Hi there, im first alert meteorologist erica grow. It was a Beautiful Day in the d. C. Metro area. We had a seasonably warm high of 86 degrees, one degree above our average high, but the humidity was low, so it was nice and comfortable to be outside. The direct sunshine always feels a little strong this time of year, but its still very pleasant. Its because of High Pressure that is still in control now. The High Pressure to the north and west of us is bringing us a northerly wind, but we have an area of low pressure on the way. That is going to bring it us a chance for thunderstorms as we head into the weekend, but before the thunderstorms arrive the heat and humidity will come back as well. As we head into overnight tonight well have mostly clear skies. Well have that low humidity staying with us. So its going to be a beautiful night to open up the windows and let in that fresh air, down to 50 thine degrees in bethesda and rockville, 57 in laytonsville, 59 in springfield, 60 in woodbridge, 65 in downtown washington. Coming up well look at 9 futurecast and track the arrival of some thunderstorms that could affect your labor day plans in the first alert sevenday forecast. Im Investigative Reporter russ ptacek, wusa9. Looks so good, ruining a good time. What better way to say good bye to summer than with a labor day heatwave erica is up next with a holiday forecast do not let the gas prices drive you crazy even though its a Holiday Weekend because were saving you money up in columbia, maryland. The most expensive gallon of gas there, exxon on edenbrook drive, a gallon of regular unleaded 3. 79. However, you can save a couple pennies down the street at liberty station on Dobbin Center way, 3. 55 a gallon. Beef prices may be driving you crazy, but you still intend to throw something on the grill. I dont think ive loss the taste for the cow just yet. Beef now on average costs more than 5. 50 a pound at Grocery Stores up 47 since 2009. If youve gone to chipotle lately, youve probably noticed this increase. Theyve raised prices on beef entrees by 8 . Now a professor of agriculture shawn height says the drought out west is the big reason for the increase. In texas and oklahoma where most of the beef in the United States is raised they need grass and the drought in texas is really hurting this. Short supply is another factor for the increase. U. S. Cattle supplies are at their lowest levs since 19 levels since the 1950s. The only station with weather alert days, wusa9 first alert weather. Maybe we need to go meatless a couple days a week. Im a poultry person myself. I dont know if im as our friend shawn might suggest, dont hate. Well look at beautiful sunshine once again tomorrow. We have a beautiful shot of the potomac river. Right now at Reagan National airport its 85 degrees, dew point 55, nice and comfortable. We have a big spread between temperature and humidity. Thats why the retive humidity is so low and a little breeze out of the north. It got a little gusty from time to time today, but thats great because its letting in that cooler drier air from the north. Thats going to lead to a great night to open up the windows and let in that fresh air. As we head into friday, its going to be almost an exact repeat performance of today, sunny and beautiful again, but heat and humidity return for the weekend. Well have to look for the threat of thunderstorms especially on sunday and monday. Right now its down to 81 in frederick, 77 in gaithersburg. That feels nice and refreshing, 82 in manassas and martinsburg and 84 now in luray. On satellite and radar you can see a few clouds off to the west of us, but overall the pattern is very dry. Hurricane cristobal is well out to sea. You can barely see any of the clouds from that system on satellite and radar as well. So that dry air is dominating because of High Pressure centered north of us. It will drift off to the south and east in the next 24 hours. What will happen with that, it will turn the winds to a more southeasterly direction and allow heat and humidity to start to come back along way warm front friday. By the time you wake up saturday morning just partly cloudy, but you will notice a little bit of an increase in the heat and humidity as we head into the later morning. Saturday afternoon thunderstorms firing up north and west of the beltway. We cant rule out a quick stray storm saturday. Sunday looks more active. You can see the front really starting to push in and more cloud cover arriving as well. Its going to stay hot and humid. So those elements all combine for the potential for some thunderstorms on sunday, but overnight tonight no rain in the forecast, clear and beautiful with lows between 56 in the suburbs and 65 downtown. As we head into friday morning, its going to be great, lots of sunshine, temperatures in the 60s and 70s. By afternoon high temperatures will be in the mid80s under mostly sunny skies. Those winds start to become more southeasterly tomorrow afternoon, but the threat for thunderstorms doesnt arrive until saturday afternoon and even then its mostly west of the beltway. A high of 90 degrees and sunday in the 90s as well with scattered showers and thunderstorms. In the first alert sevenday forecast monday is pretty much the same deal, 92 with the threat for some thunderstorms. As you led back to work and the kids head back to work and the kids go back to school tuesday, more thunderstorms are possible, temperatures start to slide back down, but highs will be in the 90s long enough to give us our heatwave here in late august. Cousins may not be playing tonight and the quarterback controversy beginning to simmer. Cousins, however, not getting the big head. Im just trying to do the best i, can keep getting better. I think while there were a lot of good plays in the game saturday night, theres a lot of plays i can look back and say im better than that. You can count out the positives and just as much point out the negatives. Theres a lot of things to work on. Since he took over as commissioner, Roger Goodell has been known as a heavy handed judge. His player conduct policy has scorched many a player. So it caught many by surprise when he seemed to go light on ray rice. Speaking of the ravens, to finish up their preseason slate tonight at new orleans a win and theyre undefeated in fake games which means nothing. However, dont tell Head Coach John Harbaugh who was asked if winning tonights game was important. Yes. I want to win the game. We dont go down there to not win the game, so we are going to do everything we can to win the game. If we walk off that field without the win, im not going to be happy about it. Are we clear about that . Not going to spend a lot of time thinking about it either, no. Doesnt everybody go in wanting to win the game . Tyrod tyrod taylor and colt mccoy for the redskin.
