My hunch is if they do a Tornado Warning it may be further north. We will have to wait and see what is indicated in terms of doppler. We are looking at one heck of a storm in terms of hail. I have never seen together so well. Taking the warnings out and zooming back in. This is your hail core in Industrial Park over 925 and 5. This will move due east. A little bit of a hook and not a crazy hook. There is Southern Maryland blue crab. If we go in here. We see a little bit of rotation but not as much rotation. It looks like it will expire. It looks like we are good now in Southern Maryland. Thats good. Lets make sure it is off of here. It probably wont go off until 30, gone. Tornado warning is gone for Southern Maryland. The Severe Thunderstorm Warning though this is still on for calvert and charles and prince georges and i wouldnt let be your guard down yet. The Severe Thunderstorm Warning is certainly on track and headed towards berch on the Storm Tracker 7 47. Has hail and winds over 60 Miles Per Hour and hail the size of pingpong ball and golf balls. Some good news. I agree with letting the Tornado Warning expire but i still think that this is a very dangerous storm to the north of 301 and north of waldorf. And now we have a severe warning until 8 00. Calvert and prince georges and mary. We talked about how Severe Weather doesnt care who is under the watch, it can go anywhere and we have seen the storms go north and south. We have the severe warning for arlington and fair fact and montgomery. A lot of lightning in tyson and hail around four corners in Tysons Corner on the west side of 95 of fair way drive. Old courthouse road. Thats huge hail and it is headed towards tyson. It is going to be a slow drive home. In the beltway and 66. Will zoom back out and get the bearings out there. It is a busy radar. We have got the one storm to the south and that is still the biggest storm of them all. This storm is new and it is intensifying and a pretty big storm now entering Fairfax County, southwest Fairfax County and we have of course the storms to the west so we are not done. Back around 15 and warrington and out leesburg and not far from middlesburg and those are still going to move. If
