Death of a philadelphia firefighter is behind sweeping new changes to the way cruise battle fires. Lieutenant joyce craig was a mother of two and two years ago she became the first female firefighter philadelphia firefighter to die in the line of duty. Reporter lucy, the attorneys also say that the report is far from the final word on what happened why and how those are responsible should be held accountable. They say those questions will be answered by a jury during trial. Her death shook the philadelphia Fire Department hard. Lieutenant joyce craig 11 year veteran of the department died working a fire in the basement of this home at 1655 middleton street in West Oak Lane in december of 2014. Now more than two and a half years later, the philadelphia Fire Department and National Institute for Occupational Safety and health had a brand new reports on what they believe caused her death. According to the federal report a hose supplying lieutenant craig with oxygen had burned through. There were problems with how her colleagues responded to her seven emergency distress signals. The report also cites a failure to quickly deploy an intervention team. The Fire Department reports says lack of Situational Awareness and adequate communications poor strategy and tactics and uncoordinated rescue effort all up directly caused her death. Attorneys representing the estate of lieutenant craig released a statement monday night they say the federal report supports the claims in their pending lawsuit. They believe lieutenant craig would have survived if her protective and lifesaving equipment functioned properly. And the Fire Department says its already made changes based on those reports.
