Those individuals have to file here in the district of columbia. At the d. C. Employment services office, 11,000 federal workers have signed up online or in person to collect benefits since the shutdown began. How many federal employees work in the city and could file for unemployment . 300,000. Could this office handle that kind of number . No. Congress agreed to pay federal workers for the time spent on furlough. The same workers who collect unemployment checks today will have to pay that money back. If you do get your retroactive license, then you have an over payment with the Unemployment Compensation program. You have to pay your money back. D. C. Mayor gray at an immigration rally on the mall today called on the president and congress to end the budget stalemate. Using a local Contingency Fund is keeping city workers on their jobs to among other things, process federal unemployment claims. The mayor says that emergency money will run out. We have another 7 to 10 days maximum and then what . The question of, is the shutdown going on . If its still going on, and we cant tap other funds, then people will have to wait to be paid.
