Fox 29s Shawnette Wilson live in northeast philadelphia and shawnette, its hard to see hyped you but it looks like a tree fell into a car. Reporter lucy, it was a close call for people who live on this street. Take a look behind movement one woman says she had just gotten out of this car. Another said she had just left her porch when the tree snapped in half. Sounded like bomb, a big bomb. Reporter this woman got the scare of her life when this tree came crashing down just after she and her two year old daughter got out of the car. Like 30 seconds before it happened. I grab my daughter and i went inside and come back to get my stuff out of my car. Reporter she says with the rain came strong winds. A signal that something was going to happen. Once inside her home, here on newtown avenue in northeast philadelphia, she says she could hear the damage as it happened. Very scary. Just me and my daughter. She was screaming like crazy. I have to just grab her and go to the back room. Reporter right next door her neighbor sally and her children were on the porch but went inside because the rain got too heavy. The same tree took down wires and damaged part of her proper property. Pulled down a couple of sections of fencing and part of our porch roof. Reporter in other parts of the northeast similar damage. On 600 block of brighton the storm knocked this tree in the road and around bustleton avenue power is out. Despite the damage, neighbors say they are lucky. We had a lot of protect. Thats for sure. Reporter and back here live, neighbors tell me they dont know when this damage is going to be cleared. In the meantime, wires are down here on this block. Some neighbors say they have power. Now it looks pretty bad but people who live here say theyre just happy nobody was hurt. Storm clouds rolling in to Chester County thursday evening. Dumping rain and winds so swift they brought down this large limb. It missed ricardos malvern home by inches. We are lucky. We are really lucky. It fell that way. Reporter a mile away a tree splintering in half crashing into an apartment complex luckily no one was hurt. Already on the street from previous calls from the storm but we were here really quick. When the storm started coming up, i noticed outside i looked outside the, um, dining room window and i just saw these big white sparks like fireworks going on. Reporter fire sparked after gusty winds thrust two powers lines together. Homeowner maryann was worried about storm damage but fire wasnt even on the radar. Just was that little bit that hit the frayed part of the wire coming into the corner of the house. So luckily it was outside, not anything inside, and so were safe. Reporter and that homeowner suffered about a thousand dollars worth of damage to her home. Now with the holiday being tomorrow, Malvern Fire Company says it was already assembled at the firehouse. Lifeguards dont go in the water were not going in the water. I was out there it would be scary. Reporter parents and children are taking note as rip currents more powerful than usual are hitting jersey shore. With the storm coming mark jamison with the Ocean City Beach patrol says the rip currents run further into the ocean making it more dangerous. When theres increased storm surge, theres increased chance of head injury. You might want to go out and ride waves in these shall hoe breaks but with the storm surge theyll break in Shallow Water and well have what we call flash rips where the water comes up and pulls out with a storm surge. He says there are three general ways to spot a rip current. He says youll notice discolored water flowing against the grain of the ocean. You may also see a flat spot with a slick to oily look to it. A section of what looks like white foam is another sipe the water is going out to sea. Youll find them a lot on beaches where theres jetties or pipes. Theres natural manmade structures that cause a little hole. That water naturally exits out through that hole f you go to a beach where theres not a jetty or a pipe it will create a depth inside a sand bar and exit. Last sunday a current swept away a boy in ocean city. They found cory hammonds body this afternoon near the longport bridge.
