The day after a winter storm that surprised a lot of us, all of us saw snow but not as much as we were expecting in new england, however the storm came in as advertised dumping feet of snow with Hurricane Force winds flooding and homes destroyed. Here in philadelphia, a lot of people braced for what was shaping up as a potentially historic storm that fizzled out. So what happened . Heres chief meteorologist Scott Williams. Well what happened it was a bust iain and lets talk about the dynamics that really took place across our area. The area of low pressure, it is intensified rapid the it but too far to the east. A lot of rising air. Also, to the west there was a trough that developed somewhat robbing our area of some of that moisture potential making its way a little farther to the west. Putting us in syncing air as well as drier conditions. So that trough to the west kept the store a little farther to the east by 50, 60 miles making a big difference in our totals. It also took longer for that snowfall to develop with the intensity rates giving us a shorter window of opportunities for accumulating snow and once again when we saw some of that snow coming down, with that sinking air the drier air in place, we didnt see a whole lot of accumulating snowfall with those impressive totals. With that said we saw 10inches in brick ocean county. Trenton picked up about four. Northeast philadelphia picked up two pent 5inches and a little over two in philadelphia. Temperatures right now in the low 30s. But they will be dropping and its going to get bitterly cold out there. Ill talk about how cold it gets and, yes that s word is in the forecast. The big news here that we just got in the state of Massachusetts GovernorCharlie Baker announcing that the travel ban will be lifted at midnight all day long for the eastern part of the state you havent been able to get out on the roads unless you were an essential person in some marne work wig the government to make sure everything runs smoothly or emergency worker or your job to clear the streets. These are the streets of boston theyre pretty clear because only a few cars are allowed to get out on them. A ton of pedestrians actually seems like more people walk through the streets than there are actual vehicles which is a good thing because theyre trying to get those roads cleared up. A lot of floodings specially south of the city an inch to several feet in low lying areas that frequently flood during a big winter storm and this is certainly one of those storms where we actually have seen some flooding much lucy . Were looking at Single Digits pretty much area wide so this is how you should dress bundle up in layers and of course we are going to look at dry conditions during the day tomorrow a lot of sunshine but deceptive sunshine feels like temperatures by this tomorrow tomorrow in the teens as well as feeling like the 20s. So bitter cold overnight. Crank that heat. Sunshine, dry but cold for the middle of the week and light snow is possible thursday night into early friday with a clipper thats going to be moving through. But were clearing out. You can see south and west of us were looking at a lot of sunshine today. We still have some clouds as you move north and east of philadelphia. But were not looking at any more precipitation. So a lot of sunshine tomorrow but once again it will be cold. So bundle up as we move the clock ahead to watch our next system were dry and quite thursday morning.
