And first look inside news roomy remember watching. Ted baxter. I was going to wear my powder blue suit today. With the fox 29 logo . Here now the news. Spunk, spunk. Well, it all started at 25watt radio station, we could go on and on, but we do need to tell you whats going on with the werth. We will be getting few showers this morning, just not yet. We start off with number of the day, going down to a six, because that chance of showers and the winds that will kick up later on in the day, it is a cloudy sky out there right now. You see when you look toward western and central pennsylvania, we do have some showers on the way, maybe couple of sprinkles, in Lancaster County right now. It is 44 degrees, in philadelphia, 38 in mount pocono, 39 degrees in lancaster, look how mild it is to the south of us, 52 in dover, and wildwood. About 12 degrees above average already, with calm winds, we dont have windchill to talk about today, so 44, it feels like 44, sunrise is at 7 14 this morning. Some sun out there, breezy, probably get to the early high of 57 degrees, then the winds will really pick up after the frontal systems comes through, 5 14 is our sunset time. Weekends almost here. Weve got your forecast coming up. Bob kelly . Sue, busy day ahead of us before we get to the weekend. We just mentioned, republican retreat. Get ready for detours, protests, of course motorcade madness here. Now the whole event is taking place right up the street from our station at 12th and market at the loews hotel, officially the closures were set to go in to effect at 8 00 a. M. That will be 12th street, between chestnut and arch. Thirteenth, chestnut to market. And market from 11th up to city hallment basically anything, city hall east toward the river here, watch for detours. Again, these detours and closure point will expands as we go through the morning depending upon the situation. There are no parking signs all around that area, the ppa is out and about, and theyll be ready to enforce along with the ppa, the state police, Philadelphia Police, and the secret service. So if you are coming into center city today, mass transit is probably going to be your best bet. The market frankford line runs underground. Thats your best bet. The only difference for the market frankford is it is not going to stop at the 13th street station. Septa is detouring all of the bus routes east of city hall. Same thing with new Jersey Transit. The market frankford line is going to bypass 13th street, your best bet into and out of the market frankford line would be using the 11th or the 15th street stations, same deal with all of the septa subway surface trolleys. Karen, back over to you. Busy morning, bob. And we are getting ready of course for Donald Trumps first visit to our city as president security on very high alert, making sure the republican congressional retreat is safe. Before the president can even get a his feet on the ground protesters already making their voices heard. Hundreds gathered outside the loews hotel where the retreat is happening in center city last night. Thousands more are expected today. We have our crews all over the city preparing for the commander in chiefs visit. Jenny joyce will have more on the protests, but our Team Coverage begins with steve keeley. Good morning, steve. Reporter well, this retreat began yesterday. So far day one was aokay. Lots of security. Before everything shutdown, this is about as calm and as clear as this will look. We just got couple of trouble makers you may here in the background have Nothing Better to do. Lot of security. Chris will step toward Market Street little bit. Gave you a sense of the line of cars. Look at the barricades up and down Market Street. No jay walking today. The sad part about this is this is central spot for morning commuters who take trains here, then come up on the sidewalk, then take buses throughout the city to get to work. So they all have to figure out a new way. The trains will not let people off here. Chris will step now toward me. And look down 12th street. Lots more security. These are armored swat vehicles, unmarked vehicles, a loft them from washington, but a lot of them on loan from Pennsylvania State police, and Philadelphia Police, as well. So, the loews hotel, not sounding like it is the place to have a retreat. Usually they use the green briar out in West Virginia which is country club kind of thing out of the way and in the mountains, but here we are in a big city. Donald trump only president for less than a week and this is his first trip out of washington, d. C. Weve got Peyton Manning here. We have the british Prime Minister here. We have whole lot of things happening today. Donald trump, if you are wondering, he doesnt come to the middle of the day. Were told 11 30, then speaks at 1 30. So thats probably going to be the height of the protest, guys. That is what we expect most certainly, steve, thank you. And Congressional Republicans started putting together aggressive 200day agenda during the first day of the retreat. So their plans include acting on healthcare repeal bill by the end of march and rewriting the tax code by august. As President Trump prepares to write that retreat, protesters geeing up for another day of demonstrations the lets get right to jenny joyce and all of that, jenny . Reporter good morning, karen. Today we are expect to go see protesters in the thousands. Yesterday there were hundreds of people who took Market Street last night for the protest. We saw them dancing in the street with using their moves to send their message across the minds of lawmakers in town for the gop congressional retreat. The antitrump group is angry about a number of policies the president is actively work to go put in place. This week alone there has been talk and Movement Regarding issues like immigration, healthcare reform, abortion, international trade, and the environment with plans to revive the keystone and dakota pipelines. Philly police say all day we can expect a Significant Police presence, with officers on foot, bikes, motorcycles, and in cruisers with the job thats twofold, protecting the president , and the protesters. We have an obligation to ensure the safety of the people who live and work here, and visit here, as well, and the protesters. Obviously the dignitaries that are visiting, as well. Up in the up until the fact you break the law, thats a different story, we will take appropriate action. That wont be tolerated. Reporter yesterday i talked with chief inspector joe sullivan who said their job is to create a safe environment for protesters to be heard, people are angry, and it is a good thing to let the protesters event their feelings, however, if criminals show up in their place, police will be prepared to handle them. So the First Permanent protest is scheduled for 11 00 this morning, it will start at Thomas Payne Plaza around the corner here, off broad street, and will work it way toward the loews hotel. Several more protesters that did not file for official permits are also expected to be seen later today. Karen, thomas . You got to believe well see a lot of that. Thomas coming along at 6 00. Keep it here for the president s visit to philadelphia, as well as all of those protests, you can find updates all day long right on fox29. Com. And speaking of the president , first 100 days, he is taking aim now at illegal immigration, signing more executive orders on wednesday making good on some of his Campaign Promises stripping federal grant money from sanctuary cities like philadelphia. Mayor kenney said the feds will get no more cooperation than they already get in deporting people. We turn dangerous people over to them when there is a warrant. And a warrant is not a difficult thing for federal government to get. Immigrant population is not the source of crime. They are often the victims of crime or the witnesses to crime and driving them underground does not make the city safe. Immigration expert and Civil Liberties groups are doubtful President Trump has the Constitutional Authority to strip federal grant money from sanctuary cities. And the president also signed executive order to build a wall on the border with mexico. During a interview with abc news he reiterated his vow that mexico will pay for that wall. He didnt exactly say how. Will american taxpayers pay for the wall . Ultimately it will come out of whats happening with mexico. We will be starting those negotiations relatively soon. And we will be in a form reimbursed by mexico. 100 . The president of mexico condemns the administrations actions, and counters that vowing that his country will not pay for that wall. Mexico does not believe in wall. I have said time and time again, mexico will not pay for any wall. The mexican president says hes now reconsidering a trip that had been planned to come to our country next week. President trump said he expect construction on that wall to start in the coming month. There is a local grandmother and she was just outside of her home, all the sinned, attacked, brought down and ravaged by dogs. They were really eating her. They were eating her. Oh, how sad. Coming up next, her neighbors could not believe their eyes, but they didnt stand by and watch. They jumped in to save that 96 year old woman. Thank you oh, her tv family most certainly was her family, so she had spunk, could turn her world on with that smile. The life and legacy of mary tooler moore. Hi, bob. Good morning, everybody, 4 10 this thursday morning. The turnpike connector bridge remains closed to vehicle traffic. And lets take a live look at the ben franklin parkway, as the president ial motorcades going to get a little wet coming into philly. Sue has the forecast, well check the jam cams when we come right back. Welcome back, four have 13, very busy thursday morning. Taking a live look at philly international. Of course, our president will be coming to town, and around the 11 00 hour, it will be wheels down in our area. Lets get a check of the forecast. Sue says we will have a spot of rain on this day. Hey, sue . I think most of it will come early in the day because there is a cold front that is bearing down, getting closer and closer with much chillier air behind it. We all loved yesterday. But it is going to be short lived. The mild air is still in place right now, relatively speaking to what time of year it is, of course. So thats waist going on with that. Our low pressure system of course, long gong, from monday. The possibility of couple of scattered showers out there toward lancaster and berks county, probably not much, but our future cast shows that by 6 00, were seeing some scattered showers to the south, at least on this computer model. Say between 6 00 and 7 00 showers move in. Continue through the next couple of hours. It is not going to amount to much. 10 of an inch if that, and then we get sunshine back this afternoon. The wind will pick up behind that front. You will really feel the difference with the winds blowing around maybe 35 Miles Per Hour later on. 44 degrees in philadelphia, right now. Thirtyeight in mount pocono. Keep in mind, normal high by the way is 40 degrees. It is already 52 in wildwood and dover. Like we said, dont get used to it, winds are very calm right now, there it is, your average hi, 40 degrees, been above average high for quite a while. Today we make it up to 55 or so, yesterday 54, before the cold front comes through, and the winds pick up later on in the day. 44 degrees tomorrow. Then, 42 saturday. It is actually quite seasonable weekend, with temperatures that are in the lower 40s, but gets even chillier than that as we head into the last few days of january, monday and tuesday, february begins on wednesday. Bob kelly . Good morning, sue. 4 15, we look live at the ben franklin bridge, coming into philadelphia, keep in mind, even though you may not be traveling through center city, the closures, and the motorcade closures are going to cause domino effect like here on the ben franklin when the president , Vice President , and the Prime Minister make their way from the airport in toward philadelphia. The first motorcades will start to roll at around 11 30, also going to see some extra volume, and air stoppages, at Philadelphia International airport. Whenever the president , Vice President arrive, there is the 15 minute stoppages of air traffic, and of course. That will just have quick domino effect down at the airport. Traveling in to center city throughout the day really will be rough. This whole retreat is taking place at the loews hotel as we mentioned, closures septa goes into effect at 8 00. Basically city hall, Market Street, headed east toward the river, portions of 12th street, and 13th street, also will be closed, as we saw in steves shot the metal barricades, along the sidewalks, which will prevent people from crossing the street, even at the corners, there is no parking signs, the ppa will be out to enforce it. If you need to come into center city today, the best bet is mass transit. The market frankford line is the way to go t runs underground it, will not be impacted by any of the motorcade closures, or any of the protests, the only change is that the market frankford line is not going to stop at the 13th street station. It will bypass 13th, and go right to city hall. Getting on the market frankford line, you can enter the subway there at 11th street, or the 15th street Dilworth Plaza station, the broad street subway is not impacted at all by todays event. All of the septa bus route that roll in and out of center city, any of the bus route east of city hall will be on detour. There is about 15 of them. We have a list up on my facebook page, and of course septas page, new Jersey Transit buses will all be detoured east of city hall. Again if you need to come into center city, either mass transit or pacca snack for the ride and be ready for a delay. The turnpike connector bridge remains closed today to vehicle traffic. Again that is all because of the beam crack we found on friday. 4 17. Man accused of an attack in Chestnut Hill is now behind bars. This is such a disturbing crime. Prosecutors have charged 20 year old James Bradley with robbery, assault, unlawful restraint. They say he got into a home on east Chestnut Hill avenue through unlock door saturday morning. The victims in this case are husband and wife. They tell police that the suspect pointed a gun at the husband, while the wife was sexually assaulted. At some point she was able to grab the gun, tried to shoot the suspect but the gun didnt go off. Bradley took off in the victims carp, but left a clue behind. What led to his arrest was processed the crime scene, we did recover a septa transpass that was left outside in the yard, or the driveway area, where the vehicle was stolen from. Police say septa was vital in helping them to catch that suspect. Then there is 96 year old woman in the hospital and shes got life threatening injuries after she was mauled by two dogs, it happened in east germantown. Their pitbulls, now seized and are facing euthenasia. The attack happened behind some row homes in the 5800 block of brush road yesterday. Witnesses say this woman was simply sweeping up an alleyway when somehow the dogs got loose, from the neighbors house, describe the attack, we do want to warn you the details are disturbing. They were really eating her. They were eating her, in her head, and that was a site, and another was in her face. It was horrible. Then she wasnt moving. Oh. One of the neighbors ran out with a broom handle and began to pry those dogs off that 96 year old. Philadelphia police have questioned the pets owners, so far, no charges have been filed. More than 100 violent offenders now off the streets, here are some their faces, big sweep that happened in new jersey yesterday. Many Law Enforcement groups in new jersey attorney general, announcing coordinated effort between the ags office, new jersey state police, authorities say, on top of the arrest, they also got a lot of guns and drugs. This work is by definition tied to our antiaddictive anybody touches, as well, because unfortunately much of the gun violence that we see in our community stems directly or indirectly from the drug trade. He is able to answer . Two of the guys wanted for murder, this operation is still ongoing. Police say officers were called to the school after a group of girls started fighting yesterday, there were multiple injuries. We dont know the ages of the people involved or their conditions. Police say we dont know what started the fight, but the school is working with Law Enforcement. State leaders are trying to keep kids in school a little longer in delaware. The dropout rate, the house introduced bill to increase the minimum age of required School Attendance from 16 to 17, lawmakers hoping this will help more kids get their high school diplomas. Also this week, they approved bill to require at least one Computer Science course. Now that legislation heads to the senate. Coming up at 4 30, theyve got that singing feeling. Imagine opening your front door and seeing this . A huge crater. Right in front of your house. Dangerously close to all of those homes. Look at the pickup truck. So what people in that area, and a lot of them, are being asked to do right now. This is fox 29 sports in one minute. Thousands of protesters are planning to show their brotherly love from the road closures to security. Weve got Team Coverage how this president ial visit will impact your day. Plus battling those parking wars. There is a new law that may prevent you from being towed. Thank you. Oh, we loved her. Remembering acting legend Mary Tyler Moore pioneering the role of women on television and inspiring so many generations. Good day everybody, on this thursday. It is already january 26th. You know what it is today . Whats today . Spouses day. Okay . People sending pictures of their spouses, little billy v there. I got an idea. There is an idea. Hey, hon. I good morning. Good morning, good start, maybe little bit of raindrops on our heads. Not much. But enough that you will briefly need your umbrella this morning, then you will need to hold on to your hat this afternoon after the rain goes away. So giving this one a six out of ten for your thursday, you see, when you look at radar, out to the west, little green in the central part of pennsylvania, few showers in advance of that front, maybe sprinkling into Montgomery County this morning. Right now the temperature is 44 degrees in philadelphia. It is 39 in lancaster, 38 in mount pocono. Down in wildwood, and dover, 52 degrees on a january morning. Needless to say, unusual. Calm winds out there this morning, and here, as we look at our neighborhood, in old city, it is 44 degrees with sunrise at 7 14 this morning. And 5 14 is sunset. So, yes, by the end of the day, wind will be gusting up to 35 miles an hour, you may have to run after your trash cans if it is it is your trash day, but dont get used to the 50s, bob kelly, it will be chillier by the weekend. 4 30, nice and quiet right now, as we look live downtown philly. Live look at the vine st. Expressway, vine st. Local. A lot of motorcades will be taking over the vine expressway and i95 throughout the day, of course, republican retreat here in town. All taking place at the loews hotel. Thats the spot, 12th and market, the road closures are going into effect at 8 00 a. M. They already have some of the sidewalks blocked already. So again, 12th street, between chestnut and arch, 13th blocked, chestnut over to market, and market pretty much from city hall down toward the river here. There is already the no parking signs around that area and the ppa, already out and about, enforcing the no parking rules. If you really must come into the city, this morning, the best way to go is the market frankford line. That runs on time. It is underground, well have no issues at all with any protests, or any shutdowns, motorcades, the only change is that the market frankford line is not going to stop at the 13th street station. And if you need to enter the market frankford subway, you can use either 11th street or the 15th street Dilworth Plaza. Dilworth plaza station is going to be the main one here, use to get off the train and back on. All of the septa bus routes are detoured, east of city hall, you can go to septa. Org, take your bus route it, will give you the official detour. All of the trolley route for septa, not stopping at 13th street. So theyre going to originate at 15th street, for the route, and as far as the roadways, good shape. Just remember the turnpike connector bridge remains closed. Karen, back over to you. Bob, thank you, 4 32, it is day two of the republican congressional retreat. President trump is making his first visit to our area, as president , along with many other lawmakers, weve got live Team Coverage of the commander in chiefs visit. Jenny joyce is covering the protesters, and we start with steve keeley. Steve . Good morning. Reporter ive got my eye on everybody, Walking Around my head on swivel today. Because there is a guy out here harassing everybody, even the guy just trying to deliver the inquirer over here. So people are out here with signs and loud voices already, and a lot of times their voices arent saying kind words. So there is a corner of 12th and market, and loews hotel. You can see lot of police cars, marked police carls, lots every Unmarked Secret Service vehicles and state Police Vehicles and philly police swat vehicles. This is probably going to be one of the last looks you get after clear street. Bob kelly by the way 6 00 a. M. Is the word im getting around here that the shutdowns will start. So a lot sooner than 8 00 a. M. So that means big chunk of the rush hour is going to be affected whether you are walking or driving around here. Theyre going to jim henry is the Field Office Director of the secret service, and he says the secure perimeter, there you see a dog, and an officer right now. The secure perimeter will really bolt down around 6 00 all around the loews hotel, even around the other side of that block that the lows hotels is on. So theyve got all this corners covered, and this was a bank, if you recall, this was the public psfs building, pennsylvania savings fund society. So it was already a secure building to begin with before they convert philadelphia to a hotel. They still even have the vaults in there. So theyre doing the checks, all of the trash cans have been replaced, those metal trash cans are all sealed up days in advance, and so they are ready for anything. See how the streets empty right now . They expect thousands to fill Market Street and it will fill it likely for more than just one block out front. This is not a wide street. If you saw those numbers down in d. C. , both on friday and saturday, you can imagine, even just a fraction of the numbers they had people in d. C. For, that shows you that from city hall maybe even down to where we are, they may have people locking this street down. So dont be surprised and one thing i noticed, this was not publicized, even the streets around Philadelphia Police headquarters are being blocked from anybody parking there today. Because they expect that they have to arrest people, as we saw during the occupy protest, protest may move to police headquarters, as well, so they are ready for anything down that way, too. And thats several blocks from here, at seventh and race. So, protesters dont just do their thing where they have a permit to protest across from city hall, thats why the secret service is really in charge of protecting the president and philly and state police all have a security plan to handle any huge mob filling Market Street here. So the height of security and concern of the events come early this afternoon, when the president is scheduled to arrive, and its trumps first trip as president away from dc since he was sworn in last friday, and so it is the first chance to both meet with his party to try and agree on united plan to do what they want to do right away, in terms of legislation, but it is also the first chance for all those angry and upset people we saw down in washington over the weekend, and big numbers to show their feelings, signs, and let their voices be heard, and more compact spot here in philadelphia and a way different setting than the countrys capitol. So talking to police yesterday, i was told they are expecting anything, and being prepared for anything. Karen . Steve, thanks. Lets talk a lot more about both of those things, the protest and the plans. Congressional republicans started putting together aggressive two hyundai agenda. Plans include acting and repeal bill, and rewriting the tax code by august. And you talk about there is going to be thousands of picket signs, when the president arrives in center city. Demonstrators are gathering for a second day to protest his administrations agenda. Lets get to jenny joyce with what we can expect. Jenny, good morning. Good morning, karen, so the first protest is not scheduled to begin until 11 00 this morning. Thats the first and only believed to be permitted protest. But we know that there will be additional protests throughout the day that did not seek official permits. Last night, the crowds danced in protest and hope to move their message across the minds of law makers in town for the gop congressional retreat. Antitrump group is angry about number of policies, the president is actively working to put in place. In preparation for protests last night and today, local Police Working with the fbi and secret service to make sure that both the president of the United States and the protesters are safe out here. While police are used to handling big crowds in the city, most recently, last weekends, 50,000 people on the parkway for the womens march, and last summer at the dnc. Police anticipate these crowds could be large, and even more passionate. Police will use number every Community Policing tactics, placing plane clothes Civil Affairs officers in with the crowds and mobilizing several officers on bikes foray prepare. And quick access in the event after issue. You still try to look at every possible thing, get as much intelligence as you can. We dont approve of Donald Trumps election. We dont approve of the policies that he and the gop are putting for the. Reporter and yesterday chief inspector joe sullivan of the ppd Home Security bureau said we will not see police out here in riot gear for these events that send combative message. Police want the protestors to know that theyre allowing them to do what they need to do to let their voices be heard as long as it does not compromise the safety and security of others. So of course today police, their goal zero arrests, zero confrontations, karen. Good history of certainly managing a big events with the dnc and so many other. Thank you, jenny. Keep it here for complete coverage of whatever happens on this day, the president ial visit, protest, traffic issues, you can check it all on our website fox29. Com. And dozens of people, theyre still without water after this massive sinkhole opened up in Montgomery County. You can see the pickup truck almost falling in. Crater estimated to be 30 to 35 feet deep. And dangerously close to some homes. And theyre blaming water main break. The main that we had is 6inch water line, it was just about underneath of the sidewalk, which is collapsed. And so thats why theyre out of water. I didnt know what to think. Pretty crazy. Could have authorities anyone. We werent sure how far it was going to go, expand. So sort of chicken and egg thing. They dont know if it was the water main break that led to the sinkhole or the other way around. But nonetheless, crews are still trying to get the water back to 65 homes in the area. Road closures go in at 8 00. But the no parking and pedestrians kick in at 6 00 a. M. And again, all of this is subject to change when the secret service and the fbi and at police are all involved. This was their game plan, as of yesterday. If you are coming into the area around 12th and market being be ready for something different, obviously this morning, the road closures, Market Street, from pretty much city hall all the way down to 11th, portions every 12th and 13th streets, as well, the market frankford line is the way to go.
