Septa lawyers took one look at their Security Camera footage of a man seemingly launching himself out of a chair in the transit agencys headquarters lobby and says general counsel Geno Benedetti came to quick conclusion. Our first reaction is that he fabricated the incident. Reporter reyes santiago had fired filed a perm injury lawsuit against septa claiming the defective back of a plastic and metal chair had broken or separated causing him to suddenly and violently fall. But that ceiling mounted camera told very different story. We didnt see any sign of any defect or any problem with the chair. We saw someone trying to stage an accident. Reporter just few floors above that lobby, septa runs a massive monitoring operation. Every time an accident claim is made, workers can pull up footage from any of 24,000 cameras system wide and see whether the alleged victim is telling the truth. So we know what happened. We know if we did something wrong. And we also know if we didnt do anything wrong. Reporter over the past five years, those cameras have helped reduce the number of personal injury lawsuits filed against septal by nearly three quarters. Pay outs over the past five years have dropped by 54 million. When compared to the previous five years.
