Tony and tucker the segment where tucker and i put our bigur Heads Together to answer the most pressing questions weather related or otherwise. Todays question which i dontii have a copy of comes from tonya staten. She says i was watching the t Weather Channel and they were talking about mamathsi clouds in the sectio texas and they look e balloons in the sky, has maryland ever gotten those types of clouds. We hear of cirrus,. Cirr lets us show you a picture of what she is talking about. These are amazing clouds, and real simple answer, yes, we do occasionally get these, i knowth in maryland and virginia, and washington. On one or twoo occasions in the past summer. Did you. St you got to be looking for them. Isnt that remarkable. I havent seen that in in person. Not that i recall, no, actually, i did. Ilets mention that these tye of clouds are extremely rare. You got to be keene to the sky,k what happens is its a fascinating process. Proce most often, most frequently seey in severe weather, and in big b thunderstorms that we get in the summertime. Fall,nt see these in the and you wont the see these in the winter. During the summertime is when you will see these kind of cloud patterns. What happens is the air gets lifted. We talked and learned in science class how the thunderstorms thun work, and how the air is lifted with down draft and the air is s lifted highest into the sky and it cansky no longer be lifted, trying to move the process andpr what happensoc is moisture gets lifted into the top of the atmosphere. It spreads out on top of thee traitstraights fier, straights fe seeing is cold air intrusion, cold air is punching through thh bottom the clouds and causing the pockets that you see. These type of cloud patterns are most often seen in and aroundar severe weather. You are not going to see them unless the cloud top is very high in the atmosphere. It usually drives big storms. Only time i recall seeing them in person i was out in Oklahoma City during those tornadoes in 1999, may 1999. Much more common in the midwest than around here because you need to the cloud tops. If you didnt know what it was, and you steppedf outside, and you saw some of that, you y would think what is happening because we are used to seeingse the Independence Day the clouds coming in. Theres a misconception that if you see thesemi clouds a a tornado is on way. It doesnt necessarily mean that there could be a tornado. Sometimes they are on the back e end of a thunderstorm. They dont necessarily mean me anything om on news is coming co but they are usually associated with them. When i saw them the tornado had already come in. Mamothis, mom this, it usually means mmeans ma mary cloud, it s flat tin word mama. Of it is. I know you do. I know youre not. They are most provocative. If you have a question youu want answered go to myfoxdc. Com and click on the weather tab. He allr right, students straighten up. Whatever. Hi, julie wright. Wrig im just telling you. Yo dont act.
