Being deseifed. When an investor contacted him by phone, terry answered a few questions and never heard from him again. This is a developing story well continue following for you. Also tonight, d. C. Democratic congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton Holding president obamas feet to the fire. She is pushing a house bill that would allow the district to use locally raised money during the next few months and today at the white house things got heated. Ken molistina caught up with the d. C. Delegate in the northwest this evening. Reporter she was over here at may flower hotel for a different event. But she was only a few blocks away from here at the white house. Just like you mentioned, she was one of 200 House Democrats meeting with the president , an intimate meeting with them. She was one of the few able to speak to the president directly. When she was given the opportunity to talk to the president and ask questions, she said she ham earped him on a d. C. Budget running on emergency funds that is set to run out soon. Here is what she had to say. I said to this president , mr. President , the district is running out of money to operate this city. What do we do then . And he stopped and he said, well, were not there yet. It demanded a conversation. It demanded me to ask a question and it proceeded like a nice little delegate from the District Of Columbia and i was not seated and the president spoke and forth to me peer to peer. He is not on high. He is a man ive known for some years and i spoke to him as the equal i think i am, to the president of the united states. Clearly she was fired up. But folks, she wasnt the only one. D. C. s mayor vincent gray took on some leaders up at the hill. He was up at the senate steps and hes hear he had to say to harry reid. Take a listen. We are not a part of the government. We are simply trying to spend our own money. Im on your side. Dont screw it up. What does that mean dont screw it up . What do you mean dont screw it up . That was our Bruce Johnson on the hill trying to get some questions to the interaction that we saw. But once again the big question here and the big concern in the district is the funds, district operating on emergency funds to the tune of about 144 million but all of that money is expected to run out early next week if something doesnt happen. So you can understand how tense it is for everyone in the district and the leaders. For now live in downtown d. C. , ken molistina, wusa 9. And Eleanor Holmes norton fired up about it. She was one of about 200 House Democrats and they left with the unified message that didnt seem to offer Much Movement forward. There will be 220, 230 votes to open this government tomorrow. It takes one person to allow that vote to come to the floor and that is speaker boehner. Tomorrow president obama will meet with House Republicans and expected to meet separately with Senate Democrats and republicans. The house has passed 13 bills aimed at funding individual Government Agencies and programs but the senate led by democrats has rejected the piecemeal approach and so has president obama. A Nonprofit Group is stepping in to try to help restore death benefits for military families, benefits halted because of the government shutdown. Today secretary of defense chuck hagel announced that the d. O. D. Is entering an agreement with fisher house foundation. The issue has sparked outrage across the country over the last few days but the fisher house president said he is not interested in pointing any fingers. From our perspective, it is not about assigning blame about why this isnt getting done or who is at fault, it is all about meeting the needs of the families. So in short, the fisher house plans to continue the governments policy of paying 100,000 to the families of the deceased servicemen and women and according to the website, the nonprofit is best known for building houses on the grounds of v. A. Medical centers and so families have a place to stay when their Family Member is receiving treatment. You may have heard about some services and workers are back in business despite being part of the shutdown. So the big question, who decides what stays shut and what doesnt. We asked Debra Alfarone to find out. Figure out the government, this cant be easy. Sometimes it may seem like this is how our country makes its decision. And to be fair, lets take this. He has something he wants to say to you. Tuesday at the national mall, closed to you and me but open to this immigration rally. A spokespersons saying the National Parks service gave it the okay because of their rights under the first amendment. Is that an interpretation . It is a self interpretation. This is a professor at american university. There is the old anti deficiency act passed back in the late 19th century that said you cant run the federal government supposedly without appropriations but there are exceptions. After the deal was made to keep our military paid, the pentagon interpreted the language and determined the 100,000 death benefit paid to those families killed in the action wasnt part of it. The Defense Department has a right to interpret the laws under which it is governed and if you want to challenge it, you have to go to court and that wont happen. The house voted to reinstate that benefit. But they made a deal with fisher house to foot the bill until it gets figured out. It makes us look bad in the eyes of the world. And here is the house gym, but we hear there is no towel service. Debra alfarone, wusa 9. To followup a story we brought you last night. Walt edwards has been fighting a parking ticket he has received. Late this afternoon he received an email from the dmv saying his ticket had been dismissed but he still wants to pursue the perjury charges and that does not explain why weve been getting flooded with emails from others. Some say they were ticketed when they were out of town or their car was parked in their driveway. And weve requested one years worth of tickets by the same officer who gave walt his ticket to see if we can establish a habit. Jc hayward is asking to dismiss her from a named lawsuit filed by the d. C. Attorney general alleging that more than 3 million was misspent while she was the board chair at the options public charter school. And this is a very sensitive case for us here at channel 9 but we are covering it like we would any other case. So weve asked russ ptacek to track it for you. Jc is a friend of mine. That said she is one of the accused and has been relieved of her duties at wusa 9 pending the out come of the lawsuit. While she was chairman of the deals, it was said diverted funds. Her attorney filed a motion saying jc didnt benefit from any deals and if it was going on, she wasnt aware of it. This is options charter public school. Jc haywards filing states, unless other allegations against other defendants there is not a claim she received any financial benefit from options public charter school, arguing the claim of improper financial benefit is not directed to her. But the most reasonable and logical conclusion is that dr. Hayward was a potential victim if such a scheme was carried out. This report shows jc with the other defendants including to her right Donna Montgomery who was not only a director at the options charter but was also at the same time, ceo of eemc and a Second Company getting collectively more than 3 million in school contracts. The filing doesnt address the district claim that jc incorporated one of the companies that allegedly benefited from the deals. Jcs attorney is has been a frequent analyst on wusa 9. He did not respond to our request for comments. I left a message for jc. She hasnt called back. We reached out to other Co Defendants and the attorney general. So far no responses. But the most symbolic victory is that they won by 21 points, the same number worn by their fallen teammate. And last year Robert Griffin iii explained why they gave up so much to get him. He took a huge halftime lead and the cowboys were down 25 at half rallied and the defense stepped up and the redskins held on for a victory. Number two, back in 2005, joe gibbs called this one of the biggest thrills of his career. Redskins had lost 25 straight games and trailing after three quarters but not this day.
