It was fitting that the under Ground Railroad Visitors Center was officially opened on the eastern shore, the place she called home before escaping to freedom and leading so many others to the promised land. Reporter the Visitors Center is a gateway to the national park, a preserved piece of land where its said tubmans footsteps can still be heard and walking in those footsteps are hundreds of descendents who came here today and walked inside a memorial for the first time. It is where she was struck in the head. Reporter escaped slaves to this store where tubman was shopping. When tubman refused to tie up the slave, he grabbed a two pound weight her. This store has been restored since the days tubman was here. You can get guided tours by bicycle and sky yack from the property. As we headed north, we passed by scotts chapel. It is believed tubman may have worshiped here as a slave with her master. A next step is an important site, the stanley institute. It played a major role in the education of blacks in the area. Reporter back then it was frowned upon to educate blacks. As the caretaker tells us black families made sure their kids got an education anyway. Its a one room school, built in 1865.
