Now investigators are looking for 29 year old avery valentinbair, a person of interest of this case. People at last nights vigil were stunned to hear that torez was killed, they tell us he was a good kid, who seemed focused on his future. He was a good kid, no problem, always got straight aas, like nothing was wrong. He had a job. He just got a car. He went to school. Last person i think it would ever happen to, one of the greatest kids on this block. Never, never bothered nobody, never. Perez again just 16 years old, tenth grader at reading high school. Police later found her purse, on the roof of a nearby building. Investigators are calling the man and in this Surveillance Video a person of interest. Yes, my husband has to work a lot because, you know, he has to work extra hard so that i can be at all of their therapy and do what i have to do to take care of them. So she is always usually tagging along with mow. Even, you talk about even kids at school, and to have friend, important to encourage your kids to reach out to other kids, right . Autistic kinds, to be bull mid school that that of their typical tears, message of acceptance that it is great to see stories of inclusion, that you see all over the news all the time. But, in my future world, i would lick it see a world where those arent stories, all kids are included based on their differences and their own unique, we need the autistic, or else we wouldnt have the invention that we have. Hard in the neighborhood to keep friend, as women, because when you bring your kids over to their home, the word that theyll break things, have you lost friends . Yes. Wow. But weve gained really awesome friends, who specially were in a small community, very tightknit community. And everyone is very excepting of them. And they destroy pretty much everything in peoples houses, and people, they eat christmas decorations. How has this been on your caughter . It is exhaust to go watch her. I just feel so terrible. You never want to see anyone in your family suffer. We new when she was just little that there was Something Different about her. And then to have them, add line, and every autistic child is totally different, like snowflakes. And so you cant treat them all the same. And theyre hard to get to know even. You talk even the little things, i dont know if i hug her, am i hugging her too smart is it too soft . Everything, you know, in our world is kind of assault on their sensory system, sometimes they dont want to be touched. They dont want to be kissed. You know, sometimes we get a kick in the face. But you never know if you are doing the right thing because you know sometimes being out is too overwhelming, going places, and all of my kids are nonverbal. They cant tell me whats bothering them. So ive had to follow my gut with a lot of things as far as communication, and kind of figure out what bothers them, what doesnt. Like for add line, lights bother her. We picked that out because in school she kept turning the lights out on her teacher. Since you put this on facebook, have you had an outpouring of support, and fellow parents, who have this in their home, sharing their stories, and Commission Rating with you . Yes. But ever since initial diagnosis, i have been very open and forthcoming and kind of an open book about what our life has been like, because i think key to their success the pun is aware, more acceptance, and people just, you know, thinking a little bit when you see something naught public that you are not so quick to judge, and you are more understanding and caringment and i feel like it is important that employers know, too, for the future so that they can be hired, and they can have successful lives as adult, than my husband and i dont have to worry about when no longer here if theyre taken care of. In your book there is cora, trying to leave georgia, an actual Railroad Tracks conductors, engineers, sort of talk about that difference in reality and your book. Yes, i think a lot of times when we are, a lot of us when kids, hear about the railroad, underground railroad, envision a subway, i am from new york, yes, of course my teacher corrected me pretty quickly, but yes, just started from what it actually was, real railroad. And then every stop, different state that she goes through, as she escapes, is a different alternative america. Like what could have been, what might have happened. So it becomes like it delivers travels type journey through different paths in american history. What do you say to the people out there who would criticize the book and say, because i have heard this conversation before, this is the past. Lets leaf it there. We dont need to talk about it, why cant we just let it go . Of course not knott the past. A loft us we think about how we learned about race, and elementary school. Dont get the fact. Maybe one hour on slavery existed, then lincoln tame, it is over, or jim crow, and never Martin Luther king came. And we dont spend enough time talking about the real history of race in america. Do you think there is sort of camouflage racism that this story tells, that sort of exists today that people arent willing to admit . Camouflaged, no accident that we have a first africanamerican president , and then we have a candidate who has unleashed or harness dollars a lot of pent up racist energy. And so we dont learn. We plot along as people, resistant to change, and i think we do progress in tiny ways, as a country. We are also resistant to thinking about things and putting things in perspective. Considering the current climate right now, when you see the black lives matter movement, we had the civil rights movement, now our new movement. Do you think your book comes at really good time . Good question. Because of the timing, but for me, growing up as an africanamerican, in this country, the fact that we have a severe Police Brutality problem is not new. I think Technology Allows new conversation, whether it is in the 50s, television cameras, bringing civil rights workers, being beaten and hosed down, and into peoples homes, allowing us to have new conversation, will it is camcorder technology, 1990, rodney king getting beaten, then we have two years of conversation, so i think were in the midst of that with cell phones bringing new reality of violence in your homes.
