calling in some pretty big guns to help save that treaty. the obama administration plans to outline the reasons why the treaty is in the national interest. nancy pelosi will shift from house speaker to minority leader in january and republicans picked john boehner to be the next speaker of the house in congress. and virginia congressman virginia cantor will be the majority leader. maryland's on this morning. the skies will be mixed. it will be partly sunny but with clouds filtering in so that is why we call it partly sunny. temperatures will be cool in the the mid-40s but those morning hours. there is an area of low pressure off to the west that is producing rain. that is pushing eastward. now, it will begin falling apart. most of that should break up by the time it gets to our mountains out to the west. but some of those showers and sprinkles could make their way in here so tucker and i believe there is a possibility of a lonely sprinkle or shower or two here and there went before a senate committee to plain why body scanners and personal patdowns are a necessary evil. he says despite the public uproar, the policy will not be changed. >> there has got to be a way, however, for a privacy concern to be addressed because it is legitimate. >> maybe we are at i point here where this is not a vocal minority -- at a point here where this is not a vocal minority. people just think you have overstepped. >> we are talking about protecting the american people. >> there is a price we pay for that and that is sometimes an uncomfortable price for the nation's public. >> officials introduced the new screening measures after tests showed patdowns were not enough. big changes could be coming to d.c.'s welfare system. right now, awe family on public assistance receives on average $370 a month. two d.c. council members want to set a limit for how long a family can receive bins. they say people should not be allowed to stay to public assistance longer than open here. farragut north will be open today. all of this was blamed on some work being done apparently just across the street here. they are building a median between k and l on connecticut avenue and they are saying that is possibly it looks like what knocked that concrete down yesterday. but farragut north remained open yesterday for nearly five hours as officials tried to figure out how the struck something which struck something and you have a piece of concrete fall. >> reporter: now, in the meantime, this happened yesterday as a new safety report about metro had come out from the local group saying that they needed to actually have term limits they were recommending on the metro board and also the chairman to try to get people to move through there. they were talking about that being an issue. that is something that would have to be approved by maryland, virginia, d.c. and congress. but again, what everybody needs to know this morning is that farragut north metro stop is open for business as usual. live here at farragut north, sarah simmons. the jury in the chandra levy trial will continue to deliberate today. there is new evidence in the case but the judge ruled that the jury won't see it. ingmar guandique's fellow prisoner is the prosecution's only witness. in 2008, he wrote a letter from prison saying that he knew guandique killed levy and wanted to help investigators. it was written after he heard guandique would be arrested to levy's death. the letter was discussed during the trial but never introduced into evidence. paul wagner has been blogging anything, call montgomery county police. another police officer caught up in the corruption probe in prince george's county will be in court today. sinisa simic was accused of smuggling. he was in prison and his wife is under house arrest. no other relatives have announced they are coming for that ceremony in december. natural gas is now being blamed for that deadly mine explosion in april. the owners of the west virginia mine say the explosion was not cause the by methane as first thought. investigators for massey energy say the upper big branch mine was inundated with natural gas at the time of the explosion. twenty-nine miners were killed in that accident. watch here as a couple is shopping for wedding rings at a jewelry store in florida and main walk in, pulls out a gun and fills his backpack with $400,000 worth of jewelry, most of it gold and then just walks out. police believe the robber was an amateur because he didn't even try to disguise himself. terrifying moments winds go, yesterday, quite the blustery day across the region. not so this morning. wind three miles per hour in the district. six in baltimore. a big change from where we were yesterday during the course of the day. that is the way it will be today. lower or diminished winds through the region. sad light radar picture for the area, we've got mostly clear skies. things look pretty good but there are some clouds out to the west. some of those are going to felt are through the region so we'll go with partly sunny skies today as opposed to mostly sunny because we do think the sky will feature some cloud cover. this area of low pressure off to the west is producing a pretty good amount of rain but you can see if you look closely some of that rain diminishing as it tracks eastward. diminishing in intensity and in terms of the amount, we think that will difficult minute issue as it gets closer. i would not rule out a shower or two making its way into our viewing area during the
