Robert councilmano is 42 years old, fit and in tenth. Looking at it now it is hard to tell how much trauma he had has seen since he was young. Roberts childhood wasnt pretty, his father committed suicide when he was just ten. His stepfather beat him and his mother relentlessly. I have one vivid memory of him beating my mom, and we had front gate to park the the car. From the tv down to the stairs. Punched holes in the wall. My brother was beat. That went on for 13 years. Reporter robert joined the marines in 1991 to escape the abuse and find a purpose but things got worse. He was always getting into fights and could not get along with others. He was honorably discharged in 1996. Next he tried college but he was always fighting with professors and unable to maintain any healthy relationships. So he went looking for answers at a va hospital and learned that he had ptsd. The the thought were going through my head schizophrenic, that is kind of genetic. Reporter cosmo as he is known, also learned he was bipolar. That really rocked me because, you know, bipolar and medications they gave me made me a zombie and a different person. Reporter three years ago cosmo found the martial arts and it has done what medications cannot. I have an outlet. It is great. Im not going to stop. Reporter cosmo trains at princeton martial arts five to six times a week and the work has paid off. He is a purple belt already and currently ranked third in the world. It has change his life. It has got a lot of therapeutic qualities to it. When they come through the doors of the school it is like they go into ought a owe pilot and every fear worry, crazy thing stops at the door. Reporter cosmo says martial arts give him a sense of comradery just like when he was in the marine core. It is a family thing. You have to trust these people. You are placing your early in a situation where you can get hurt. Same thing, you cannot trust the the person behind you, god forbid something can happen. These right here are good just as big one notch under world. Cosmo isnt just excelling at martial arts. That is world, i took second in that. Reporter he want to inspire other veterans.
