It is a miracle that no one survived in this fire but the problems are just beginning for more than 1,000 residents left homeless. Officials are crediting fast work of more than 501st responders. It looked as if the flames were touching the sky. The inferno destroyed 240 apartments and severely damaged at least 168 more in the Avalon Edgewater complex. No one died or was severely injured. Some surrounding apartments and homes were also affected. Officials say 500 people from the avalon complex were burned out and 520 from surrounding homes and apartments. Investigators are trying to figure out what set it off. Its not an indication of anything suspicious or we believe theres a problem. A fire this magnitude is an automatic response for the arson squad. Reporter firefighters from 35 different municipalityies responded to the inferno. Including 2fdny fire boats to help pump water. Fire alarms and sprinkler systems worked in the complex and help get all residents out safely. With those changing temperatures were looking at snow, were looking at sleet even some periods of freezing rain far north and west and also rainfall rainfall. Strong gusty winds along the coastal sections as well and once again its going to all be about those temperatures. So heres friday at 11 00 p. M. Were watching that area of low pressure move up from the delmarva peninsula the green is rain. The pink is the sleet and freezing rain and where you see that blue and purple that is snow. But look at our temperatures by 1 00 a. M. Were at 34 degrees in philadelphia. So its going to start out as a wet snow overnight friday into Early Saturday Morning. And then were going to watch that rain move into south jersey sections of delaware, keeping those temperatures borderline really the entire event heres 9 00 a. M. You can see starting to change over to rain around philadelphia. And then as it intensifies it will likely change back over to a mix as that moisture pulls away and intensifies moving that noreaster toward new england. But by that time, when that really cold air starts to move in that system is going to be moving out of here. So as we take another look at this area of low pressure, you can see the green that is the rain. Where see that blue that is the accumulateing snowfall. So really elevation is going to determine the amount of snow as well. So as you move toward the mountains of west virginia, likely four to six or more inches as well as sections of boston. We could see a quick one to 2inches in sections of delaware and south jersey before changing over to rain. I95 north and west two to four slushy inches of snowfall likely out of this system because those temperatures are simply not going to be cold enough to support all snow throughout the entire even. Temperatures today topped out in the low 40s. Upper 30s right now if youre stepping outdoors and as we look at temperatures area wide, mid to upper 30s across the board. For tonight well call it mostly clear. There could still ab few patchy slick spots out there temperatures in the 20s. 40 degrees will be the High Temperature tomorrow. Pretty nice day once again. That precipitation does and really start to arrive until after midnight as we move into your Early Saturday Morning. Starting out as snow, changing over to some sleet.
