Storm battered parts of Broward County. Boats capsized and chairs sent flying right into the water. Chopper 6 otherver one of the hardest hit areas. We have Live Team Coverage tonight with crews across broward and miamidade counties, assessing the damage. Cluding areas where two ef1 tornadoes tched down. Cleanup is well under way across south florida. Nbc 6 is everywhere, from northeast miamidade to miramar. Ari is live in Pompano Beach where a tornado touched down ari . Reporter jawan, that tornado hopscotched arod this area. It touched down right behind me. And across the street over here. Take a look at the Goodyear Blimp hanger, missing the d now and a few other letters. Theres a tree down over here, more importantly, this business here, you cant see it fr this angle, but it now has an unwanted sun roof. Took the roof off. And the rain winddriven rain, ceiling tiles, merchandise everywhere on the floor. Its just a mess. Reporter rrays speed and customs sells auto parts. It may have toinvest in rain gear now. Sun roofs are for cars, right, not buildings . Shops. Reporter store manager ted was a few minutes late for work today, which worked out in his favor. Got tied up in traffic. And you got here and thought what . A bomb went off. Reporter the twister slslmed the warehouses next door. It ripped off the roof. Total disaster for my business. Nothing you can do about it. Nothing at all. Im just i just dont know what to say. We were just lucky nobody was hurt. Reporter how bad has it been for you today . Its been artbreaking to see all this mess. I feel bad for everybody here. Reporter a block away, a stone column, you can see the damage to the buildings, the mess left by the tornado. You cant see how grateful Corolla Santana is to be alive. She was in her car when the storm hit. You decided not to get out of your car . Because i saw the things flying around, you know, and they say this is happening righghnow. And i didnt know what to do. Reporter the workers ran for their lives, jumping into that container for cover. I can tell you, it was terrible. Really scary. Reporter do you feel like god is watching over you this morning . Of course. He always is. Reporter a traumatic morning for a lot of people in south florida affected by those tornadoes. As far as we know, nobody got seriously hurt by them. We are, by the way, about a mile home of the tornadoes. Live in Pompano Beach, nbc 6 news. This monings storm caused an accidents that tied up the morning commute oni95. Its being blamed for a fire in northeast miamidade. Thats where keith jones continues with the update from the National Weather service. Reporter the National Weather service just wrapped up a News Conference about an hour ago. They did confirm two tornadoe the one in Pompano Beach, the one here in northeast miamidade, both ef1 tornadoes. Both of them running for about three miles of swath of destruction. Not a lot of Property Damage here in northeast miamidade. There were cars, there were some Properties Around homes that were an absolute mess. And the cleanup begins of what looks like a war zone. Northeast miamidade hit hard by a now confirmed ef1 tornado. Major mess on i95. A highway sign spanning the southbound lane shearedff into traffic. It caused an accident between the vehicles, and a tractortrailer. The drivers of these vehicles were assessed on scene and released. Reporter just east of 95, the twister moved into north miami beach, where some roads are barely passable. Some not at all. Were marking the key areas. Reporter thats where the city manager felt compelled to personally hit the streets. Im driving around with our public works director, and this looks like the aftermath of a wilma, or a katrina. Except with no notice. Reporter the damage is repetitive. Mostly trees splintered, uprooted, bringing down electric lines. There was hardly any structural damage except for this home on 193rd wch softened the landing of a fallen tree. Sheared off this condo. And buried in there somewhere a now crumpled car. Great business for Tree Services which foded northeast miamidade. Right now, were backed up, at the top of the house. A lot of damage going around. Reporter that tree service said they were inundated with phone calls. They actually had to turn away business. They wont get to folks until at least the end of the week. Well take you inside that twister that hit here in northeast miamidade at 6 00. Keith, thank you. It may have been a rough day on land, but it wasnt a good morning to be out on the water either. Chopper 6 over southehet ft. Lauderdale where a boston whaler was left hanging on a dock pilingngnorth of the lauderdale yacht club. It doesnt appear anyoneas hurt. Theyre going to have to use a crane in order to get that boat back in the water properly. A catamaran flipped over. Another boat partially sank there. Were told that several people were pulled from the water. One was rushed to the hospital. No w wd on a condition this evening. A cell phone video sws a closeup of one of the boats there. Coming up at 6 00, bobby brooks will have more on todays rescue out on the water. Take a live look here at pictures from ft. Lauderdale right now. And talk about the calm after the storm here. Mother nature painting a much different picture tonight. Buttill it stick around or can you expect more storms . South florida chief meteorologist john morales has forecast. The only rain left from this mornings front is down in the florida keys. Its just a few patches of light rain at this hour. Actually i think a lot of this is actually false retutus for the possible exception of this shower here. Generally speaking, things are calming down weatherwise. Return, not tonight. Actually not for the next several days. There are no advisories in effect right now, but we did have several tornado sightings. This is just one tornado. But each one o o these is areas where there was either damage or e tornado was sighted, and were talking about the one in northern Miamidade County. That started, if i step out of the way here, just to the east of sunlife stadium. In the Miami Gardens neighborhood or so, moving towards the eastnortheast, eventually crossing i95, ending up not far from afterenventura. The one near Lighthouse Point you can see moving from west to east and causing damage there in the part of Broward County. Again, things are expected to calm down now, after the front moves through. Now to video to todays storm, it shows how much punch you can see the strong winds tearing through a miramar neighborhood. Thats where we have a closer look at the damage it left marisa . Reporter jackie, well get to more of thh incredible Surveillance Video in just a moment, but check this t. Portions of this fence just detroyed. These piles here actually had to be fished out of the neighbors pool, if you can believe it. The people who live here, im told theyre out of town. They have no idea the damage theyre going to come home to. It only lasted a matter of seconds. But that was enough for wild winds to tear thugh the neighbor in miramar, leaving a mess behind. This Surveillance Video shows how easily palm tre were ripped apart and tossed around. At that very moment, some residents were stuck inside their cars. I wasnt sure whether i should run back in, or continue and i stopped just halfway there, and i continued. When i got to the corner, i noticed all the falling trees by what they heard and how they protected themselves. It sounded like a big Freight Train coming through. Basically i got her up, stuck her inside the closet that has no windows, on the first floor. It was just unding. Reporter trees and fences littered the streets. Some sawed in half. Cleanup crews worked fast to clear the roads. The fence came down, the trampoline came down. All the furniture was in the pool. The neighbors gate was in his ol. Reporter the worst of the damage was tiles torn off of a roof, and then smashed a truck windshield. Thankfully it was minimal and no one was hurt. The National Weather service hasnt said if a tornado came through here in miramar. That is surprising a l l of neighbors who didnt think they would see this much damage, butut theyre just happy it wasnt any worse. People posted about the crazy south Florida Weather and their lonon rainy morning commutes. Now that the worst is out of the way, it is time to get things cleaned up. The common theme today, trees down, and Everything Else went airborne. They uprooted large trunks and smashed eded branches in half. In some areas, theyre now perched on bushes. Fences and even power lines. Were taking a look at photos posted to twitter by rescue crews around the region. Theyre hong you will be careful as you pick up the stay away from the debris the roads, and keeping a lookout for downed lines. A lot of agencies are posting important phone numbers if you need help tonight. Heres a look at all the videos and photos, and wow, they posted a lot online today. And this morning. Florida power and light workers are making their way around to restore electricity, according to the companys websbste about 2,400 customers in Broward County and 400 in miamidade are still without power. Down from early thi morning when winds and rain affected as many as 54,000 homes and businesses. The heat get a backup named brian robertson. This is basically a salary dunk. Birdman wawat playing very much but he still will be missed by heat fans, thats for sure. Bosh is back on blood thinners for a clot in his leg. Thats according to the associated press. Bosh started taking the new medication, hoping he can return to the court this season. It was just a year ago, though, that bosh missed the final 30 games 6 the year because of blood clots and started in his leg and moved to his lungs. After that diagnosis, bosh was placed on blood thinners and advised to avoid any fiscal contact. No word yet from the heat. Announcer now, first alert weather with chief meteorologist john morales, south floridas most accurate forest. Things calming down right now in south florida after the morning storms. Right now, the diplomat resort and spa cam across Hollywood Beach looks a lo calmer than it did actually at this hour yesterday when we had the strong onshore flow. Weve got a front approaching. Winds are expected to shift direction, and theyre no longer coming from the atlantic. Not much in the way of precipitation left. I think a lot of this in the keys is actually false return. In other words, not really rain. But nevertheless, the rain is moving away tonight. And things are going to calm down by tomorrow. Numerous reports of Severe Weather across south florida today. Yes, the tornadoes and Lighthouse Point toward Pompano Beach and northeastern reports, and wind damage reports, and hail reports arere just numerous. And theyre especially concentrated in southern broward, in northern Miamidade County. Southern Miamidade County did not see near as ch as the system came through. No doubt, folks, this was a bigtime surprise for every meteorologist here in south florida. Nobodydyxpected this line of thunderstorms to be as potent as it was as it moved through our area. A lot of the energy wa expected to be off to the north. So that the southern end of the front wouldnt be as active, but boy was it ever. And we had big problemsith the winds today. As a matter of fact, this is just sampling the winds at the local airports. And just looking at those, you can see a 54ileperhour wind gust at ft. Lauderdale. But keep in mind, there were several locations with winds over 60 Miles Per Hour today in gus. And thats what generated all spots, and that caused, of course, the power to be cut off. And also some damage to several the area. Right now, temperatures are in the 70s for us. Down to 69 degrees in naples. Thats a sign of things to come. Tonight. And as we head into tomorrow. By the way,hese two tornadoes today, two ef1s, we addhat to the Coconut Creek tornado that was an ef1, and ef0 tornado. Four tornadoes since january in this pattern thats affecting us. Cold front moves through this evening. Long rainfree stretch, that indeed begins tonight. Heres the frontal position just about to pass us. All the rain was way ahead of the front. Thats why its not cool yet. The front has taken its time toto reach here. It is, again, staing to move away and things will calm down. The next seven days, no rain chance for the next six, and next week. Our temperatures are going to be quite comfortable. Highs will be in the 70s. Lows, momoly in the 60s, with one exception, wednesday night into thursday morning into the upper 50s. Again, sun will prevail. A little bit breezy at times. Head into the wee welcome back. The earlymorning storm a surprise to a lot o o people. The powerful winds peeled the roof off of this house in davy. Look at that. In ft. Lauderdale beach, also feeling the brunt of these storms. Bea chairs were ripped apart, some now littering the water. Thank you for joining us. The National Weather Service Confirms two tornadoes touched down in south florida today. One of them roared through Pompano Beach. Chopper 6 giving this view over a horse ranch that was battered mother nature. We go live to steve litz on the ground with a closer look at reporter hi, trina. It was an ef1 that rolled through here. Those winds churned between 86 to 110 miles an hour. Look at the damage done out here. That horse trailer right there flipped on its side. Move over, that one was damaged. And the third one over there, flipped over on its side as well. This is the sand and spurs equestrian center, its a city park here in Pompano Beach. There are about 50 horses that are housed here. And when the storm rolled through here just after 7 00 tonight, it scared the people, scared the horses and did a whole lot of damage. Horses werent just spooked during this mornings storms. Side while running into his stable. Hes standing and eati which is a good sign. Well stitch him up. Hes a tough horse. Hell be all right.
