Allyson barber is live Allison Barber is live in Upper Marlboro with more. Reporter hey guys we heard hours of testimony today and for the most part, the defendant Dwight Jefferson sat silently and expressionlessly as his former students took the stand to testify against him. Dwight jefferson was the abouting acts principal for only a few months when prosecutors and police say he punched a 13yearold in the face and stomach. That student is now 14. He took the witness stand earlier today and testified that on september 23rd, he was heading to class when the bell rang. Mr. Jefferson stopped him. Sent him to the officer. And later office. And later punched him. Twice in the stomach and once in the face. The state says jefferson was confronting the victim about being late and speaking this respectfully to adults. They used video from the schools hall cameras to establish the timeline but in the room where the assault reportedly took place there were no cameras. At least six witnesses testified that they saw the student with a swollen eye including a teacher and assistant principal. But the school nurse a witness for the defense said she saw the student that day and didnt notice any swelling or injuries. The defense spent much of today trying to convince jurors the victim was not a credible witness. Tea declined to speak with us today but most of their questioning sucked the suggested the student was lying because he disliked jefferson. Placing a trash can in front of him the defense had the victim punch it. To show how hard jefferson hit him. Each time, the trash can fell to the ground. Those kinds of hits they said at so much force the student would surely have hunched over or left the room in visible discomfort but the surveillance videos didnt show that they say.
